i am trying tio install Windows XP Pro, the original OP/S is Win 2000, every time i put in the disc, i click on install and i get the message "This program is blocked" Then underneath that it says , "Check on line to see if solutions are available".Copuld any one tell me how to get round this problem. I have downloaded, a new batch of .jpg files from a trustworthy site that I have been using without any problem for a couple of years. With the latest batch of files I find that whenever I try to open any one with PaintShop Pro, I get an Open File - Security Warning asking me if I really want to open it from an unknown publisher.
If I check the file's properties, I find it is blocked. I can unblock each file individually, either by changing the property or by checking an option on the Security Warning.
I can see no reason for this happening suddenly. I have found various possible solutions proposed (but for slightly different environments or file-types), but they do not work for me. Is there any really proven solution for either preventing the blocking in the first place or removing the block en block?
i blocked my ad's but now i want it all back to normal, can someone help me fix this?

I did for a while activate the "prompt" alternative on Favorites/Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced to block unwanted cookies. Then I blocked cookies from a site that I usually visit, marking the "always." option. The result was that I was blocked from entering the site. I then reversed all of my previous actions, letting the browser deal automatically with cookies as it saw fit (greying out all the rest of the alternatives on that window), restarted the computer and returned to the site. But all I get is a pop-up saying "You must activate cookies on your browser", at various stages, sometimes after I give the password and all, sometimes as soon as the home window comes up. I repeated all the a/m actions several times, but with the same result. I have XP with SP2, IE6, Pentium d.

View 14 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden I can not download any programs, music files etc. I just get the above message in my Mozilla Firefox download screen. The same thing happened when I tried Internet Explorer.
I am running Windows XP and using Firefox 3.0.1. The problem is that Download blocked by Security Zone Policy, I have gone into the Internet section of control panel and reduced the zone protection to the minimum. I have turned the firewall in McAfee off. These actions did not have any effect. I am not aware of any other program on my computer that would cause this to happen. I use Sypware Doctor, but I disabled that also. My computer is set to load Windows updates automatically and that would be the only software updated I might have loaded.
For some unknown reason my anti virus will not update as it says there is no connection that it could find to update with, which I find rather suspicious. I could neither access ANY antivirus websites either. ex www.grisoft.com, www.mcafee.com, www.symantec.com.
So I done a clean install formatting my hard drive fully and starting from scratch. And to my fear I still could not access ANY antivirus sites still.
I had only installed AVG Free and Firefox. Even before I connected the net to the computer I put AVG on just to be safe and it still would not update.
I frequently visited an investment site, then suddenly I started receiving "this page cannot be displayed" messages, and down in the lower left it said Unknown zone instead of Internet when I tried to connect.. do you know which setting has been changed, or could one of my kids accidentally have blocked this site

It was a fake site that looked like Internet Explore virus protection, and it said to start scan now. I didn't and just closed it and thought everything was fine. The next day I tried to log on and it just went back to the log on screen. It said logging off. I kept on trying and it did the same thing over and over. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked

I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to do a fresh install of MS xp pro. The problem is I have a newer version of xp installed right now and the xp cd i have is a older version( legit cd). Because of that it won't let me re-install xp using the older cd. I do have sp2 just on a different cd. So how can I go about doing a fresh install? The reason i'm doing this is because my computer is running sluggish and I want to start over sort of speak. Any ideas what I need to do? I have the bios to boot from cd. I also get a error message that the NTLDER is missing. I've been on other forums and so far no help from them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to reinstall a fresh, liscenced copy of XP (sp2), but when I get the windows disc to boot, my keyboard won't work. I've tried to keep in both the usb port and to use the adapter to stick it into the dedicated keyboard slot - no luck with either. Do I have a driver issue? Under admnistrative tools/computer management/keyboards/hid keyboard device/driver/driver details, I have two different driver entries: the highlighted one on top says WINDOWS/system32/DRIVERS/kbdclass.sys and the unhighlighted one below it says WINDOWS/system32/DRIVERS/kbdhid.sys. I seem to remember adding or updating my keyboard driver at some point, but I'm not entirely sure. Can I/should I restore the kbdhid.sys driver, and if so, how do I do that exactly? Do I have some other issue? A USB driver issue perhaps? I have a number of different usb drivers as well.
As a corollary, when booting with a bootable disc (the XP disc and with my BIOS set to boot from disc first), the program asks to hit any key to boot from disc. With my keyboard plugged in normally (to the usb port), I get no response at that stage. Using the adapter, plugged into the dedicated keyboard spot, I CAN get a response, but then get no response (from either usb or dedicated keyboard connector.) when the XP disc boots up to the blue option screen.My computer knowledge is adequate but not extensive. I did build my system, but it was my first build.
I'm doing a fresh xp install on an older hp ze5700. I am able to get the machine to recognize the cd drive initially and go thru the install up until it has to reboot to set up windows. then it seems the laptop does not recoginze the cd drive and freezes on the 'setting up windows' part.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got some virus which kept on duplicating, so my AVG antivirus could not permanently delete. So I did a clean reinstall of Windows XP Pro 32 bit with a full reformat. It is still very buggy. Some of the bugs even resemble the errors I was having before the reinstall. There were things like "could not load cmd.exe", AVG antivirus marking almost every Window's .exe as a Heur virus, "could not load login because of data execution prevention", and programs like Windows Media Player 11 and Visual Studio not being able to be completely installed.
Should I be concerend that this is a hardware issue? The harddrive should be OK because a full format should have detected bad sectors. Maybe my RAM is damaged?
