Home No User At Welcome Screen
Nov 27, 2009
I've got an issue with Windows XP logins. I've been working on my father's notebook on this for awhile. The issue is that when you start the computer you reach the welcome screen and there are no users to select to login. Computer is using Windows XP Home SP3. Previous to this issue, it started automatically without a login screen.

I am trying to fix a friends computer my usual story. Once it gets to the user screen for user selection both keyboard and mouse stop working, its either they stop working or the computer freezes, i am not sure. Life still goes to the mouse as it still lights. The keyboad works fine in the bios but not at freezing point.

as soon as i log in instead of welcome screen to choose logins i go to a dialog box where i have to give my password and usernam... i tried to change this by going to control panel and user accounts. as soon as i clicked on "change the way user logs in or logs off" i get a error as 'A recently installed program has disabled the welcome screen and fast user switching . to restore these features , you must uninstall the program. the following name might help you identify the program that made the change - KLGina.dll"
so i tried to delete i couldnt ... eventually it got deleted by software "unlocker" but as i log in again an error as "please contact system administrator as klgina.dll is missing'.. i got that back again by system restore..

I wanted to protect my documents on my laptop with a password, and I used ''the easy way'' of protecting it from within my XP user account (I used the built in documents password protection, found in the account mangement menu in the control panel). everything was fine until I've restarted the computer. I got (and still getting) the following message: ''The system could not log you on.

In recently restoring my crashed machine, I noticed that when the machine was
idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account
(which appears to be hidden? Should I allow it to log in under the covers? If
so, do I have to re-click 'Users must enter a user name and password, etc."

I am fairly comfortable with my XP home set up. Iwas looking at a Dell desktop that offers XP Pro loaded and a CD of Vista Business free. Would I be able to use Pro as I do Home and ignore the bells and whistles advantages? I may want to install Vista eventually and this seemed like a cheap way to test! I have seen some reviews of Pro and it does not seem too different.

I'm using XP Home edition and have set up user profiles with passwords. They at one point they were able to log onto the Internet from their accounts. Now they are unable to access anything other than their own documents. Any ideas what happened and how to fix this? The virus software is up to date and the scanner runs clean, although the sytem overall seems slower.

I have two computers & so I don't frequently use the one I am having the problem with. It is a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop Running Windows XP Home/newbie so pls be patient..Anyway, the Dell got infected with the NSIS Media Trojan & I tried everything to remove it including but not limited to Webroot spy sweeper. It would quarantine it but apparently this thing regenerates in the registry. Therefore, I decided I needed to really secure my system & so since I am the only user, I deleted the non-admin logon account & set up the admin account with a password. I wrote it down but have lost the paper which I had written the password on. The hint is not helping me remember it exactly so I'm locked out.

I have Windows XP home edition and on one of the 4 user settings I get the message the WinCtlAd.exe failed to execute. I also get WinCtlAdAlt.exe failed.
In the task manager they seem to be trying to run repeatedly using 100% of the cpu. What are these files? Are they part of Windows or are the something malicious that I can delete? I have the urge to delete them but I hesitant to do so until I get some expert advice.

Whenever I try to get into the User Accounts section of my Windows XP, I get the following error:"Can't move focus to the control because it is invisible, not enabled, or of a type that does not accept the focus"I have absolutely no idea what it means, or how to go about fixing it. The account is Administrator, and I have used WindowBlinds with it in the past. I don't even know if WindowBlinds has anything to do with the problem, but it didn't start until around the point that I was using it. But it is uninstalled now, and I still get the error. There is another account on the computer, it is my sisters, and it can access the User Accounts section just fine... but it is not an Administrator account so it isn't much help for me.

I logged into my admin user account today and suddenly the admin profile has been wiped out. I'm guessing that XP uses a similar method as is done on unix in terms of user profiles, ie a flat file to hold user preferences and what not.In any case I had all these settings for the admin account for things such as mouse, outlook express, startup programs etc. Now when I log into the account it's like I just created it for the first time. Outlook express is no longer set up which is really annoying because I'm worried now that I might lose all my emails and address book if I set it up again ( you know with the pop server settings and stuff)Any thoughts on this? How can I get my admin "profile" back. Where the hell did it go. I'm assuming it's a file somewhere and for some reason the user account program can no longer find it and assumes a new account has been created.

Just like the build in administrator account which is not displayed on welcome screen but one can log into this account thru the classic log in screen instead of welcome screen (pressing Ctrl Alt Del) twice?
