Dec 31, 2004Computer seems to freeze and go to a black screen after or before the xp screen, sometimes even when she first turns it on. and lately she says her computers been running slow.

The hang/freeze would last only a few seconds to start with and go back to normal working behaviour but the hangs will extend to minutes then to a complete freeze. I use dial-up and noticed that after opening the browser data would be sent and received even when no inputs where made. Nothing was detected by AdAware Se, ZoneAlarm, Spybot S&D, F-Secure Blacklight, AVG 7.5 Virus or HiJackThis!.

May 19, 2006I am sending this report to Gateway but I do not have much faith in their support. I have the following problems with my Gateway 4540 GZ notebook (Centrino 1.5Ghz, 512 Ram, 80 HD). I REALLY need help here, as of right now, the PC is almost useless System freezes/hangs after seemingly random intervals. During a freeze, the mouse cursor will not move, and system does not respond in any way. Even hitting CAPS LOCK does not light up its corresponding LED light. Entire computer remains frozen until a power cycle. Reboot does not always succeed on first attempt, and a second or third power cycle is no longer uncommon to get back into Windows

Jan 12, 2007I was working on the computer yesterday when it froze up on me. I didn't think much of it, so I rebooted and continued what I was doing. Later that same day, the computer locked up about 2-3 more times. Then I started hearing ticking noises coming from inside. I shut it off after it froze again. When I powered it back on, the screen during bootup that displays my Hard drive's status (I have four HDs, paired up with one another), says that the first set of hard drives (which is where the OS is on) is healthy, and on the other set, it gets an error with red text. I rebooted, and sure enough, they were both healthy again.
This is where it messes up. It starting loading the Windows logo, with the progress bar. The next thing it does is go black. It doesn't boot at all after that. I have to reboot everytime. I then tried to boot in safe mode. Black screen again. I tried all the possible options in the boot menu, none of them worked. That's where my first problem takes off. So I now have a non-booting OS. The next thing I do is insert the Windows boot disk, and installed Windows XP on the same HD the original OS was on (Don't ask why, I don't know either). After the installation, Windows booted up fine, except I was running on a fresh install. Which how I'm on this site...........

Apr 30, 2009Every 3-4days my computer would freeze up while booting up at windows XP screen and scroll bars would freeze.What bohers me about this is i am sure what could be causing this. I use avg as my antivirus,and run A2, spybot,regcleaner, tweaknow on a weekly basis. I keep my system really clean, so now i am wondering is it my HD. PC: Win XP-PRO, 800MHZ AMD Athlon, 1024mb,80gHD. I did what cleaning i could in safemode, it still freeze on scroll bars. I tried last good config, result is the same. The last time i got pass the freezing was by doing a restore.

Sep 23, 2007This computer stopped booting. It would freeze in the process. Since there was nothing on the hard drive worth saving, I used the recovery boot cd. It went though the process, rebooted, and returned to the setup process. In the middle of the setup, while installing devices, the computer froze again. I have tried repeating the process to no avail. I have tried turning off some of the not so necessary things in the BIOS and trying it.

Jul 9, 2008well, this problem started a little while ago, Ive got a 2.93ghz P4, and 1GB memory, so i know my computer is (plenty) fast enough.when i click on the button in the start menu "Turn Off Computer", my PC shows the hourglass, and i cant click on anything, this will go on for about a minute or 2, once it took 5 minutes. then the small box with shutdown options comes up finally, and then after the light blue screen gets to "Shutting Down...". it takes maybe a bit longer than expected but im not to sure about that.

Freeze On Screen Saver - Freeze Seems Random
Oct 11, 2006I can be doing anything, so not even be around the computer and it freezes, could freeze on the screen saver, or when im on hte internet, or playin a game, or writing an email anything.... not an overheating problem because it has happened say right after its done booting, or 5 mins after running or say 12 hours after being on.... or jsut not freeze seems to be really random

Nov 10, 2008I was using my comp yesterday and the right & left click functions of the mouse stopped working in IE. They worked fine on the task bar. I rebooted and it took almost 15 minutes to come back up. CPU usage is at 100% all the time. Needless to say it barely runs it's so slow but everything seems to work. I rebooted into safe mode and cpu usage is normal but I can't seem to find the hang. I also ran msconfig and disabled all the startup items and service items, XP seems to start. things occur normally up to the splash screen, but just after that is where it hangs.

Aug 6, 2005I have a Pentium 2.7gHz, and Radeon 9550. A short while ago, my Pc started to hang (at random times, usually when I first turned it on in the morning, it would hang at the XP Load screen, sometimes at the logon screen, and other times just during normal use.)
This problem became more prevalent, so i decided to try a repair install. It now hangs during this install as well. This computer is currently useless.

We have to manually turn the computer off and back on and it takes several minutes before it comes to the main screen. Apr 4, 2007I get random application hang up. I can't end the program. The restart command will not respond. I must push the main button until the system shuts down. The system starts again without difficulty.The Windows XP Event Viewer shows no system errors. In the application window it simply shows Application Hang with the Event 1001/1002 combination. I can't seem to find any really useful information on these event codes. The problem has become a daily occurrence.
