Every time i try to access the the device manager from the system properties,i get and error.[IMG][/IMG] then i get this window [IMG][/IMG].
View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing XP With as far as I know latest updates. My Problem is that when I press Ctrl/Alt/Del for my task manager all I get is the LAN AREA CONNECTION box which I am unable to close without a reboot. This started at the same time as a browser hijack which I have now cured, related or coincidence I don`t know. Can anybdy help in getting me back to a fully accessable task manager.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have frequently been getting BSOD that crashes the computer, and it has to reboot. it usually happens in games, or when I try to alt-f4 out of games.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have this one error in my Error Log: "22 February 2005 Service Control Manager The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: i8042prt".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to do some cleanup on my system and needed to rearrange my drive letters. Tried to open Disk manager and an error popped up that said "dependency service or group failed to start." I checked to make sure that the appropriate services were running and tried Disk Manager again. Now it was showing my drives. Got out of Computer Management all together and then went back into Disk Management to verify my settings had taken. I got the same error again and could not see my drives, I exited Computer management and again went back into DM and my drives were now listed again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI ran across this in my device manager and I am not sure what Fips.sys is for. I tried to update driver.....no luck. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall no luck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my usb flash drive to work, and I get this error message. Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer (Code 47). To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again. The only problem is, is that i don't have the device plugged in. I tried uninstalling the device and restarting, but there it is again at the start up. When I plug the device in, the computer will not read it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI get the following message when I go to device manager and look at my cd rom drive, which has an ! on it."A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"Recommended resolution The start type for this driver is set to disabled in the registry. Uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. If the driver is required, and if reinstalling or upgrading does not work, change the start type in the registry using Registry Editor. For more information, see the Registry Reference in the Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit I have done extensive research on this and all the work arounds that have been suggested do not work for me. The only course of action I feel is possible for me is to edit the registry. I have not been able to find any directions on how to do this short of buying microsoft's "Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit" which is suggested in all my research. This book is Hugely expensive.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI hope somebody can help me, please excuse my lack of pc skills!I am getting BSODs every day, usually 2 or 3 when booting up pc then pc runs fine for rest of the day. BSODs have varied but typically (but not always) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP: 0x0000008E or STOP: 0x0000000A. Also, in Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port (COM2) I have a yellow exclamation mark, Code 10 error.I am not sure if these issues are linked.I know it could be a Ram issue but I have run memtest86 with no errors reported.Besides I am reluctant to replace the Ram or motherboard as I wouldn't really know what I was doing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows XP SP2 When I press Ctrl / Alt / Delete the system displays a message saying "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator". I have a stand alone PC not connected to a network so I'm guessing that a rogue piece of software has done this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend just installed XP on his computer using the CD and now, ironically, XP doesn't detect the CD-Rom drive on the system. No CD-Rom drive in either Device Manager, Windows Explorer, or My Computer. The Add Hardware Wizard doesn't detect a CD-rom drive either. All the cables are intact as well. What could be wrong or do I need to provide more specific information on his system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan somebody please help with the following annoying little problem I am encountering? I can't seem to detect and repair the source of the aforementioned titled 'Error Message'. The message reads (exactly) as follows: "The Cfg Registry key denied access to SYSTEM account programs so the Service Control Manager took ownership of the Registry key". It sounds a bit spooky and has got me completely baffled and bemused?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am having some problems with my task manager. i can't seem to open it. and everytime i try.. an error shows up saying that my task manager has been disabled by the administrator.. i wasn't doing anything when that happened. i was only copying some pictures from a digicam. then that error showed up. then when i restarted the computer another error showed up. it said that rvhost.exe cannot be found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP and I recently had a problem with my task manager becoming
disabled. Upon attempting to open task manager I would recieve a message
stating that it had been disabled by my administrator, I am the administrator
and I did not disable the task manager. I corrected this problem and now when
I attempt to open the help menu in the task manager I get a message stating
that the task manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had had 2 operating system on 2 hard drives (XP and Vista) I took vista off and replaced it with media center. I could boot both xp and media center but the vista boot screen always shows up and would have to go into "ealier versions of windows" and choose my OS from there. I read somewhere to get rid of the vista boot screen I should delete "bootmgr" file and "boot" folder from the root of C: I did this and now nothing works. It tries to boot into vista boot screen but it says files are missing and resets
View 3 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Win XP-SP2. I wiped my hard drive due to irresolvable software conflicts. I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.
what should i use i ran tuneup manager and its says my processor is good enough for x 64 windowz should i switch over i have a amd turnion 64 x2
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy device manager is gone! This is a friends computer(all computer specs given are for the computer I am speaking of in this post), so I am not aware of any changes they may have made and I also don't know how long it has been gone. When I go into my control panel / system / hardware / device manager It brings up an internet explorer screen that says the following:I also tried running a Windows search for "Device Manager" and it came back blank. Does anyone have any ideas how a device manager can disappear? I found other posts about Device Managers being empty but no problems quite like mine.

1. Synchronization Manager
2. I see an entry for BHO and don't know what the initials stand for.
When I turn it on my wallpaper comes up on the desktop but no desktop icons or start up bar. Just an arrow. ctl -alt - del does not bring up the task manager. Absolutely nothing can be done. Nothing on the keyboard makes anything work. Is she gone or what? Please help this is my baby here. I tried the recovery disk that doesn't work either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is an article in this month's PC World "Fast Windows Fixes". The first of the fixes suggests that computer performance can be slowed because drivers for devices you no longer have are still being loaded. It provides a way to ensure that Device Manager also lists drivers for devices that are not currently connected, so I set it to do that.I found no device drivers loaded for anything not connected to my system, but DID find what appears to be a strange situation. Under Processors, my CPU is listed TWO times. The properties for both are identical. It looks like one should be deleted (I only have one CPU on the mobo, an Intel P4 Prescott running at 3.0GHz). But this is the MOTHER OF ALL DEVICES on a computer, so before I delete one of the entries, I want to check to see if it's supposed to have two entries. Can I delete one or should both be there?
I think this may have happened because about 10 days ago, I did a FULL reformat on my HD and reinstalled Windows and all 85 updates since the creation of my Windows CD. I also loaded drivers from other CD's that came with the PC, like my Marvell Ethernet card, Soundmax onboard audio, etc., AND the Asus CD containing the Intel 875/865 chipset drivers. I'm wondering if well before I loaded the latter, that Windows already loaded those drivers and the CD loaded them again. BTW, the driver dates in each entry for the CPU in Device Manager is 4/1/04.
I was working on a computer that was extremely slow. It's an older Dell, Win XP SP2, Celeron, only 128 MB RAM. When I opened task manager there were several net.exe and net1.exe processes running. I would end a process and a new one would take its place. I scanned for spyware and viruses. The spyware that was found was cleaned. There were no viruses. When I ran in Safe Mode there were no problems.
