sometimes it will spontaneously shut itself off. First, the screen will go out. Next, the computer itself will shut down. This always occurs when I am doing something that requires a lot of resources, such as playing a game or watching a video (but only when the video is streamed, it handles DVD and avi files just fine). In retrospect, it's 99% game related.
A while ago, I posted a problem about my computer shutting down and throught I had it fixed after scanning/removing spyware and running disk check. But the last few days it's been happening again. It just shuts down while I'm working on something, either surfing the net, working in psp, working in windows movie maker, checking email, etc. Then I can't turn it back on by pushing the button on the tower. When I look in the back of the tower, the green light for the power isn't on, so I have to push the power cord in and out and jiggle it around a bit to get the green light to turn on and the computer to start up. What could be wrong?
I don't mean "turns off", I mean the user gets logged off and then the computer shuts down. Nothing seems to precipitate this, and it is happening on a few computers. These are all stock gateways.
My name's Montana from london and i've got a problem with my sony laptop viao recently as it keeps on shuting off and on over and over and i cant even do anything..Is there anyway i can solve this issue please.I look forward to hearing from you'all.
my neighbor has an IBM think pad PENTIUM III. the laptop would boot and the shut off after like 3-6 minutes. we kept trying to get it going then after a while the screen would just flaSH green-blue-red- and other colors with out booting.i tried booting from a 'boot magic disk" but the screen was all in a grainy white color and could not see a thing.
i was using spybot search an destroy to get rid of some spyware and it said id need to restart to fix one of the problems so i tried but now my aptop is not starting. because of the spyware on it im not bothered about fixing it properly and just want to format the c drive and start again but i need to copy some files from my documents to the second partition on the harddrive first. iv tried using the xp start disc using the repair current windows instalation with repair console thing but that wont let me access my docs. i also tried starting in safe mode with command prompt but it has the same problem as starting normaly it gets to the screen after the scrolling loader bar but before u get the list of acounts to log into then it shutsdown. this is the first time iv had a problem with my laptop before i just had a pc and would use a win98 boot disc to copy the files but my laptop doesnt have a floppy drive is it possible to use a memory stick or something similar.
It's about my Acer laptop (model 5672) with Windows XP Pro SP3.
The problem with the laptop is that he randomly freezes. It can happened each two days or each 5 minutes. It doesnt matter what program Im using. When he freezes, I need to turn him off by pushing the onbutton. When I want to reboot he refuses. He powers on, but when he should be showing the white Acerlogo screen (splash screen?), before the booting of Windows, nothing happens and the screen stays black. The only thing I can do is power him off and start over again. But when I power him off, I noticed that at the end, the dvdwriter makes a lot of noise. Only after a while or a lot of trying (on and off pushing on the button) he boots. The not appearance of the white Acerlogo screen (splash?) at the beginning of the boot process tells me this isnt a software problem.
I also have to mention that he went back to the factory 3 times in 3 weeks. The first time the hdd was changed, second time the RAM memory was faulty. The third time, they said they "tested complete system=>system OK No trouble found". how can i fix this problem?
I have recently deleted my XP partition and attempted reinstalling XP due to degrading performance. Yes I took that way out. While installing, or often before, the power randomly cuts off with no warning at random places. Last time I did this I just had to keep trying all night until one time it worked long enough to install.
My laptop has recently been lagging severely and randomly disconnecting from the internet. It hasn't done this before and when I scan with my antivirus it doesn't find anything. But when I run my computer in safe mode I have no problems at all, so its probably a virus.
My granddaughter's computer has Windows XP, and the IE 6.0 shuts down constantly. I thought perhaps it had to do with the service pak updates -- although I see that she has computer set for automatic updates. After installing XP Service Pks, XP Professional, IE shuts down and does NOT ALLOW THE UPDATE to proceed. but sends an error report message notifying IE is shutting down. Why is IE shutting down?
my IE6 continually shuts down every minute!!! Im using XP home and have included my hijack log below. When it shuts down, I receive the famous "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Also, the failed file proccess in the details section of the error box is never the same! I've already run 3 spy & malware programs so I'm pretty sure Im clean.
PC shuts down using the internet and immediately get PXE E53 - no boot filename received and PXE MOF - Exiting Intel boot agent. This happened a few times and a simple turn off/on solved the problem. Now I cannot get it to reboot at all. I am running a IBM NetVista with XP and Norton. Both XP and Norton have auto update so they should be have all current updates.
i recently got my computer back from the repair shop and everything worked ok for awhile then it went completely to hell.sometimes when i start up the computer it shuts down, restarts, or goes to the desktop and says "this computer will shutdown in 30 seconds" or something like that as soon as i get to my desktop then sometimes like right now its just fine until i try to burn a cd or a dvd then it will turn off completely for no reason , ive ran avg, spybot, ad-aware, cw-shredder, housecall but still nothing is found. please help me as soon as u can, this is very frustrating as i have to do my schooling on the computer.
Since the last 4-5 days my computer has been shutting down by itself. No warning nothing at all. Just Kaput.I mean windows doesn't show shut down message either. Also I feel it has something to do with my power settings( which are set down to never shut down/hibernate/standby), but I feel that if I leave it idle for some time.. that's when it goes.. if I keep working, it'll stay on.What's more, I think it started after an adobe flash player update( or maybe a windows update, both happened at the same time. Some kinda software distribution service 3.0).. System restore is not working either.I'm running Windows XP home on a compaq 2500 series laptop with P IV 2.4 Gigs processor, 512 mb RAM and 120 GB IDE HDD.
I had a problem with my pc for a while and i can't find any solution on the i-net. My problem is that when i restart my pc, it turns off for about 3-5 seconds then delay 2-3 sec and bios starts, then the os. The question is why it shuts down when i restart my pc. I'm not overclocker, and this problem came recently.
I ran the virus scan I ran adware, spybot and cw shredder all show nothing here's a hijack log any help is appreciated. I also can't get the folder common task bar off the desk top. It showed up after an update and I can't get rid of it.

First of all, after clicking "shut down" my computer would go to a screen labeled "It is now safe to shut down your computer." I have encountered this before, and I went to turn on APM in power settings. However, I can no longer go to stand by anymore
I have a Toshiba Satellite computer and when I run it wireless it seems to shut down for no reason at all. I can use it for about a half hour and then it will turn off and when I turn it back on it will shut down about 10-15 min later.
My computer keeps shutting down after less than a minute and gives some type error message, don't recall right now what it said,am not at the computer that is shutting down. What could be the problem? Seems like is says it is shutting down to protect itself or something.
I hate this PC. I have had one problem after another, but I can't afford another PC right now and have to deal with this POS Emachines.

Everything has been working fine now for about 6 months(So I'm 3 mos overdo for a crash) since I had to wipe everthing and restart. Last week I had to tape a Digital Video and then edit it using Windows Movie Maker. The storing was very slow but I finally finished the project. Then I decided to tape one last thing on my Nokia N95 (A phone with a very good Carl Zeiss video recorder in it)..................
I keep all of my digital photos in one folder. I have a few AVI files taken with the camera. If I navigate to a sub folder that contains one of these AVI files Explorer shuts down with a "Data Execution Prevention Error"

I had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. I kept getting this message on a blue screen saying my video driver failed to initialize and it shut down automatically but it would boot up normal if I didn't try to go into safe mode.So I read that you could set your computer to automatically boot into safe mode from msconfig so I went in and set it to boot into safe mode automatically every time I powered up. So I turned off my computer and tried to.No matter what I do, no matter what option I select the blue screen with the error about my video driver comes up and it shuts down automatically.
I have a problem with loading WinXP, basically everytime when it loads, after the WInXP boot logo the monitor goes black and shuts down for about 5 mins, then turns on again and loads as usually. This started happening after I replaced the integrated VIA KM400 vid card with a new Radeon 9250 one.
I accidently installed a wireless card before I installed the software. After I realized this, I shut down the computer and removed the card. When I went to restart it, it starts Windows okay, loads up the toolbar along the bottom and all of my shortcuts, then displays the message : DLL Intuition Failed, Windows is Shutting Down. Now every time I restart it, it goes through the same steps and shuts down.
