I'm running windows XP SP2 When I press Ctrl / Alt / Delete the system displays a message saying "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator". I have a stand alone PC not connected to a network so I'm guessing that a rogue piece of software has done this.

i am having some problems with my task manager. i can't seem to open it. and everytime i try.. an error shows up saying that my task manager has been disabled by the administrator.. i wasn't doing anything when that happened. i was only copying some pictures from a digicam. then that error showed up. then when i restarted the computer another error showed up. it said that rvhost.exe cannot be found.

I had to use the ctrl+alt+del function for some reason, but when I entered those keys, a message came up that said "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." Ctrl+alt+del has worked previously, as recent as the day before. But for some reason it will not open up. No one in my family messed with the computer controls, at least not purposely. I called the Tech Support for HP, the maker of our computer, and they could not figure out the problem. Their only suggestion was to do a full system restore. I tried with norton and ad-aware, but they also reboot halfway through the scan. My task manager is also disabled, and my background has changed to a blue screen that says something along the lines of: "System Stopped. System has been stopped due to a serious malfunction. Using XP With as far as I know latest updates. My Problem is that when I press Ctrl/Alt/Del for my task manager all I get is the LAN AREA CONNECTION box which I am unable to close without a reboot. This started at the same time as a browser hijack which I have now cured, related or coincidence I don`t know. Can anybdy help in getting me back to a fully accessable task manager.

I was working this morning and I tried to put a flash drive in my usb port (one that I've used forever) and I got the following messages:"Administrator has restricted this computer to access usb/1394 mass storage devices"and "G:/ is not accessable Acess is denied" This is especially troubling for me since I've got to finish working on my syllabi and lessons for school and can't use my flash drive, plus I can't use my ipod, which is really irritating. I thought I was the administrator. I certainly haven't disabled anything at least not on purpose.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a problem lol so i disabled all the accounts except for the administrator because i needed to log on as the admin...so on startup the admin is the only user account available. BUT...i was led to believe that the password was blank so it would log in automatically but it is password protected, but i never set a password for it so im confused as to how to enable my other user accounts. Is there a way to do it in safe mode from the cmd prompt or do i have to just reinstall another windows OS to get it back up and running.

stating that it had been disabled by my administrator, I am the administrator
and I did not disable the task manager. I corrected this problem and now when

A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

I also can't use ctrl-alt-del to get to task administrator (it has been disabled for some reason-was never a prob before so I didn't fix it...) All this happened the next startup after doing a full system scan with norton and a spybot check (the spybot downloaded a few new updates too).

Absolutely nothing can be done. Nothing on the keyboard makes anything work. Is she gone or what? Please help this is my baby here. I tried the recovery disk that doesn't work either.
