sometimes it will spontaneously shut itself off. First, the screen will go out. Next, the computer itself will shut down. This always occurs when I am doing something that requires a lot of resources, such as playing a game or watching a video (but only when the video is streamed, it handles DVD and avi files just fine). In retrospect, it's 99% game related.
View 8 RepliesA while ago, I posted a problem about my computer shutting down and throught I had it fixed after scanning/removing spyware and running disk check. But the last few days it's been happening again. It just shuts down while I'm working on something, either surfing the net, working in psp, working in windows movie maker, checking email, etc. Then I can't turn it back on by pushing the button on the tower. When I look in the back of the tower, the green light for the power isn't on, so I have to push the power cord in and out and jiggle it around a bit to get the green light to turn on and the computer to start up. What could be wrong?

View 10 Replies View Relatedi was using spybot search an destroy to get rid of some spyware and it said id need to restart to fix one of the problems so i tried but now my aptop is not starting. because of the spyware on it im not bothered about fixing it properly and just want to format the c drive and start again but i need to copy some files from my documents to the second partition on the harddrive first. iv tried using the xp start disc using the repair current windows instalation with repair console thing but that wont let me access my docs. i also tried starting in safe mode with command prompt but it has the same problem as starting normaly it gets to the screen after the scrolling loader bar but before u get the list of acounts to log into then it shutsdown. this is the first time iv had a problem with my laptop before i just had a pc and would use a win98 boot disc to copy the files but my laptop doesnt have a floppy drive is it possible to use a memory stick or something similar.

The problem with the laptop is that he randomly freezes. It can happened each two days or each 5 minutes. It doesn�t matter what program I�m using. When he freezes, I need to turn him off by pushing the onbutton.
When I want to reboot he refuses. He powers on, but when he should be showing the white Acerlogo screen (splash screen?), before the booting of Windows, nothing happens and the screen stays black.
The only thing I can do is power him off and start over again. But when I power him off, I noticed that at the end, the dvdwriter makes a lot of noise.
Only after a while or a lot of trying (on and off pushing on the button) he boots.
The not appearance of the white Acerlogo screen (splash?) at the beginning of the boot process tells me this isn�t a software problem.
I also have to mention that he went back to the factory 3 times in 3 weeks. The first time the hdd was changed, second time the RAM memory was faulty. The third time, they said they "tested complete system=>system OK No trouble found".
how can i fix this problem?
I have recently deleted my XP partition and attempted reinstalling XP due to degrading performance. Yes I took that way out. While installing, or often before, the power randomly cuts off with no warning at random places. Last time I did this I just had to keep trying all night until one time it worked long enough to install.

my IE6 continually shuts down every minute!!! Im using XP home and have included my hijack log below. When it shuts down, I receive the famous "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Also, the failed file proccess in the details section of the error box is never the same! My problem is that when i restart my pc, it turns off for about 3-5 seconds then delay 2-3 sec and bios starts, then the os. The question is why it shuts down when i restart my pc. Everything has been working fine now for about 6 months(So I'm 3 mos overdo for a crash) since I had to wipe everthing and restart. Last week I had to tape a Digital Video and then edit it using Windows Movie Maker. The storing was very slow but I finally finished the project. Then I decided to tape one last thing on my Nokia N95 (A phone with a very good Carl Zeiss video recorder in it)..................
When I try to use the "Free up space on your hard disk" function, my machine shuts down every time.

I had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. Now every time I restart it, it goes through the same steps and shuts down.
