I have a amd64 200 with 1GB RAM and 80 GB HD running xp home edition sp2. around may, sp3 tried to install a number of times but failed. After reading the info about how to install sp3, I did so and it completed!
The system worked for about 2 hours and then a 'MACHINE_EXCEPTION' error. I uninstalled sp3 and no more machine_exception errors! now, the anti-virus software started finding infections in windows,windowssystem32, even 'System Volume Information'

I'm in a bit of a pickle, I was installing some beta drivers from nvidia on my gaming desktop just for fun, but when I restarted the computer can't run for more then 3 minutes until it crashes, so I need to go back and reverse the drivers i installed or get rid of them. The dilemma here is that I'm not exactly sure what I need to do, nor can I BOOT INTO SAFE MODE, which has been an issue for me for about a year now. Whenever I begin to login in safe mode the computer abruptly restarts before it even reaches the desktop
well, I managed to screw up my winxp reinstall in a big way. I'm very upset over it since its my sis-in-laws computer. Before, she could not access the internet, but at least she could boot up WinXP and play games, access her email and all of her programs on the desktop...now...nothing but the following popup error message:Error: One of the files containing the system registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful then the popup disappears and sends me to a blue screen (long) message starting with this.
I just restored my computer to an earlier date and know stuff is worse then it was before now my restore point comes up blank can't even get my help and support to come up what did I do? how can I fix this problem?
When I booted up my computer this morning, Windows loaded, I signed in, and then it took nearly an hour and a half to get the program icons to come up on the desktop. When I try to open one, it can take upwards of 20 minutes to do so, then response within the program is no better. It seems like all the resources are under use, but no one can see what's bogging it down.
Hi, my PC is very sensitive when left idle it takes about 5 minutes just to changes web pages.Sometimes it is running well, sometimes it is really slow. I am using windows XP and have firewall and AVG.
I recently found out through my last windows upgrade that I might be using a counterfeit copy of windows. I wasn't aware of this like I'm sure many, so I read where I could purchase for 149.00 a windows upgrade tool and make my windows XP GENUINE. On line I purchased the upgrade tool. I gave microsoft 149.00 and two days later an email came with product key and took me to a sight to run software to check to see if windows was intact. It ran flawlessly and checked my windows xp and said it was complete. Congraltions menu. After a reboot a message came up that I must activate this windows program. I tried to activate it by online, following instructions, but error said my product key wasn't valid. I then called and spoke with three different activation techs that were unable to help and said I needed the CD.
testing MS's beta of Windows Onecare I installed it about 5 days ago and first impressions have been very favorable. It includes a firewall, anti-virus app, backup & restore feature, scheduled tune-up (defrag, etc) automatic updates. Nice for a beta software, no glitches yet and I have tested the backup/restore feature using dvd-rw media. The firewall is inbound / outbound detection unlike XP's built-in. You do have to disable / remove any existing firewall / anti-virus before installation. This might be a subscription service after beta, but may well be worth it, especially for new / in-experienced PC users. But anyone can benefit from the many features, built-in backup to CD / DVD
I installed IE 7 beta 2 this morning and afterward I went to Help Center to check my restore points. When I click on the "Undo changes to your computer with SYSTEM RESTORE", on the right-hand side of Help Center nothing happens.I can get at my restore points using "Performance and Maintenance" in the left side of the Help Center and using the Restore Wizard. They look valid.I can also create a new restore point from here. I have a very clean system and do manual checkpoints almost daily. I resized the restore points cache; turned restore off and on and booted in safe mode only to get the same results.By the way, I have had no problems with IE 7 or any other programs since installing IE 7.
I was a SP2 beta tester(wondering if you were as well?) and didn't upgrade to the official RTM version. My own personal opinion is that the license for the beta timed out and is now throwing a hissy.I can get the comp to boot up into safe mode just fine (which is why I am positive it's not hardware related) so auto update either dl'd something last night and it's conflicting or it's the sp2 beta license problem.
I've been using MS Anti-Spyware Beta 1 for several weeks. Recently, when trying to update, the program says it downloads and installs updates but when I check for future updates the same one supposedly already downloaded and installed shows up again. For example, I got to definitions 5729, but 5733 was but wasn't installed several times; and then it was 5735 the same. So I uninstalled the program and downloaded and reinstalled it. Now I have definitions 5725 and have tried without success to download and install 5735 several times. Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be? I also have Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Bazooka, and Spyware Blaster.
Has anyone managed to activate Vista Beta 1 with any crack? I triedabout 3 different cracks in safe mode (since the 30 days period wasexpired), and none of them worked. Has anyone succeeded in cracking Vista's WPA thing?
i'm new on this forum but i've been reading the posts around for a while.. right now i need help with my computer. i installed windows xp pro sp2 beta (5.1, build 2600) and now i need to remove this sp2 cuz it's screwing up my directx... i cant install directx 9.0c as the installation just goes extremely quickly and nothing actually was installed... after hours of searching i concluded that it was the beta version of sp2 that was causing the problems. the sp2 was slipstreamed (i think) with xp on the disc so i cant uninstall it using add/remove programs, i cant find C:WINDOWS$NTServicepackUninstall$ or anything like that, and i after removeing CSDVersion in HKLMSoftwareWindows NTCurrent Version, it was just backed up.
I would like to install Internet Explorer 7 beta 2, and it does not work. So I did what they said in troubleshooting (use regmon to find a key that says "access denied" So I did that and found that HKCR/mailto is the problem. So I go into the registry and when I click on it I get an a message saying there was an error opening the key. I try change the permissions, and again I get an error message. Then I even try to delete it (I have a copy from another system to install) and again I get an error message. What can I do to fix this problem?
Last week I posted a question to this forum regarding the trouble I was having uninstalling Explorer Beta 2 (you can't install Beta 3 until you UNINSTALL beta 2). I got some very good suggestions -- system restore, trying REinstalling beta 2, etc. but none of them worked. Beta 2 won't reinstall unless you uninstall, restoring back to earlier times resurrected other demons and glitches I had solved, etc. What I believed happened is part of my overzealous file maintenance. I usually delete all those windows update Uninstall files that clutter up the Windows directory. Who knew that one of them was probably the uninstall file for Explorer Beta 2?
I am running the public beta 2 of Windows Vista x86 (32-bit version) on my PC--dual-booting with Windows XP SP2-- and I can't get my blasted Internet to work with it. Unfortunately, I haven't any way of running ethernet cable from my PC to the router--and so I need my wireless to work. The adapter is USB--a D-Link DWL-G120 wuireless card. It works fine as I'm using it now in XP SP2. My PC specs are listed in my sig.Anyone know of a driver that will work or any way to make this thing work with the Vista Beta 2 x86 build (public release)? I don't care if it only lets me use 802.11b--I just want a frikin driver that will allow me to test Vista's IE7 and such.
If you decide to uninstall IE 8 Beta 1 and revert back to IE 7, you will likely discover that its entry in the Add/Remove Programs list does not offer an uninstall option, especially if you installed the XP SP3 upgrade afterwards. This is how to uninstall it: Navigate to the C:WINDOWSIE8SPUNINST folder and then open it to expose its list of files. Double-click the SPUNINST.EXE file to start the uninstall process. Ignore the warning that uninstalling it may cause some of your installed programs not to work. Restart your computer when prompted to. When you start IE 7 for the first time, follow the directions to select your personal settings. Run a scan at the Windows Updates site.
I decided to Delete IE8 Beta yesterday but after it caused probs for my XP operating system I looked up on here how to revert back to IE7 (I don't have SP3 DL'd so it seemed like an easy fix). But now everytime I try to open IE it starts to load and then just disapears (No error message or anything) I ran ad-aware and AVG and found nothing so I don't think its a malware problem. But I went ahead and ran HJT in case you guys can tell something by looking at it. I think I royally messed up this time & I just hope someone can help me out I'm using Mozilla right now but hate that I cannot copy/paste so I really need IE back.
I uninstalled Internet Explorer 7 Beta and now when I log on all I get is the desktop picture and an error message saying Explorer.EXE cannot find normaliz.dll reinstalling will correct the problemHowever I have no way of installing the dll because I can only log on in Safe Mode with command Prompt.
I'm not sure this is the right place for this.I had the Vista Beta (I don't remember if it was 1 or 2). I then set my pc to boot into XP by default as I didn't like Vista.Everything was fine until yesterday. Now when I boot into XP Explorer and about 2/3 of my services don't load. I can start them manually just fine, but they no longer auto run.
I was running a dual boot of windows XP and Ubuntu Linux prior to installing Vista beta 2. Now, after upgrading windows XP to vista beta 2 i no longer have the boot screen that allows me to chose between my linux boot and my vista. Any way i can get back into linux? I did not make a boot disc for linux.
I install Server 2003 Standard SP1 downloaded and installed on a PII 400, 256Mb RAM with IIS, ASP.Net 2.0, SQL server 2000 SP4, Mysql 5, and PHP5, and all without a single hitch...too good to be true. I went ahead and tried on what will be my server PIII600, 512 MB RAM, First try, Server 2003 couldn't find a file when installing, retried and it worked. Downloaded SP1 and when I was extracting it said "file is corrupt", downloaded 4 more times with same result. reformatted and reinstalled 5 more times and cannot get past "file is corrupt" on SP1 and sometimes extracting the .Net 2.0 installer got the same error. I swap all hardware with PC from first try (except RAM, Mobo, CPU, CDROM) with no change. Win98 and XP installed fine on the second PC just can't get server 2003
I recently installed xp for the first time after replacing motherboard and CPU.I skipped setup because I didn't know what I was doing. Now I can't boot up (cold or warm) without using the original disk. Can I just go into setup and change boot settings without re-installing.Is there anything else I should know before I attempt to fix this problem? I am tired of using the disk every time I update something or install new program.
Does anyone know when the 64 bit version of XP will be coming out? I know there is a beta test version floating around, but I was wondering about an official release.
