I am running Windows 2000 professional edition. I have a S-video hookup on my computer, but never used it until tonight. I hooked it up, and then hooked it up to my tv. No display on the tv. So I went in to monitor advanced settings, and I found the settings for tv. The only way I got it to display on my tv was by clicking the same display icon that the monitor was on. I don't know the technical term for it. Movie playback was great as a test, but I needed to restart because of other things on my computer. When I went to restart it would get as far as booting up windows, and then I got a blue screen. It flashes so quickly before it goes to try to restart again that I can't catch it, but from what I have gathered it said something about not enough physical memory. The only thing I can figure is that the computer is trying to display both on the tv, and the monitor at the same time, and being unable to do so because of memory limitations. I have no idea how to set it back to only boot with the monitor instead of the tv as well. I tried unplugging the tv from the computer, as well as unplugging the monitor and leaving the tv connected. No change. I also attempted to boot in to safe mode and was unable to do so.
For some reason for the last 3 days my internet connection has gotten worse and worse i just reformated and reinstalled windows i have a linksys router and 2 computers hooked up to it and one playstation 2 for online gaming i looked at the setup online at 192.168.1.1 and it says i have 2 clients one at 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.102 mine is at 102 is there a reason it skips over 101 because mine use to be 100 and the other computer 101 why is it now 102?
My pc was running just fine but when cut off it wouldonly cut back on when it wanted to couple hours couple days It got to where I didn't cut it off.. justrestarted it otherwise it worked great well lightsblinked a month ago and I haven't been able to get itto come back on since.... but the little light inside is on There is no noise whatsoeverjust kinda like it is dead I took the switch off and took it to two places to try tobuy another and they said those things never go badit had to be the part it was hooked to on the motherboard. My question is can they fix this without having to replace the motherboard?
Windows XP is my OS. i accidently set my video settings to TV-Moniter, when i dont have a TV hooked up to my comp, so i couldn't see anything. So then i booted up in Safe Mode, and then i could see because of the compatibility driver, so. then i boot up in Last Known Good Config, and I'M STUCK WITH SAFE MODE SETTINGS no sound driver running, task bar is the ugly gray one, and you know just stuff like that
I have my 3 computers hooked up to a router. On my main PC, I use to be able to boot up my computer directly to my desktop. For some reason now I need to click on my user id name to get to my desktop. How can I stop this from happening so I can logon directly to my desktop? OS is XP Pro.
I have a Dell Dimension 2350. It will decide to shut down on it's own. I can tell it actually shuts down because windows doesn't try and run a chkdsk when I start it back up. Anyway I made sure to check my power settings and everything is set to Never shutdown or hibernate. It is also not hooked to the internet or a network. Just left it on doing nothing for about an hour and a half, came back and it was off. It actually only accesses the internet when I run Windows Updates.
I have had this program downloaded but never installed for quite a long time already....I asked a friend of mine the other day to use the program to back up her computer drivers using it so we could determine how exactly it works, and if the results were what I hoped for, she could then burn the folder to a cd. The reason I had her do this was because she had put in a new harddrive that I had already installed windows to for her on my system, which meant that it was configured for my own hardware and not hers by the time she got the drive in the mail from me, and once installed, no amount of playing with the drivers including new downloads would work. So I had her hook up her still available old drive, run this program and burn the files to a cd so once the new drive was hooked back up again, those drivers could be used since they worked fine on the old drive.
I was massively impressed with the outcome and saw the real potential for having all working drivers available for any new installations for anybody in that kind of situation of having to format the drive and starting over....
i screwed up my registry, and of all things it was the keyboard driver or something, so theres no hope of fixing it on my computer. ive got the drive hooked up as the slave on a different computer, but i cant figure out how to edit the registry on my drive rather than the primary drive. is there any editors that will open it from a file? any way of decompiling it? theres got to be some way to edit it. also, they are both xp.
I had had 2 operating system on 2 hard drives (XP and Vista) I took vista off and replaced it with media center. I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. I read somewhere to get rid of the vista boot screen I should delete "bootmgr" file and "boot" folder from the root of C: I did this and now nothing works. It tries to boot into vista boot screen but it says files are missing and resets
When i booted up my pc to put some coursework on a usb stick, it failed to boot to xp. It went to the "xp was not shutdown properly, boot to safe mode, or last known working settings screen, ETC". None of the options work, i have tried all of them, safe mode and last known working settings included. When i select one of the options, the hardrive spins up, and then my gfx card bios info and mobo splash screen come on. Well, i think it might be because i ran a 'virus remover' for the game gmod, this was the first time the computer had been booted since i ran it.
I have a laptop (IBM Thinkvantage Thinkpad) and when i boot it does the following:Shows motherboard graphic Goes to "Starting windows." with a loading bar under it.Stops and says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WINNTSYSTEM32CONFIG SYSTEMced" Now i know that that means the hive file is too big and i know how to fix it But I don't have a Win2k boot disk and i don't have any floppy drives installed I had an idea to try and do a network boot through the BIOS setup which it does allow but i don't really have any server programs to "host" a network boot with my Windows XP desktop.
My HP computer will not boot after "fixing" a problem with SP3. It boots to the HP Invent screen but won't load the OS. Can not enter Safe mode. I know it's an OS/boot problem. Anyone know where in the boot process the problem would occur?

I am hoping that someone here can help me with a boot-up problem.I have a laptop with Windows XP Operating System. When I start up, it starts into the Windows Boot-Up, goes thru the drivers list, then it flashes a blue tech error screen so fast I can't read it. I don't know how to pause it. It then re-cycles back and starts it all over again.I have F8 it, gotten to the selection to start up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, but it only starts the above mentioned boot cycle all over again. It will not boot from a CD, and the computer does not have a floppy drive, so I can't use a boot disk (that would be my preference)It is possible that it could be affected by a virus in the boot sector, but I can't get to the command prompt in order to run a DOS Virus Scan. I am trying to resolve this problem without wiping out the drive ... but that will still be my last resort.
Okay, just when I thought I was getting rid of my blue screen errors, my PC decides to not boot at all.I turn it on, and I see the HP splash screen, and then the following message:Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.I don't have a system disk, so I have no idea what they are talking about. This is a brand new HP a510n PC, Athlon Xp 3000+ windows XP home, 512 RAM 120 gig hdd. At the HP splash screen, I am only able to enter the BIOS. I tried system recovery (by pressing F10 like it said on the screen) but it gave me the same error. In the BIOS, my hard drive is detected, and set to boot after my floppy and CD-rom. I tried setting the hard drive to boot first, but the error continues.I haven't installed any new hardware or software recently, and I ran several tests on my RAM a few days ago, and passed.
My friend computer does not boot up like it use to do and he said he did not do anything to it. When he cut the computer it has a little blanking line it the top left corner and it takes about 30 minutes and when that is finish at the bottom a lot of little lines go across the screen and when that finish it will boot to the desk top can any one tell me why so I can pass the info on to hi
Last week, on 2 separate occasions, my computer randomly shut down. But both times I was able to reboot and it was fine after that. Then today, it started acting really slow. So I tried to restart. It shut down fine, but when it tried to start back up, I got a message saying "A disk read error occurred. press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I then restarted and used f10 to go into System recovery, which tells me that "minintsystem32 tkrnlmp.exe" is missing.I have a recovery CD, which I am able to go into the Microsoft Recovery Console. But I am really not sure what I am doing at this point. i tried using the chkdsk command, and it told me I had errors.
I'll start this off from the beginning (yesterday) cuz my computer was working fine, then I had to shoot myself in the foot. I was removing some malware and thought I'd try to run an online virus scanner in "safe mode with networking". However, everytime I tried to reboot in that mode, my computer would just reboot itself and go back to the reboot selection. It started fine when I selected "start windows normally".Here's where I shot myself in the foot: I went to Start-->Run-->msconfig, went to Boot.ini tab and tried to select the safe mode with networking that way, and now my computer won't boot up at all...just keeps restarting without making it to the Windows loading screen. I tried to put in my Windows XP CD and change the boot log in the BIOS, but nothing comes up and I don't really know how or what to do anyway.
For the past week or so I have been trying to fix my girlfriend's computer. Apparently, she downloaded some kind of spyware, a virus, or possibly both. I consider myself pretty handy with computers, however I can't even get her computer to boot so I can troubleshoot the problem. When I turn her computer on it displays the Sony logo, the Pentium logo, it beeps once, then starts all over again. It will repeat this process as long as the computer is powered on.I'm willing to try any suggestions you all may have, but here is what I have tried so far (via some tech support from another forum):
-I tried using Last Known Good Configuration and rebooting in Safe Mode
-I created a Puppy Linux boot CD which successfully loaded and let me see all of the files, etc. on the hard drive which I guess would prove there is no damage to the hard drive itself.
-I created a Windows Recovery CD, and ran the following commands: chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr
My computer (Windows XP) won't boot due to a missing or corrupt hal.dll file (because of an incorrect boot.ini file) and I can't start up to do anything about it.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Windows XP.
I was in the middle of using the internet, checking e-mail and television line-ups and the computer froze. I couldn't move the mouse and the screen was not advancing after having waited quite a while. I tried to use ctrl + alt + del to restart the computer but it didn't work. I then depressed and held the power button to shut the computer off.
A few minutes later I tried to turn the computer on. The power light comes on. The cap lock light and another light next to it keep blinking for several minutes. There is no picture on the monitor. After a little while power light turns off and the blink lights stop. At no time can I open up the cd drive.
I don't know what is wrong with it. I didn't notice any power surges or outages when I was using it and I don't keep it plugged in when I am not using it. I'm pretty sure that the battery is charged at least partially and it has been holding a charge for a few hours.
Is it completely fried? Is it a virus? Should I bring it to a technician? I'm pretty sure it is out of warranty now.
my computer was running totally fine until i was converting some videos with itunes for my itouch and then the itunes froze the comp. it did the freeze i restarted the computer but ...nothing. i can't even get into the bios screen! everything powers up fine so i know its not the psu. I have an eMachines Mod. T2642. OS WindowsXP Home sp2. When I plug in the power cord, the fans start up and the HD LED starts to flash and there is a clicking sound coming from the cpu. This is as for as it goes...no p.o.s.t. no nothing. The power switch will not turn the system off.
A friend of mine just got updates from Microsoft and then had to reboot...upon rebooting her system, she was told there was NO BOOT DEVICE AVAILABLE.She has the Dell Vostro 200 series, running WinXP. I had her go into the bios and her HD is the first device in the BOOT ORDER. What else can I try to correct this issue and what would have caused the WIN UPDATE to prevent the computer from booting up?
After a failed ubuntu install on my dell 4700 i restarted my computer to read the message"no boot device availale press f1 to retry"and im unable to boot manually, my guess is that i accidentally formated it.trying to boot off the disc with windows xp install on it gets the same message, due to my somewhat broken drive.what do i do...and i cant install ubuntu either.
My pc won't boot up I turn it on, it brings up the purple packard bell screen, it goes through all the motions you'd expect untill the "windows XP" screen usually comes up..its just black..nothing there. It will also not allow me to boot from my windows XP cd,so i dont know how to fix this!
Last night I installed service pack 3 for xp home not thinking much of it. It told me that setup had completed successfully and that I had to reboot my machine, and here is what I have on my hands now:When I start the machine, the dell screen first comes up as usual and then XP Home begins to load (the screen where the logo is in the middle and the little bars move from left to right in the middle of the screen)...so far so good. Then, after a few seconds that screen goes away, then comes back for a few seconds, and then continues to a blue screen where the logon screen would normally appear. At this point, the mouse pointer shows up in the middle of the screen, which I can move, and the screen stays completely blue and nothing happens
