I have my 3 computers hooked up to a router. On my main PC, I use to be able to boot up my computer directly to my desktop. For some reason now I need to click on my user id name to get to my desktop. How can I stop this from happening so I can logon directly to my desktop? OS is XP Pro.
View 13 RepliesI am hoping somebody on here will be able to help me. I just installed a wireless router so the kids could have the Internet on their computer. I went into the setup and set times to limit how late they could be on. When the time comes that they should be shut off the router disconnects them and then reconnects them shortly thereafter. I have it set to shut off at 9:00 p.m. and turned back on at 8:00 a.m.. I am using a Linksys systems router.

My question is can they fix this without having to replace

I am running Windows 2000 professional edition. I have a S-video hookup on my computer, but never used it until tonight. I hooked it up, and then hooked it up to my tv. No display on the tv. So I went in to monitor advanced settings, and I found the settings for tv. The only way I got it to display on my tv was by clicking the same display icon that the monitor was on. I don't know the technical term for it. Movie playback was great as a test, but I needed to restart because of other things on my computer. When I went to restart it would get as far as booting up windows, and then I got a blue screen. It flashes so quickly before it goes to try to restart again that I can't catch it, but from what I have gathered it said something about not enough physical memory. The only thing I can figure is that the computer is trying to display both on the tv, and the monitor at the same time, and being unable to do so because of memory limitations. I have no idea how to set it back to only boot with the monitor instead of the tv as well. I tried unplugging the tv from the computer, as well as unplugging the monitor and leaving the tv connected. No change. I also attempted to boot in to safe mode and was unable to do so.

So then i booted up in Safe Mode, and then i could see because of the compatibility driver, so. then i boot up in Last Known Good Config, and I'M STUCK WITH SAFE MODE SETTINGS no sound driver running, task bar is the ugly gray one, and you know just stuff like that
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer starts up normally.It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.
I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters
For some reason for the last 3 days my internet connection has gotten worse and worse i just reformated and reinstalled windows i have a linksys router and 2 computers hooked up to it and one playstation 2 for online gaming i looked at the setup online at 192.168.1.1 and it says i have 2 clients one at 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.102 mine is at 102 is there a reason it skips over 101 because mine use to be 100 and the other computer 101 why is it now 102?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 2350. It will decide to shut down on it's own. I can tell it actually shuts down because windows doesn't try and run a chkdsk when I start it back up. Anyway I made sure to check my power settings and everything is set to Never shutdown or hibernate. It is also not hooked to the internet or a network. Just left it on doing nothing for about an hour and a half, came back and it was off. It actually only accesses the internet when I run Windows Updates.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have had this program downloaded but never installed for quite a long time already....I asked a friend of mine the other day to use the program to back up her computer drivers using it so we could determine how exactly it works, and if the results were what I hoped for, she could then burn the folder to a cd. The reason I had her do this was because she had put in a new harddrive that I had already installed windows to for her on my system, which meant that it was configured for my own hardware and not hers by the time she got the drive in the mail from me, and once installed, no amount of playing with the drivers including new downloads would work. So I had her hook up her still available old drive, run this program and burn the files to a cd so once the new drive was hooked back up again, those drivers could be used since they worked fine on the old drive.
I was massively impressed with the outcome and saw the real potential for having all working drivers available for any new installations for anybody in that kind of situation of having to format the drive and starting over....
I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."
No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.
When i boot up the system hangs at the blue 'Windows xp' screen, the 'Windows is starting' is missing and it goes no further, the logon screen does not appear so i can't get in. I have recovery console on and i can get into the drive by booting in from another drive/operating system

When I open my internet browser to go to a web page it begins to search for it, however then displays page cannot be displayed message and informs me that the server cannot be found or a DNS has occurred.Sometimes i get a bubble pop up saying limited or no connectivity.
Before the connection stopped working, my main computer was connected directly to the router and there were two laptops also using the router wirelessly. And please read the whole thing as others have posted responses but they aren't relevant.I have a small home system, an XP SP3 desktop, a Win7 Laptop, a file server, and a LinkSys router WRT310N (my third router).The problems seem to occur on the XP desktop. Starting about nine months ago, http requests would become corrupted. Once when I tried to access a page on NYTIMES.COM, I got that page, but on the WASHINGTONTPOST.COM (page not found, of course). Now, about once a day or more, I get some sort of corruption. Mostly, I lose network mappings (I have a small home system); and also at the same time, I cannot get any documents via HTTP; or just some seemingly random sites, I get URL not found, or today, the comments on some blogs don't appear at all. USUALLY, rebooting fixes this, so I reboot several times a day.
THE Win7 Laptop NEVER has any problems. Both are wired into the router. When the problems occur, I cannot raise the router from the desktop; nor can I access any documents via HTTP even using IP addresses. I can however, ping successfully.ONCE I noticed that when the problem occurred, and my phone was using the wireless connection to the router, it too had the same problems with its browser. BUT the WIN7 Laptop never has any problems.I've used MALWAREBYTES and other Anti-virues, but they find nothing. I've tried repairing the stack with "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" but that doesn't work either.
A Wanadoo-a789 Model: dv4210-wa as a router and 2 computers both running windows xp and were both reinstalled not long ago, for a while they were able to talk to each other but for some reasson they just can't see each other now, they can't even ping each other. This is even with the windows and router firewall turned off.

Not the wireless.How do I turn off the wireless part. I do not want to use it yet, and I do not want anyone else to use my connection over the air. My home computers are already set up in a wired network. This is my first router, so I'm a bit unused to router jargin. I did a quick scan of the complete manual, and saw how to set up the wired and wireless part, but nothing about turning it off the wireless. Maybe it is as simple as not connecting the antenna. View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 4 computers on a D-Link wireless router. My wife uses the wireless feature. All computers connect to the net flawlessly. The two downstairs computers are hardwired. One is a Pentium 120mh running Win98, the other is a P4 Running WinXP Pro. I started a Home network using the P4 and made up a Setup disk which I installed on the rest of the computers. The two downstairs computers and the wife's laptop all work with the network. A recently purchased Dell Dimension 3000 completes the system and it too was hardwired into the router but refuses to co-operate.It neither sees the work group or can be seen by the others. I have tried several things, including disabling the firewall, pinging seems to work fine. I tried contacting Dell, but that was a bust.

We have 3 computers and have connected all 3 to a d-link router. The problem we are having is that only 2 comps will work online at one time. The other one gets an error message. Our system is windows xp and we have tried rearranging the cables but the problem stays the same.
