I'm a regular FF user, but lately just for kicks I have been using IE. Now for some reason, no matter what I set my home page to(blank, default, Google.com), And all I see is a blank blue page, with a title bar of "Customize Your Settings".

Now I got a problem that I can't not set homepage in it. when I try the input a http address in homepage setting box, it will be come back to about blank status. I have try to edit windows registry to solve the problem, but I don't know which entry I should edit it.I only know that under Current user software Microsoft internet explorer main home page to set a new homepage entry. But it doesn't work after.I close the registry editor. It seems I cann't change homepage setting. Can someone can tell me in which location I should modify the registry key so that I can set homepage.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing around with IE one day and I found out that you can override any homepage setting in Internet Options. If you have spyware, or come accross it frequently, then this is a very good tweak for you. 1. Right-click on the IE icon on your desktop.
2. Select Properties3. Now in the "Target" box you will see "C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIEXPLORE.EXE" Now by adding the url of the site to the end of this it overrides any Homepage setting in internet options. ex: "C:Program FilesInternet xplorerIEXPLORE.EXE" www.sdgamerz.tk Editor's note: This works only with a custom shortcut to Internet Explorer not the default one that opens Internet Options when you choose "properties".
I just bout a new IBM/Lenovo X40. It has winxp pro and internet explorer 6.0. The default homepage is msn.com. Everytime I change it to something else it will change right back to msn.com when I reboot.

How can I stop this happening? Also, I am about to change from dial up (yep a bit slow) to broadband. Is it best to remove my old dial up programme? It also came with basic Norton security but I looked in Add/Remove progs to uninstall but can't find it anywhere?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to check "my account" on a webpage it doesn't let me navigate, it boots me out back to the sign in page. I can sign in and see the welcome page (it says "Welcome and my name") but when I try to go to another page in the site (for example "my account") it won't let me go. Also my internet homepage is Yahoo, when I refresh or open to the homepage Yahoo never loads ... I have to click "GO" to get the page to load. Are these two problems related somehow? Anyone?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use Juno on my HP it stops responding while loading its homepage. I can end the program now. Click on Internet Explorer and continue in the Internet. But then come the problem. About a half hour after I close the Internet Explorer. My machine freezes. I pull the plug plug it back in and it boots up like nothing happens. I have a dual boot on this machine. Just put in Linspire about two weeks ago because of this
problem. Juno works fine under Linspire. So I know it is not Juno nor HP so it has to be with Windows XP.
I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. View 2 Replies View RelatedHi, I am having a weird problem. I cannot change what programs I use by defualt to open windows files. It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.

I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.

Currently they are Internet Explorer or Microsoft Word. When I click on RUN another dialog box open asking me if I want to run Windows Vista SE Build. If I click on RUN I return to the OPEN WITH dialog box and starts the cycle over again. When I tried to run PROGRAM UPDATES in the CONTROL PANEL, I got a message about not being able to find RUNDLL32.EXE. Thinking I had a corrupted file, I copied a good RUNDLL32.EXE from my primary machine. No change after copying the file.I've run Norton AV and found no viruses. Interesting in that running Norton's did not initiate the OPEN WITH dialog box.
