i took my computer to pc world to have a new driver fitted and now when i click on internet icon to connect it connects up ok but wont open my home page. it just stays on my desk top. i have to double click on the icon again to open it up. not a big problem but i just want it back to how it was.

I'm a regular FF user, but lately just for kicks I have been using IE. Now for some reason, no matter what I set my home page to(blank, default, Google.com), And all I see is a blank blue page, with a title bar of "Customize Your Settings".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm asking this advice for my wife's cousin. She just got a computer and is a real novice when it comes to using it. The problem she is having is when she launches an application, the desktop wallpaper image still stays displayed over the application screen. For example, when she launches Internet Explorer her home page of Google.com comes up but the background is not a plain white background but is the wallpaper image. The same thing occurs when she launches Microsoft Word. The document background is not a white page but is the wallpaper image. As far as I know the same thing happens for any application she launches. Unfortunately for me the computer with the problem is 200 miles away from where I live so I can't personally try to resolve this problem.

I tried to bring up task manager and alt - F4 but still nothing happens. It just stays at my desktop. Everything else is working but it seems i cant shutdown or restart.

Non shortcuts such as my computer or outlook express open normally. I have recreated all shortcuts and the new shortcuts still won't open. I have tried the obvious of restarting the computer and I have run my antivirus programs (symantec,spy bot and adaware) w/o anything being found. Can any one give me any ideas of what may fix this issue?

Now I got a problem that I can't not set homepage in it. when I try the input a http address in homepage setting box, it will be come back to about blank status. I have try to edit windows registry to solve the problem, but I don't know which entry I should edit it.I only know that under Current user software Microsoft internet explorer main home page to set a new homepage entry. But it doesn't work after.I close the registry editor. It seems I cann't change homepage setting. View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing around with IE one day and I found out that you can override any homepage setting in Internet Options. If you have spyware, or come accross it frequently, then this is a very good tweak for you. 1. Right-click on the IE icon on your desktop.
2. Select Properties3. Now in the "Target" box you will see "C:Program FilesInternet ExplorerIEXPLORE.EXE" Now by adding the url of the site to the end of this it overrides any Homepage setting in internet options. ex: "C:Program FilesInternet xplorerIEXPLORE.EXE" www.sdgamerz.tk Editor's note: This works only with a custom shortcut to Internet Explorer not the default one that opens Internet Options when you choose "properties".
I just bout a new IBM/Lenovo X40. It has winxp pro and internet explorer 6.0. The default homepage is msn.com. Everytime I change it to something else it will change right back to msn.com when I reboot.

How can I stop this happening? Also, I am about to change from dial up (yep a bit slow) to broadband. Is it best to remove my old dial up programme? I can sign in and see the welcome page (it says "Welcome and my name") but when I try to go to another page in the site (for example "my account") it won't let me go. Also my internet homepage is Yahoo, when I refresh or open to the homepage Yahoo never loads ... I have to click "GO" to get the page to load. Are these two problems related somehow? Anyone?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use Juno on my HP it stops responding while loading its homepage. I can end the program now. Click on Internet Explorer and continue in the Internet. But then come the problem. About a half hour after I close the Internet Explorer. My machine freezes. I pull the plug plug it back in and it boots up like nothing happens. I have a dual boot on this machine. Just put in Linspire about two weeks ago because of this
problem. Juno works fine under Linspire. So I know it is not Juno nor HP so it has to be with Windows XP.
I use "Update Checker" and cannot open it. I've checked start up and it checked there. I right clicked it to open and it still does not. How can I get to to open. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

When I left click some icons, the "search" window opens instead of the program I wish to open.When I right click these same icons, the menu box opens that gives me choices ( open, explore, send to, copy etc) as it should However, the top selection in the drop down box (highlighted) is "search" instead of "open".As a routine now, I must right click and icon, choose "open" from the drop down box, and go about my business. How did "search" get into the box to begin with, why are only some of the icons infected, how do I get rid of it.I just installed my new "anti everything" renewal for 2005 (Norton) and it saw nothing, (The Norton icon also has this problem) I've tried freeby spyware remover etc.. nothing. I deleted the infected icons, went back into explorer and created new shortcuts.

So when I restarted my computer, everything was fine until I got to the loading screen (screen with the windows logo and the loading blue bar). So when I start up computer, it stays at Window XP welcome screen, the bar keeps moving continuously, but it goes nowhere. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it comes with a recovery disc, but after it finish loading the disc, nothing happens but black screen and a mouse pointer. I also tried to reinstall everything from that recovery disc but can't.(also tried to hold down C key when laptop is powering up to reformat).
