How To Disable Tool Tips?
Mar 23, 2005Sometimes tool tips are usefull, but I hate them popping up in those 3 places I listed above because they contain no usefull information and are just plain annoying.

Configure Tool Tips In Explorer
Jan 26, 2005Windows XP, using explorer, if you look at a list of files, and hover over a filename, Eplorer will display a yellow tooltip with file type, date modified, size, etc. The information seems to be related to the file type : .EXE files show different information in the tooltip than .DLL files. How can this be configured ? How can I tell Windows which information to show for which type of file? I'm using two different PC's, and one just stopped showing the "Date modified" in the tooltip. I'm looking for a way to restore that.

Apr 9, 2005The Windows tool tip isn't the problem. When I connect to the internet the tool tip says 'Connected at 2.2mbps. However when you close the tool tip it's hidden, not actually terminated. Are tool tips part of shell32.dll or explorer.exe?Is it possible to terminate it? I don't mind RCE either of the files.

Now a days it is insisting to install "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" first to proceed for downloading update files.Is it a FORCE or I can bypass this tool. I do not want to install it, as somebody told me this is a tool by MS to takeout personal information on my OS (XP) and MS Office and other MS Software.I know I use genuine legal copy.But why should I allow MS to take more information ? Jun 22, 2008My HP Pavilion 750n is running really slow online, and I have a high speed connection. It's not too bad when I'm not on the Internet, but websites open really slow, and some of them just quit before they even load. I was gonna run a registry cleaner, but then I saw on here that it isn't recommended! I was using Norton, but recently uninstalled that and installed AVG, which I ran as well as Adaware; neither found any major problems. I posted a HijackThis log a few weeks ago, but no one responded so I assume there wasn't anything there either. My used space is 19.1GB and my free space is 50.6, so I don't imagine that is the problem either. I'm running Windows XP. Any suggestions on how to speed this thing up, or is it just suffering from old age?

Jul 20, 2009I cannot get Balloon Tips to work. I have tried editing Registry and added "EnableBalloonTips" to registry and set value =1. I have also disabled firewall, VirusScan and as many other active icons running in System Tray. I have looked in Tweak UI as well as Control Panel/Security Center and still cannot get Balloon Tips working. What else is there to do? This is my desktop PC. My LapTop works fine and they are both using the same Win XP Pro OS. Anyone have any suggestions aside from hand grenades? I have rebooted each time following changes to be sure they took effect.

I think it's about time that I reinstall windows and, since my HD has become quiet noisy lately, I've been thinking that maybe I should kill two birds with one stone and replace my HD at the same time. I recently purchased a big external USB HD. I have the Windows CD that came with my Dell notebook, but I've never reinstalled windows. prompt by typing cmd in the run box, I always got XP''s cmd prompt aka dos
emulator with a name bar and right clicking on it gave me tools to configure
it's appearance and functions. I am not using cmd in full screen mode. I can see it by right clicking the minimized cmd on my task bar, using properties or I can use edit from that right click context, but I want the name bar back. When I go to the right click context>properties and click normal window it should restore this but it doesn't.

Tool Bar Is Hidden
Mar 8, 2010Upon hitting a sequence of keyboard keys in error, my tool bar at the bottom of the screen has disappeared. The space for it remains, but I cannot find the correct path (or set of keys) to bring back the tool bar at the bottom of my screen. Can someone offer the path or keys I should use to get the hidden toolbar to reappear?
