May 27, 2007I'm really at a loss for words. For some odd reason, every now and again, I hear what sounds like the first second of the Linkin Park song Crawling. No idea where it's coming from. All of my mp3 players could be running or not and I've heard it. I've checked to make sure that if I had any browsers open, that there wasn't any kind of annoying flash advertisement doing it. I've updated my AVG Anti-Virus and ran that as well as AVG-Anti Spyware but I still hear the midi.

Nov 4, 2006I posted this on October 19th, but had no replies, so I'll try again.When I click on a midi link, WMP will open then freezes. CPU usage for WMP at 99%. Have to close WMP with task manager.If I go to a page with an embedded midi file, the page will freeze, no sound and cpu usage at 99% for Internet Explorer.This does not occur using Firefox only with Internet Explorer.As far a WMP, this was occurring with WMP 10, a friend suggested that I should upgrade to version 11. No change.

Jun 21, 2009For two months I have been trying to connect my (simple) "Midiplus 61" piano keyboard to my Acer "Travelmate 4150" laptop (under Win XP Home) using one of its USB ports, so as to drive a music program. The keyboard produces a MIDI stream. I must have downloaded 250 Mbytes of so called "USB-MIDI Drivers", some from Acer, some from MSoft, many from individuals who profess to know the solution. Now, in desperation I seek help from my CNET colleagues,I must add that the keyboard works fine when driving through Win 98 on an old machine and the laptop produces excellent Steinway piano sound when running, say, a "Pianoteq" demonstration file.

Jan 30, 2005I have a friends PC, a gateway P4 2.6, winxp home. The mouse and keyboard up and died. He had a kvm switch, the electronic kind when it stopped functioning. I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. May 10, 2008I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.

Apr 8, 2006I shut down system restore and went into safe mode to clean out spyware,ect. In safe mode, spybot,i used ewiedo,smit,adware. i dont recall but i think spybot was the only program to find an item. When i rebooted in normal XP, i have been unable to connect IE6,Weatherbug,Widgets to my wireless connection. However Firefox is connecting pretty good,atlhough my wireless program is funny, its telling me there is no internet connection as i surf I tried 'internet options' such as resetting IE, i tried that scannow command. again, i dont have the system restore option to use. but also yahoo widgets are not connectiong nor weathebug.

Aug 6, 2008I'm setting up my friends home network. They have 2 PCs connected via ethernet and one laptop on wireless. The router is a wireless router / modem from 2wire. PC number 2 and the laptop both connect with no issues. PC number 1 is weird though. I can go to 192.168.1.254 and it opens up the router system page and I can go through and change and view settings. However when I try to go to any websites it immediately goes to "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I have tried netscape and the iTunes store and nothing can connect to the web. I have linux ubuntu on a Live CD and I can boot from that and it connects to the internet just fine.

I share my music on my home network, it was working fine all the computers/laptops (we have about 3) could access my music collection and play it (only my 'My Music' folder was shared, not the whole drive).
About a week ago i had to put my pc user account passworded since i had alot of information about xmas prezzys on there, and i really didnt want my family finding it since they use my pc once in a while (was just being safe). I remeber when i set the password, it said 'do you want to make this account private, other people wont be able to see your files on it) that sounded like a good idea, so i clicked yes.
Now after a few days after christmas my sister wanted to access my music again, so i took the password off. But a problem occured, the laptop or any other pc's couldnt access my music. It apears on Network places but they cant open it or play the files. I go to the shared options and the problem is, is that the 'Private' box is checked. Of course being computers wanting to make it soo hard for you, it was greyed out so i couldnt uncheck it. I click the 'cannot make this public because another folder is private' or somthing. I click on that and it brings me to my user file, for me it is called 'Owner'. Im not sharing my entire drive so i dont want to make this shared, but making it public doesnt matter since im not sharing it. But alas 'Make this folder private' is also greyed out.
Making My Computer Run Faster
Sep 25, 2008I have an old computer that's running windows xp, and I want to know what I can delete from my add remove to make things run faster. I use disk cleanup and defrag often, as well as a free registry cleaner every now and again (which seems to pick up the same problems every time, i think mostly because error files are with programs that came preinstalled on my computer that are long gone, if anyone knows how to get rid of those let me know). I'm running on only 512 mb of memory. How do I view other specs? I can also provide a list of the things in add remove if you like so you guys can tell me what's unnessesary.
