Computer Wont Boot - Boot Manager Error?

Apr 6, 2008

I had had 2 operating system on 2 hard drives (XP and Vista) I took vista off and replaced it with media center. I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. I read somewhere to get rid of the vista boot screen I should delete "bootmgr" file and "boot" folder from the root of C: I did this and now nothing works. It tries to boot into vista boot screen but it says files are missing and resets

Computer Wont Boot To Any Of The Xp Boot Options?

Nov 6, 2006

When i booted up my pc to put some coursework on a usb stick, it failed to boot to xp. It went to the "xp was not shutdown properly, boot to safe mode, or last known working settings screen, ETC". None of the options work, i have tried all of them, safe mode and last known working settings included. When i select one of the options, the hardrive spins up, and then my gfx card bios info and mobo splash screen come on. Well, i think it might be because i ran a 'virus remover' for the game gmod, this was the first time the computer had been booted since i ran it.

Computer Wont Boot: Asking For Boot Able Floppy?

Oct 6, 2007

I have a laptop (IBM Thinkvantage Thinkpad) and when i boot it does the following:Shows motherboard graphic Goes to "Starting windows." with a loading bar under it.Stops and says "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:WINNTSYSTEM32CONFIG SYSTEMced" Now i know that that means the hive file is too big and i know how to fix it But I don't have a Win2k boot disk and i don't have any floppy drives installed I had an idea to try and do a network boot through the BIOS setup which it does allow but i don't really have any server programs to "host" a network boot with my Windows XP desktop.

Can't Boot Computer

Mar 8, 2008

I am hoping that someone here can help me with a boot-up problem.I have a laptop with Windows XP Operating System. When I start up, it starts into the Windows Boot-Up, goes thru the drivers list, then it flashes a blue tech error screen so fast I can't read it. I don't know how to pause it. It then re-cycles back and starts it all over again.I have F8 it, gotten to the selection to start up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, but it only starts the above mentioned boot cycle all over again. It will not boot from a CD, and the computer does not have a floppy drive, so I can't use a boot disk (that would be my preference)It is possible that it could be affected by a virus in the boot sector, but I can't get to the command prompt in order to run a DOS Virus Scan. I am trying to resolve this problem without wiping out the drive ... but that will still be my last resort.

My Computer Won't Boot

May 21, 2004

Okay, just when I thought I was getting rid of my blue screen errors, my PC decides to not boot at all.I turn it on, and I see the HP splash screen, and then the following message:Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.I don't have a system disk, so I have no idea what they are talking about. This is a brand new HP a510n PC, Athlon Xp 3000+ windows XP home, 512 RAM 120 gig hdd. At the HP splash screen, I am only able to enter the BIOS. I tried system recovery (by pressing F10 like it said on the screen) but it gave me the same error. In the BIOS, my hard drive is detected, and set to boot after my floppy and CD-rom. I tried setting the hard drive to boot first, but the error continues.I haven't installed any new hardware or software recently, and I ran several tests on my RAM a few days ago, and passed.

Computer Won't Boot

Sep 4, 2006

Last week, on 2 separate occasions, my computer randomly shut down. But both times I was able to reboot and it was fine after that. Then today, it started acting really slow. So I tried to restart. It shut down fine, but when it tried to start back up, I got a message saying "A disk read error occurred. press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I then restarted and used f10 to go into System recovery, which tells me that "minintsystem32 tkrnlmp.exe" is missing.I have a recovery CD, which I am able to go into the Microsoft Recovery Console. But I am really not sure what I am doing at this point. i tried using the chkdsk command, and it told me I had errors.

Computer Won't Boot

Dec 7, 2008

I'll start this off from the beginning (yesterday) cuz my computer was working fine, then I had to shoot myself in the foot. I was removing some malware and thought I'd try to run an online virus scanner in "safe mode with networking". However, everytime I tried to reboot in that mode, my computer would just reboot itself and go back to the reboot selection. It started fine when I selected "start windows normally".Here's where I shot myself in the foot: I went to Start-->Run-->msconfig, went to Boot.ini tab and tried to select the safe mode with networking that way, and now my computer won't boot up at all...just keeps restarting without making it to the Windows loading screen. I tried to put in my Windows XP CD and change the boot log in the BIOS, but nothing comes up and I don't really know how or what to do anyway.

Computer Will Not Boot

Mar 26, 2008

For the past week or so I have been trying to fix my girlfriend's computer. Apparently, she downloaded some kind of spyware, a virus, or possibly both. I consider myself pretty handy with computers, however I can't even get her computer to boot so I can troubleshoot the problem. When I turn her computer on it displays the Sony logo, the Pentium logo, it beeps once, then starts all over again. It will repeat this process as long as the computer is powered on.I'm willing to try any suggestions you all may have, but here is what I have tried so far (via some tech support from another forum):

-I tried using Last Known Good Configuration and rebooting in Safe Mode

-I created a Puppy Linux boot CD which successfully loaded and let me see all of the files, etc. on the hard drive which I guess would prove there is no damage to the hard drive itself.

-I created a Windows Recovery CD, and ran the following commands: chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr

Computer Won't Boot

Jul 23, 2008

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Windows XP.

I was in the middle of using the internet, checking e-mail and television line-ups and the computer froze. I couldn't move the mouse and the screen was not advancing after having waited quite a while. I tried to use ctrl + alt + del to restart the computer but it didn't work. I then depressed and held the power button to shut the computer off.

A few minutes later I tried to turn the computer on. The power light comes on. The cap lock light and another light next to it keep blinking for several minutes. There is no picture on the monitor. After a little while power light turns off and the blink lights stop. At no time can I open up the cd drive.

I don't know what is wrong with it. I didn't notice any power surges or outages when I was using it and I don't keep it plugged in when I am not using it. I'm pretty sure that the battery is charged at least partially and it has been holding a charge for a few hours.

Is it completely fried? Is it a virus? Should I bring it to a technician? I'm pretty sure it is out of warranty now.

It told me that setup had completed successfully and that I had to reboot my machine, and here is what I have on my hands now:When I start the machine, the dell screen first comes up as usual and then XP Home begins to load (the screen where the logo is in the middle and the little bars move from left to right in the middle of the screen)...so far so good. Then, after a few seconds that screen goes away, then comes back for a few seconds, and then continues to a blue screen where the logon screen would normally appear. At this point, the mouse pointer shows up in the middle of the screen, which I can move, and the screen stays completely blue and nothing happens

Computer Wont Boot Up

Jun 28, 2008

With absolutely no warning, my computer (not the one I am on now) today decided that it was not going to boot up and instead keeps presenting me with what I am told is called the Blue Screen of Death. The screen tells me that Windows has been shut down in order to prevent damage.I have been on the internet all day trying to find out what I should do, but everything I have been able to find gives instructions which rely on the computer being able to boot up. When I turn on the computer I am offered various modes in which I can start up my computer, but all lead to the same blue screen. I have my Windows XP cd ready, as some of the replies to similar problems I found suggested using this, but I couldnt find any instructions which seemed to be for the exact same problem, or that I was capable of following. Unfortunately, I'm not that fantastic with computers so Im afraid not only do I need to find instructions which are specific to my problem, but I probably also need them presented as a complete idiots guide. This computer has all of my school work, music, photos etc. on it so I would be extremely grateful of any help that could be offered.

PC Will Boot But Only After Many Tries - Computer Freezes

Oct 30, 2008

My emachine PC, running on XP will, more often than not, not boot up without repeatedly pressing the start button on the tower. Before this problem began, when the computer ran normally, as soon as the ON button was pressed the cooling fans would whir at high speed for 2 seconds and then drop to a quieter, low rpm speed. The emachine logo would appear followed by the Microsoft screen, etc. Since the problem began, when the ON button is pressed the fans come up at high speed but will not drop to the quieter state, nor does the emachines logo appear. Essentially, the computer freezes.

Hooked Tv To Computer / Now No Boot

Feb 4, 2007

I am running Windows 2000 professional edition. I have a S-video hookup on my computer, but never used it until tonight. I hooked it up, and then hooked it up to my tv. No display on the tv. So I went in to monitor advanced settings, and I found the settings for tv. The only way I got it to display on my tv was by clicking the same display icon that the monitor was on. I don't know the technical term for it. Movie playback was great as a test, but I needed to restart because of other things on my computer. When I went to restart it would get as far as booting up windows, and then I got a blue screen. It flashes so quickly before it goes to try to restart again that I can't catch it, but from what I have gathered it said something about not enough physical memory. The only thing I can figure is that the computer is trying to display both on the tv, and the monitor at the same time, and being unable to do so because of memory limitations. I have no idea how to set it back to only boot with the monitor instead of the tv as well. I tried unplugging the tv from the computer, as well as unplugging the monitor and leaving the tv connected. No change. I also attempted to boot in to safe mode and was unable to do so.

Computer Won't Boot Past BIOS

Nov 8, 2009

I left my computer in "suspend", and when I sat again, it was frozen at my BIOS screen. Each time I try to restart it, it goes straight to that screen. I can't even access my BIOS settings (pressing keyboard buttons doesn't work). Nothing changed when I placed my XP disk in the ROM drive.

I'm using an ASUS mobo and AMD processor (sorry, I can't recall the particular models right now). I have not changed any hardware or installed new software recently except anti-virus definitions.

Does this sound like a motherboard or PSU issue?

Tried To Update BIOS And Computer Won't Boot

Oct 13, 2009

I tried to update my BIOS on my Acer AOA150 Netbook (I know, terrible idea, I wanted it to be updated in case I used a 9 cell battery). I downloaded the BIOS, version 3310, from http://global-download.acer.com/GDFi...&LC=en&SC=PA_7

I clicked on one of the readme files and it said to click on one of the executable files included in the download and to then click "sure." Once I clicked sure, my computer immediately shut down. I tried to turn it on after only about 5 seconds. It simply will not start up completely but I *can* get to the F2 screen. If I choose not to go with the F2 option, the normal Windows XP flashing image will come up, except it flashes slightly slower than normal. Then, right before the screen can display my various accounts to start windows, the netbook completely shuts off. This is an Acer AOA 150 model netbook. I downloaded the BIOS.

I may have tried to turn it on while the computer was still trying to flash the BIOS. Or, I just messed up from the start by trying to do it from Windows.
