I have one Windows XP Pro, and one remote Windows 2003 Server. I want to set up a VPN connection between these 2 machines. On each machine, I can connect to the Internet using ADSL or Dial up. Please tell me how to set up VPN server on the Windows 2003 and VPN client on Windows XP. I don't have any experience about VPN before, so I need a details example.
View 5 RepliesI've done virus/spyware etc. scans and it's all clean first of all.I used black vipers startup guide to trim down my services that start on boot and it seems to go pretty quickly and that's all fine.Then when I try double click the icon that brings up my dsl connection it pauses. There doesn't seem to be any disc activity, but when I bring the cursor to the taskbar it turns into an hourglass so obviously it's waiting for something.I've brought up task manager during this and I see that it's loading some more avg components as well as imapi.exe which appears and then disappears.

I ran Belarc on it after I failed at downloading critical updates ( the owner uninstalled some critical updates after they lost internet connection because they thought the update was somehow involved) So I ran belarc and discovered that there are a lot of failed windows update files.
What I am mainly confused about is the way it is partitioned.

C. Drive has Windows on it and D only has two files on it. This doesn't look right to me. So my question is What now??

I burned my first cd the other day.... thats how rubbish I am... new pc has dvd+ -.. so im guessing it can re write... but the problem is that it wont make back ups for my existing dvd collection due to them being protected... I know its illegal to make copies to sell on...I just thought i would be able to make my own for the dvd player in the kids room, because they keep wrecking the originals????? any ideas on how to use my dvd re writer?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue installing Win XP Pro from CD & HD both. I have an 80GB Samsung HD and my 20GB Western Digital that I am using for win98se for my niece. When I put in the 98 bootdisk and boot to floppy with CD Rom Support that goes fine. I goto either my HD (copy of XP Pro) and goto i386 or even my CD copy of XP Pro I goto i386 and type winnt I get the message. Setup cant read from it's information file, file may be corrupt please check with your system administrator. ANY idea how to get around this or what to do here. I am completely at a loss. I had this same issue before but dont remember how I got around it. I been fighting with this for 4 days now and finally give up.

and the subkey DEPENDS ON SERVICE Well, after doing THAT, it not helping and not knowing that I should have backed up anything, I gave up. :banghead: Then I found another exact same used printerand bought that (glutten for punishment), I know but I have lots of ink cartridges, and they're expensive!) NOW, when I try to reinstall the printer I can't. My computer skills are as bad as my cooking skills and I need help if anyone can guide me in plain simple English (hard to find in Miami these days, plain simple English, that is!) Can I manually put this line back in the registry? Can it be put back at all? I searched on my computer and it seems it just disappeared - there's no trace of it. Nothing in the services file, I checked. View 3 Replies View RelatedI just finished a complete reinstall of Windows XP. Before the re-installation, I partitioned the hard drive. I want the basic Windows XP system files and drivers on my "C" drive and then I want to accumulate data files (word processing, spreadsheets, photos, music files, etc.) on the new partition which in this case has been labeled the "G" drive. The difficulty I am having is getting getting the "Documents and Settings" to move over to the "G" drive. So that when I want to load photographs from my camera to the computer it goes for C:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Instead I would like it to go to G:Documents and SettingsMy NameMy DocumentsMy Pictures. Using Windows Explorer I changed the file name of "My Documents" to 'Windows XP old path My Documents" and then I was going to set up a new path to the "G" drive through Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management.
However I noticed that when I clicked on Start in the bottom left hand corner and it puts up that little window that "My Documents" which was listed now had the new title 'Windows XP old path My Documents' which I believe means I haven't gotten to the proper place to change the main configuration for Documents and Settings. Long way of saying how do I change the basic configuration for where Document and Settings are stored to a new location.

I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems

I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went
to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable.In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
I got a Toshiba with windows XP.. Its an older laptop and runs slow.. which is fine for what i need it for.. It is connected through a Dlink Cable modem. Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Once you have downloaded and installed it you must update it and customize the scanning properties so that it scans more thorough.Once it’s installed click on the icon on your desktop and open it to the main screen. You will need to be online to update it, so if you are using a 56K connection you must first connect to your ISP. Now click were it says Check for updates now”, this will connect you to Lavasofts servers and update your definitions. This is the same as updating your antivirus definitions.Now that everything is up to date you need to customize your scanning properties to get the best protection.Now that you are at the main screen click the “Scan now” button, this will take you to a screen that says “Select a scan mode:”, select "Customize" and check "Scan within archives" then "Proceed". Then select "Select" and check all of your drives, "Scan volume for ADS" should be checked now. Now just select "Next".Ad-aware should now be scanning ALL of your drives for any know spyware/malware in its database. Once it has finished scanning it will give you list of everything that it found, REMOVE ALL THAT IT FINDS. Place your cursor on the list of items it finds and right click with your mouse and choose “select all” then click “remove selected items”. This will remove all spyware/malware from your pc.
