File Recovery

Apr 5, 2010

I would like to ask if I can recover a file that I accidently wrote over? I have been writing my business plan for 2 weeks and yesterday accidently selected an old file, saved it and loss a great deal of my recent information. Needless to say, I am terribly upset with myself as I had not printed, or hand wrote anything. I've had been saving every 15 minutes on my hard drive and thumb drive, I just didn't realize that I have over-written the most recent file.

File Recovery For A *.bkf Backup

Jan 5, 2008

Before re-installing the XP operating system on my Dell desktop, a backup of the system (using the Windows System Utilities) was saved to an external hard drive. Then Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 Service Pack 2 was re-installed. The *.bkf on the external hard drive was accidentally deleted. There was a warning that it was too large to go to the Recycle Bin before it was deleted. I want to un-delete and restore this *.bkf or at least get as many of the *.jpg files (digital photos) out of it. Is there some file retrieve program that will deal specifically with .bkf files given that it is so large (many GBs)? One program we tried didn't locate any *.bkf files.

Reliable File Recovery?

Jun 9, 2006

i am here today, on behalf of my poor mother. she has a nightmare job and, to finally push her over the edge... her company's tech people came in to upgrade her computer to '2000' (i am not sure what she meant, windows 2000 or just OFFICE 2000) and THEY told her "oh no, we shouldn't need to back up anything--" ...WELL don't ya just know, they lost the CRITICAL data on her system, whether it was the whole system or out of lotus, etc.! i don't have my hopes up, but can anyone recommend ANY program that might help restore the system or recover just the "office" information? i will be grateful for any suggestions, though it might be better if it's something i can get at like a local national chain (staples, bestbuy, whatever) b/c downloading a program off the internet she might overwrite more of the data, right?

A local recovery service salvaged directories and 100K+ files, but most files contain binary 0's.

Encrypted File Recovery Error

Aug 25, 2005

My pc power supply blew up, and damaged all my drives, and other parts. I found a similar h/d for sale, that had bad sectors, and swapped the circuit board and the drive now works again.BUT, it does not boot, so I connected it as a second drive, and got access to basically all my files. However, any attempts to get it to boot again have not worked, so I cannot access my encrypted data files.I suspect that since only the first few tracks were damaged (?) the private encryption key is somewhere else on the drive (like the two fats, etc)is this assumption wrong? If true, is there a specific s/w package that could "rebuild" my drive, or at least pick up the second copy of this "key" and help me open the files?

Unmountable Volume - Can't Launch Recovery Console Through Recovery Disc?

Sep 5, 2008

Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,
