Windows Server 2003 Standard - Fax Services & XP Home/Pro clients
I installed the Fax Services and shared the Fax on the Win2K3 Server. I was able to see it and install it on the WinXP Home PC. The only time I saw an error was when I was accessing the Send Fax Wizard on the WinXP Home Fax Client PC. As soon as I clicked off the "Welcome to Send Fax Wizard" intro page I got the message: "Send Fax Wizard", "Fax server information can not be retrieved" The Local Fax (Modem) works fine on the Windows XP Home/Pro PCs and the Windows Server 2003 PC The problem is the Windows XP Home/Pro PCs can not send a fax to the shared fax on the Windows Server 2003 PC. I noticed that on XP Home/Pro PCs in the Fax Console there is a red "X" in the middle of the status bar at the bottom.
I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it
I am currently working on a project and I am in need of a way to run applications off of a central server from an XP client. The applications that need to be run are from the Microsoft Office package. This is for a school project, if more information is needed I can try to provide it
I'm looking at setting up windows 2003 terminal servers all over the place to replace the awful thing people are currently doing here - vncing servers with one small shared password among everyone <holding my hands over my ears for the backlash>. Don't blame me, it's another awful legacy I have to get rid of...
1. I've got to set up a Terminal Server Licensing server and was thinking about putting this on my second domain controller. I was wondering what would happen in this server dies, though. Is there some way of having resilience in this scenario? Perhaps a second Licensing server or something, the way you have 2 or more Domain Controllers?
When I start System Information (msinfo32.msc) it gives me, in the info panel, the following message: Can't collect information Cannot access the Windows Management Informationsoftware. Windows Mangement files might be moved or missing. I checked if the WMI service is not disabled (it is automatically started, the default).In Microsoft Mangement Console, under Services and Application, I have WMI Control. R-click, properties, and: Failed to connect to <local computer> because "Interface: class not registered"
I have a friend who's computer keeps giving him a bluescreen, and it doesnt show any information other than the stop code, and it says A thread crucial to windows has unexpectedly been terminated. I've researched the code and not many people have much information regarding it...Heres the code 0x000000F4, (0x00000003, 0x89134020, 0x89134194, 0x8060566e) we've checked the ram, its fine. i cant really get over to his house and replace the cable, live in two different cities, and hes kind of illiterate when it comes to this stuff. any help or info will be greatly appreciated,
I am so tired of this stupid information bar appearing every time I do something on the internet. I am a very smart computer user, so I really don't need to get all of these warnings.Thing is, I have no clue how to completely turn it off. It seems like MS completely integrated it into IE, which is what I hate. I don't want to switch to Firefox, so don't ask.
I notices there more than 20+ informations in the security event log once I turn on the computer. Most of them is successful logon/logoff. What exactly is logging on and off?? Or what services is logging on and off??? The reason is I have another computer running XP Professional, and and the same setting as this one (only one user "Computer Administrator"), and the security event log in my XP Pro system is clean, no informations whatsoever. How can I find out who or what services is doing logon/logoff during system boot up. Basically I would like to eliminate those services and have a clean security event log

I am trying to setup a small program so that I can login to client computers across the internet, using winvnc.I am trying to write a batch file that will start the program and then issue a command to the program to tell it what to connect to.My problem is that the program comes up and then the batch file just stops, it does not goto the next line until the program is closed.What do I need to enter to force it to read the next line without having to close the program? simple little batch file will read as follows.
I'm in the process of backing up a lot of DVD files, some of which are very large. First I extract the information from one DVD, then burn it onto a new one. After I'm done filling up a new DVD, I then delete all the information from my computer. In all, I'll end up with around 50 DVDs. In case I have to do System Restore sometime, I've been creating a new restore point after completing around five DVDs so my computer, if in that situation, won't have to restore a lot of files I don't need anymore. This is creating a lot of restore points and my question is: am I doing the right thing? Will creating all these restore points cause some sort of problem?
i get one problem sorted with screwed up ram and another bites me. i think i'll either become a computer tech guy or gain a computer phobia. Ok, so my problem is this;
1. my wireless software and hardware seems to work fine but can't find my hub to gain access to. 2. It says that if i have used another program to access the connection use it. Although i have not.!! 3. I went into advanced settings and clicked use windows to access...didn't work. 4 I disabled and enabled the other settings to kick start my connection. . 5. however there is a connection and i do have data transfer but no connection. 6.i am still getting the same response, which is;
No ip address or any other information regarding my connection.
I have recently upgraded to the latest version of MSN Messenger and started experiencing some ill effects from the upgrade. My user account on my computer will no longer store my passport information (for me or any other account on my machine). I have checked all of the settings in MSNM to make sure that nothing is set there, and there isn't. I have also gone through the wizard to setup the accounts for a .net pasport, and still doesn't seem to be working.
Today I tried to access my System Information and came across a problem which said It could not access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Can someone help me repair this since I really want this fixed.
I need some info on Norton Ghost 9.0. I have a 40 GB hard disk where I have installed Windows XP with SP2 and all the updates and will put all the necessary software like office 2003, Norton antivirus and bla bla bla I might need.Can I take an image of this hard disk and save it on a DVD or something and then can I restore the entire DVD on the same hard disk or any other hard disk (this is important to restore the image to another hard disk).
Up until a couple of weeks ago, there was a site, blackviper.com that had some darned good information on how to make Windows XP work best for you... (Such as, learning all the processes in task manager and which ones you need.) But, as of late, his site is down. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm not sure this is the right forum.
I am running out of space on my 40gb hard drive and desperately need to install a larger one.Does anyone know of a program that will help me to get the info from my drive to the new drive.
I've got a friend's puter here to fix. She had gotten it from her dad, and when I tried to install Ad-Aware, it has her fathers name in 'Full Name'. The puter is still listed as registered to him, can I change this to her name?
I run WinXP Pro SP2, and when I initiate the following sequence: Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information the Help and Support Center Window comes up. This also happens with Start -> Run -> msinfo32

Specifically, When on the Logon Screen there is information pertaining to the Users Unread Email Information. I have changed to a new email address (because of SPAM). I would like to activate so it sees the new email account and reflects accurate number of unread messages. (I have been helped by someone earlier to remove the old email info...but need help to put on the new info.) Any suggestions?
I've read here that IIS cannot be installed on XP Home Edition, so OK to that. But is there some other (Free?) non-Windows utility that I can install on my XP operating system that will do the same thing for me?

I'm formatting and doing a clean install of XP Pro for a friend on her computer. I've saved everything she intends to keep to other partitions to restore or copy back later on; however....
I know that XP stores usernames and passwords someplace within the 'forms' area of the registry and I'm wondering if anybody knows where that would be located so I can extract and save that as well. I believe that by saving all of her online cookies that once brought back to the new install that information should be already embedded for her, is that correct?
