Alternative Of Internet Information Services On Xp?
Aug 25, 2005
I've read here that IIS cannot be installed on XP Home Edition, so OK to that. But is there some other (Free?) non-Windows utility that I can install on my XP operating system that will do the same thing for me?

I have been fixing a computer with more spyware than you could imagine on it. Its all clean now , all trojans and spyware removed, however in the process of removing these nasties, the computer has now lost its ability to connect to the internet. Networks fine, all obvious things have been checked, firewall, proxies you name it. Is there a way to re-install the internet connectivity services and files?

I am looking for now is a program where I can log into their
computer without having them logged off, so they can actually see what
I am doing (and I don’t have to repeat it all over the phone).
Does anyone have a suggestion what prog I can use for that? (or a link
to a side would be also great)
Have been searching for the web for hours but I guess my English just
doesn’t provide me with the right keywords to get any results I can
use.
On this site I found a similiar thread:
http://www.windowsforumz.com/-Remo [...] 86507.html
but that is for Shadowing w’ Win2003 Server and I have on both
computers WinXP.
Any suggestions would be just great!

Explorer seems like it likes to crash randomly. I've already ran chkdsk and no problems were found. Now, with my experience with chkdsk at my IT job, it doesn't always do the job. So I was wondering if there was a program that could.
-I am free of spyware to the best of my knowledge
-I run CCleaner daily to get rid of useless files.
-I defrag every so often

Since I started using XP, I noticed that games performance was terrible. Idle CP load stayed at around 12% all the time. This lead to jerky graphics, choppy sound, every game I tried was the same, even DVD playback suffered. I tried the tweak http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=822but I didn't see any difference. If you also experience this problem and have a Zip drive, here's how I solved it.1.Right click "My Computer"2.Select "Manage"3.Click on "Device Manager"4.Double click on your Zip under "Disk Drives" ( it may be listed as "IMG VP01" or something similar - pick the one that's not a hard drive)5.Disable the deviceIf you then need to use the Zip drive, simply re-enable it by following similar steps. This worked fine for me, XP is now as fast as 98

Are there any more sophisticated packages out there that can connect to standard Remote Desktop enabled Windows machine?I need to connect to several remote computers on a regular basis, and would like something that would remember my login settings for each one of them. The standard Remote Desktop Connection client that come with Windows 2000 only seems to remember the settings for *one* connection. (Or are there perhaps some call arguments that I could put into the shortcut, in order to define certain login parameters?)

I have replaced my hard drive completely. One thing I really miss about my old setup was that I had Roxio disc copier, which really came in handy for my job. Since I no longer have the application CD that it came on, I am slightly SOL and have to spend a lot of time burning copies from media player.Does anyone know of a simple, free program that will allow me to copy a disc that is in the D: drive to a blank one in the E: drive?

After removed serveral spywares, I cannot launch the services.msc (Computer management still fine, but not service page) along with "Help and support" from start menu. Also pressing F3 key in Explorer for "Find" function with result close down of explorer.exe.They seems startup for a split second and then close itself without notice. My guess is it has something to do with HTML/DHTML pages.

I have installed multiple VPN softwares on my Windows XP SP2 these months to access my corporate network, and they seemed work fine, but, may be, some of them were not compatible with XP SP2. I recently started wireless networking as well, and I thought some VPN softwares disturbed my wireless networking sometimes and I have decided to uninstall those VPN softwares.I had some difficulties to uninstall them, but at last I have uninstalled them. Now, I cannot see "IPSEC Services" in my services window at all. I can see "lsass.exe" under C:WINDOWSsystem32 directory. However, I do not know how to re-create "IPSEC Services".

I am so tired of this stupid information bar appearing every time I do something on the internet. I am a very smart computer user, so I really don't need to get all of these warnings.Thing is, I have no clue how to completely turn it off. It seems like MS completely integrated it into IE, which is what I hate. I don't want to switch to Firefox, so don't ask.

Just wondering. When I set BITS, Background Intelligent Transfer Service to automatic & started using services.msc, after a while, maybe days later, it goes back to manual & stopped. When I look at http://www.theeldergeek.com/background_intelligent_transfer_service.htm it seems to suggest that I could set it either way. Since I never seem to get windows update automatically, although I do get them manually, I just wanted to try this setting to see if it would work for me. . Running win xp pro, sp2, dell dimension 2350, 1 GB mem, 2.0 GHz, cable modem. Usually run daily auto scans with MSAB & AVG7. Also have AdawareSE, Spybot, Spyware Blaster.

The last couple of days, my computer randomly gives me an error messages that says SERVICES.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created. Then, a shut down box pops up that tells me my computer will shut down in one minute... and there's a timer on there that counts down and when the minute is up, my computer shuts itself down and restarts.I've run Adaware, Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, and cleared my temporary internet files, etc. It's still doing it, and it's getting on my nerves because I can't get ANY work done. It's doing this like ever 30 minutes or hour or so.

I just want to be able to remove some photos and documents and then I can wipe the HD clean and start over.I have used Safe Mode to try and return the Services to their Defaults, but I'm not being allowed to do anything that would help me, either when I log on as myself or I log on as adminstrator, the only 2 users of this computer. My connection to the internet is via satellite, and I assume that company has Permissions to also change Services.
