I posted this on October 19th, but had no replies, so I'll try again. When I click on a midi link, WMP will open then freezes. CPU usage for WMP at 99%. Have to close WMP with task manager. If I go to a page with an embedded midi file, the page will freeze, no sound and cpu usage at 99% for Internet Explorer. This does not occur using Firefox only with Internet Explorer. As far a WMP, this was occurring with WMP 10, a friend suggested that I should upgrade to version 11. No change.
I use Windows XP Professional with SP2 and Outlook Express 6, the free AVG 7.5.524, and Comodo Firewall Pro ver. 2.4.18.184. Ocassionally, I will get an email from my brother with "suppose to be" embedded images except they don't show as embedded images, they are only attachments. But, he sends the same email to my sister and she sees the pictures in the email as they are suppose to be. All three of us use the same internet provider and my sister and I both use Outlook Express 6 and AVG 7.5.524. Now comes the crazy part: I get emails with embedded images from other people and they show in the email just fine. I don't have to open the attachments to view the pictures on anyone's email except his and I'm the only one that has to do this. I don't see the Red X's, it's just that the pictures aren't embedded as they should be. It's just a few lines of text and then some spaces and then more lines of text.
In fact, by looking at it, you can't tell where the pictures are suppose to be. If I want to see the pictures, I have to open each attachment and without pictures showing at the time of reading, some emails don't make sense especially the ones that have a lot of pictures and you can't tell which one goes where. If this was a problem with all of my email, I would think that it is my settings but it's only the ones that he sends. Also, if my sister received it like I do, then I would think the problem is on his end but as I stated earlier, her's works fine. Plus, it's not just one email. It's all that he sends with embedded pictures. I've checked my settings in Outlook Express and everything is as it should be. I've uninstalled Outlook Express and reinstalled but still I have the same problem. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this?
I clicked on a link within a webpage and picked something about saving it to my desktop; Windows asked if I wanted it available offline and I stupidly said yes.Now I have an odd-sized webpage-like thing embedded in my wallpaper and can't seem to get rid of it. I've used the search function with Windows and set it to look in hidden files and folders. I found and deleted three copies of the document through Seach, including one in my trash bin and still the offending item won't go away. Changing my wallpaper doesn't work either.
I installed a fresh copy of WIN2000 on my IBM Thinkpad A21m but I am having a problem setting up a device in Device Mangager. I have no idea what is going on.
When i reboot the laptop it prompts me that it has found a new piece of hardware and it wants me to install the driver for it. The problem is that I have no idea what device it is since all the devices that should be working are working - so i don't know what to do. The clues that I have noticed that might help:
- the laptop takes a LOOOONG time to boot up (3 or 4 mins), and is sort of sluggish in operation (compared to how it ran when i bought it)
- my internet connection is super slow ( I have a DSL router that serves 3 computers incl. mine, the other two have XP and everythign runs smooth)
- the unknown device says it is located on the the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller"
Would any one know what Device this "Unknown Device" is??? I just need to know so i can install the driver so my system can run properly.
I'm trying to run a game program and I'm getting the error message saying, " The Midi driver for your sound card cannot be found. This program requires a Midi driver to be properly installed on your system. Please read your sound card's documentation to install the appropriate sound drivers."My sound card is working normally. The sound on my computer works.
I'm really at a loss for words. For some odd reason, every now and again, I hear what sounds like the first second of the Linkin Park song Crawling. No idea where it's coming from. All of my mp3 players could be running or not and I've heard it. I've checked to make sure that if I had any browsers open, that there wasn't any kind of annoying flash advertisement doing it. I've updated my AVG Anti-Virus and ran that as well as AVG-Anti Spyware but I still hear the midi.
I have a Windows XP with a 2.66 Pentium 4 and 786 MB of RAM. I am working on a slideshow using PowerPoint and I would like to insert some sounds. The MIDI Sequence files will appear to play but no sound will come.
For two months I have been trying to connect my (simple) "Midiplus 61" piano keyboard to my Acer "Travelmate 4150" laptop (under Win XP Home) using one of its USB ports, so as to drive a music program. The keyboard produces a MIDI stream. I must have downloaded 250 Mbytes of so called "USB-MIDI Drivers", some from Acer, some from MSoft, many from individuals who profess to know the solution. Now, in desperation I seek help from my CNET colleagues,I must add that the keyboard works fine when driving through Win 98 on an old machine and the laptop produces excellent Steinway piano sound when running, say, a "Pianoteq" demonstration file.
I have a couple thousand midi files broken into smaller folders. I click one to play with Media Player or there was a link that said PLAY ALL. That doesn't appear anymore and I have to keep selecting tunes each time one ends. I looked in the window drop downs but can't find how to bring back PLAY ALL.
I was using my comp yesterday and the right & left click functions of the mouse stopped working in IE. They worked fine on the task bar. I rebooted and it took almost 15 minutes to come back up. CPU usage is at 100% all the time. Needless to say it barely runs it's so slow but everything seems to work. I rebooted into safe mode and cpu usage is normal but I can't seem to find the hang. I also ran msconfig and disabled all the startup items and service items, XP seems to start. things occur normally up to the splash screen, but just after that is where it hangs.
I have an HP d530c system running Win XP SP2 which will hang 8 times out of 10 when a CD or DVD is inserted. Running DVD and CD writers. Have changed all drives/cables/DMA settings. If autorun is disabled in registry system works fine.
Computer gets hang after 20 second.sometimes it gets hanged when computer checks that NV Ram on the very first screen sometime it gets hang on BIOS[blue screen]means i cannot go to the main Deskpot. I am using Windows Xp SP1.
After doing a fdisk and repartioning my hard drive I put in the WIN XP CD to reinstall the OS. It goes to the blue screen that says WINDOWS SETUP. On the bottom task bar it says Windows is loading setup. It's not loading at all. It hangs there and I have to reboot and it does it again. I havae changed hard drives and memory sticks and the same problem.
I have problem that can make me crazy. my computer always hang up.i dont what to do know..i traying defrag and scandisk my partition but this problem dont solve.
I've been racking my brain on this issue for months with no success. So I have a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor running on a Gigabyte mobo (I can get the model no. if needed) and a BFG GeForce 5500 AGP card. I have 2 Crucial DDR-333 512M sticks and a WD 80GB SATA drive. Now when I run Windows and basic apps(IE, Outlook, Firefox, etc) But when I run a few games like World of Warcraft, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth, etc. Occasionally it will just hang the PC. No error, just looping sound and freeze frame.
I have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550. A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen, sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.) This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It now hangs during this install as well. This computer is currently useless.
I have a HP computer with Windows software and starting yesterday it started to hang up and stall. We have to manually turn the computer off and back on and it takes several minutes before it comes to the main screen. I did a system restore, turned off the screensaver, ran a virus check with Norton 2004, and it is still occuring and has hung up 5 times today. We do not have internet access to this computer, so I do not think there is a virus on it.
Computer seems to freeze and go to a black screen after or before the xp screen, sometimes even when she first turns it on. and lately she says her computers been running slow.

I just bought the Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade With Service Pack 2, and I just got done setting everything up and I just defragged my (C drive. Either at the "welcome" screen or after choosing a profile, it says: "Loading your personalized settings" and this takes about a minute or two, which isn't that bad, but right after it loads that up, my desktop appears, and my icons don't show up until about 5-10 mins, which is very unusual. If I click Start, it hangs up.It doesn't freeze, 'cause I can still move the mouse
On starting up my computer, after the Windows screen with the 'flashing' bar lights up, my computer hangs for about 60 seconds with a blank black screen before my desktop appears. Now the strange part. I've just installed a DVD burner in the slot where I used to have a CD burner. On installation I started up my computer with the cover off, and Windows started immediately - no hang at all. On replacing the cover, the hang is back. Co-incidence? I don't think so. I thought it may have been software related but now have no idea whatsoever.
I do not know what went wrong.Recently my system always hang for no reason.I can't move my mouse and i tried changing another mouse but still didn't work.I run virus and spyware scan with all the available programs and fix registry and system errors with numerous registry cleaning tools. What shall i do to eliminate this problem?I am running on windows XP Pro serv.Pk 2.
"Gateway 834GM, Pent 4 630 processor supporting Hyper Threading Technology. 3ghz, 800 mhz FSB, 2 MB l2 Cache, Intel Graphics Media Accelator 900 Double layer 16x Multi Format DVD+/-RW drive, 1024 MB DDR 250 GB SATA HD, 7200 RPm w/8MB Cache" I don't know if all of that is needed but there you go. Because it is a multimedia computer it has several new programs that I know nothing about. I have gone into regedit to see what is in startup and I have no idea what he needs and what he doesn't.
