My computer and MY Wife's computer are networked and we can share 'MY Documents' from both computers. All was fine until yesterday when she asked "what all all these files here in My Documents" I recognized them as files/folder from MY PC. Apparently our PC's now have duplicates of each others MY Documents' on the others PC. I do not want my wife's documents on my PC and I don't want mine on hers. How do I turn off MS Folder Synchronization ? I recently ungraded to Microsoft Office 2007 and I see this MS Office Groove. Is this the program that is doing this?
this has been an issue on my laptop for awhile and I guess only now am I getting around to figuring it out.Whenever I try to auto sync the time on my computer, no matter which server I choose from the drop down bar, it gives me An error occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable. This is a home computer, and has been an issue connecting from several places on several networks. I tried turning the firewall off but that didn't do it. I read up a little on various forums about this problem, and from what I could pick out that I could understand (I'd say I'm somewhere between Beginner and Intermediately computer savvy) there have been issues with Windows Time in the Services menu. I went into there to check that out (it was my first time in the Services menu) and lo and behold, no Windows Time on the list. Several other Windows XXXXX, but no Windows Time.?
Windows XP would not boot in my wife's old computer off of her hard drive so I booted it off of my installation disk. I then instructed it to repair the windows already installed. When prompted I entered her key and it appeared to be completing the installation. I am presently trying to activate windows XP on my wife's computer by clicking Start > All Programs > Activate Windows but the activation window does not open and shortly there after I get the error message:"Microsoft Feeds Synchronization has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience" presumably preventing Windows XP activation. Even entering "oobe/msoobe /a" in the Run window does not launch the activation window which I once again presume is blocked by the error message.
when i go to the time settings and click on "Update Now" on the "Internet Time" tab, i get an error message saying that Windows can not synchronize the time. I checked the even viewer and found the following related error messages.
I have Windows XP and I recently had a problem with my task manager becoming disabled. Upon attempting to open task manager I would recieve a message stating that it had been disabled by my administrator, I am the administrator and I did not disable the task manager. I corrected this problem and now when I attempt to open the help menu in the task manager I get a message stating that the task manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.
A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.
My device manager is gone! This is a friends computer(all computer specs given are for the computer I am speaking of in this post), so I am not aware of any changes they may have made and I also don't know how long it has been gone. When I go into my control panel / system / hardware / device manager It brings up an internet explorer screen that says the following:I also tried running a Windows search for "Device Manager" and it came back blank. Does anyone have any ideas how a device manager can disappear? I found other posts about Device Managers being empty but no problems quite like mine.
When I turn it on my wallpaper comes up on the desktop but no desktop icons or start up bar. Just an arrow. ctl -alt - del does not bring up the task manager. Absolutely nothing can be done. Nothing on the keyboard makes anything work. Is she gone or what? Please help this is my baby here. I tried the recovery disk that doesn't work either.
i have windows xp pro now and i was setting up another user account but when i get on the user account it has a continuous popup saying "failed to get service control manager".
There is an article in this month's PC World "Fast Windows Fixes". The first of the fixes suggests that computer performance can be slowed because drivers for devices you no longer have are still being loaded. It provides a way to ensure that Device Manager also lists drivers for devices that are not currently connected, so I set it to do that.I found no device drivers loaded for anything not connected to my system, but DID find what appears to be a strange situation. Under Processors, my CPU is listed TWO times. The properties for both are identical. It looks like one should be deleted (I only have one CPU on the mobo, an Intel P4 Prescott running at 3.0GHz). But this is the MOTHER OF ALL DEVICES on a computer, so before I delete one of the entries, I want to check to see if it's supposed to have two entries. Can I delete one or should both be there?
I think this may have happened because about 10 days ago, I did a FULL reformat on my HD and reinstalled Windows and all 85 updates since the creation of my Windows CD. I also loaded drivers from other CD's that came with the PC, like my Marvell Ethernet card, Soundmax onboard audio, etc., AND the Asus CD containing the Intel 875/865 chipset drivers. I'm wondering if well before I loaded the latter, that Windows already loaded those drivers and the CD loaded them again. BTW, the driver dates in each entry for the CPU in Device Manager is 4/1/04.
I was working on a computer that was extremely slow. It's an older Dell, Win XP SP2, Celeron, only 128 MB RAM. When I opened task manager there were several net.exe and net1.exe processes running. I would end a process and a new one would take its place. I scanned for spyware and viruses. The spyware that was found was cleaned. There were no viruses. When I ran in Safe Mode there were no problems.
Alright the last few days my computers been very slow, whenevr i hit ctrl+alt+delete the cpu usage that is is showing oin my computer is 100% is there a vius or spyware that causes this?
In my previous topic i thought i had solved my problem although now this error comes up on start up you can check it hear > http://forums.techguy.org/t318684.html
Pressing CTRL, ALT, DELETE does not start task manager and there is no error msg.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was working with tech service to get my wireless router back up and running. after control panel, system, device manager would not come up. or if i tried again and again it would pop up and disappear.
When something won't exit I hit Ctrl alt delete and the task manager comes up just keeps repeating itself in the log that appears. Like about 20 to 30 times. I have to toggle my system off and sometimes shut off on the power surger. I hope this question makes sense to someone.
I clicked some virus and opened it like a idiot I need smoe help removing it. Everytime I CTRL+ALT+DELETE, the task manager comes up then its killed for some reason. The same happened for when yuou try and bring up the *forgot the name* thing to make everythiung smaller on the harddrive to get more room.I have looked at several things to try and get rid of this virus, but its not working.
