After doing a fdisk and repartioning my hard drive I put in the WIN XP CD to reinstall the OS. It goes to the blue screen that says WINDOWS SETUP. On the bottom task bar it says Windows is loading setup. It's not loading at all. It hangs there and I have to reboot and it does it again. I havae changed hard drives and memory sticks and the same problem.

I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.
I started an upgrade for xp pro part way through the install I got a message "WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe" no found I pressed enter then got another message "fake setup call himself instead original "setup.exe" ; setup abort!" now each time I reboot it starts to load xp then gives me the same message then press enter it then reboots.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI mistakenly launched XP Setup and want to know how to stop it from progressing further. I have another XP installed on another virtual disk. Rebooting from there allowed me delete the Setup files. Or so I thought ! The main XP installation however continues to try to launch Setup. Just about whatever I do, it ends in tears. My question is how do I stop XP on this disk from thinking it has to launch Setup? I dont want to reinstall XP, as that will involve a huge amount of work to recreate my environment.

I was using my comp yesterday and the right & left click functions of the mouse stopped working in IE. They worked fine on the task bar. I rebooted and it took almost 15 minutes to come back up. CPU usage is at 100% all the time. Needless to say it barely runs it's so slow but everything seems to work. I rebooted into safe mode and cpu usage is normal but I can't seem to find the hang. I also ran msconfig and disabled all the startup items and service items, XP seems to start. things occur normally up to the splash screen, but just after that is where it hangs.

So I have a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ processor running on a Gigabyte mobo (I can get the model no. if needed) and a BFG GeForce 5500 AGP card. I have 2 Crucial DDR-333 512M sticks and a WD 80GB SATA drive.Now when I run Windows and basic apps(IE, Outlook, Firefox, etc) But when I run a few games like World of Warcraft, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth, etc. Occasionally it will just hang the PC. No error, just looping sound and freeze frame.
I have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550. A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen, sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.)
This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It now hangs during this install as well. This computer is currently useless.

We have to manually turn the computer off and back on and it takes several minutes before it comes to the main screen. I did a system restore, turned off the screensaver, ran a virus check with Norton 2004, and it is still occuring and has hung up 5 times today. We do not have internet access to this computer, so I do not think there is a virus on it.

The system starts again without difficulty.The Windows XP Event Viewer shows no system errors. In the application window it simply shows Application Hang with the Event 1001/1002 combination. I got frustrated after many attempts and decided to do a clean install (on the new H.D.). Windows setup perfectly... Today I tried to boot up with the old hd into windows to backup some quicken files I needed and windows wont boot... it will just hang at the welcome screen and stay there... Sometimes when I Alt-tab I see 2 processes 1 (Wndows Logon) 2 (windows welcome screen)... but that's it... I've tried everything but doing a repair install, since I'm afraid about getting stuck in the repair install (it has happened to me twice).

I have reinstalled windows xp and all drivers and got everything working. It is working better than ever ,as my old harddrive was sluggish for some time before it died. But now i am unable to play any 3d games. They boot up fine ,but whenever anything is rendererd in 3d it hangs at random intervals for a good 10-15 seconds then continues for a few seconds and hangs again. I have tried half life 2, swat 4 and ceaser 4. Swat 4 even hangs in the menu screen.

Have to close WMP with task manager.If I go to a page with an embedded midi file, the page will freeze, no sound and cpu usage at 99% for Internet Explorer.This does not occur using Firefox only with Internet Explorer.As far a WMP, this was occurring with WMP 10, a friend suggested that I should upgrade to version 11. No change.
