View 1 RepliesWe had pcguard as the defences provided by blueyonder, our broadband provide,r for about a year and it worked very well. They then announced a new version and when I downloaded it, the windows were too small for the screens behind them and the procedure was unusable. I asked blueyonder for help but ended up with a frozen pc. I managed to restart it myself and then, tried to uninstall the new pcguard but it won't go away. There is a possibility to instal a new version of the pcguard, but it will not install because the former version will not go. The computer has been behaving strangely since. e.g. :
1] Saying it has to configure HP1Z423 for some things like email or internet, which it did not do before.
2] Starting up in something which looks a bit like safe mode screen, but when enter is pressed, it starts up normally.
This is a malware disguising as an anti-virus software. This thing is pure evil, it simply can't not be gotten rid off. I have tried restoring my system, I have used LavaSoft's Ad-Aware, AVG, SpyHunter and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which has worked the best but still has not eradicated the vermin. I have found the Registry line for this thing but it can not delete and I have full permission on the computer and it is set to permission for everyone. Anytime I try moving or deleting this thing I just get an error message. Worse yet I hooked up my ipod to the computer and now I think the virus is is my Ipod. So will I have to toss out my Ipod because it might infect any thing I hook it up too?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop with window xp. A few days ago while online several pop-up windows kept coming up and among them Spyware Guard 2008 came up and said there was security threats/alerts. At that point we tried the trail scan, it identified 200 threats and advised to remove the threats. We removed the threats, however since then Spyware Guard continues to pop up and scan during every start up. We havn't purchased this and can't remove from our start up remove. More importantly, since this episode our laptop 99% of the time completly freezes and won't even start

View 14 Replies View Relateda program called "System Guard 2008" has installed itself. It slowed down quite a bit and eventually crashed on me. Now it wont boot up all the way. I turn it on, it will get all the way to the Windows password screen, then once I enter my password and click on the green arrow, I get a warning message that my paginf file is either non existant or too small. Then once I click "OK" on that warning message, the screen blacks out, restarts the boot process, gets to the password screen, and that cycle just continues over and over. Ive tried to boot into safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration

I have a friend who's computer keeps giving him a bluescreen, and it doesnt show any information other than the stop code, and it says A thread crucial to windows has unexpectedly been terminated. I've researched the code and not many people have much information regarding it...Heres the code

we've checked the ram, its fine. i cant really get over to his house and replace the cable, live in two different cities, and hes kind of illiterate when it comes to this stuff. any help or info will be greatly appreciated,
I am so tired of this stupid information bar appearing every time I do something on the internet. I am a very smart computer user, so I really don't need to get all of these warnings.Thing is, I have no clue how to completely turn it off. It seems like MS completely integrated it into IE, which is what I hate. I don't want to switch to Firefox, so don't ask.
Are there any command(s) that will output PC information?
Ex:
PC name
MAC address
IP
IP static (yes/no)
Amount of RAM
Processor Mhz
I notices there more than 20+ informations in the security event log once I turn on the computer. Most of them is successful logon/logoff. What exactly is logging on and off?? Or what services is logging on and off??? The reason is I have another computer running XP Professional, and and the same setting as this one (only one user "Computer Administrator"), and the security event log in my XP Pro system is clean, no informations whatsoever. How can I find out who or what services is doing logon/logoff during system boot up. Basically I would like to eliminate those services and have a clean security event log

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of backing up a lot of DVD files, some of which are very large. First I extract the information from one DVD, then burn it onto a new one. After I'm done filling up a new DVD, I then delete all the information from my computer. In all, I'll end up with around 50 DVDs. In case I have to do System Restore sometime, I've been creating a new restore point after completing around five DVDs so my computer, if in that situation, won't have to restore a lot of files I don't need anymore. This is creating a lot of restore points and my question is: am I doing the right thing? Will creating all these restore points cause some sort of problem?

I have recently upgraded to the latest version of MSN Messenger and started
experiencing some ill effects from the upgrade. My user account on my
computer will no longer store my passport information (for me or any other
account on my machine). I have checked all of the settings in MSNM to make
sure that nothing is set there, and there isn't. I have also gone through
the wizard to setup the accounts for a .net pasport, and still doesn't seem
to be working.
Today I tried to access my System Information and came across a problem which said It could not access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Can someone help me repair this since I really want this fixed.

View 20 Replies View RelatedUp until a couple of weeks ago, there was a site, blackviper.com that had some darned good information on how to make Windows XP work best for you...
(Such as, learning all the processes in task manager and which ones you need.)
But, as of late, his site is down. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm not sure this is the right forum.
I am running out of space on my 40gb hard drive and desperately need to install a larger one.Does anyone know of a program that will help me to get the info from my drive to the new drive.

Can anybody tell me how to add the user account logon information?
Specifically, When on the Logon Screen there is information pertaining to the Users Unread Email Information. I have changed to a new email address (because of SPAM). I would like to activate so it sees the new email account and reflects accurate number of unread messages. (I have been helped by someone earlier to remove the old email info...but need help to put on the new info.) Any suggestions?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've read here that IIS cannot be installed on XP Home Edition, so OK to that. But is there some other (Free?) non-Windows utility that I can install on my XP operating system that will do the same thing for me?
You know how sometimes in cop shows or shows that have police investigations in them, they look somewhere on a computer to find out where the user has been on the internet or what he/she has been doing. I know about (but it doesn't show everything, seemingly):C:Documents and Settings(owners name)Local SettingsHistory
I'm formatting and doing a clean install of XP Pro for a friend on her computer. I've saved everything she intends to keep to other partitions to restore or copy back later on; however....
I know that XP stores usernames and passwords someplace within the 'forms' area of the registry and I'm wondering if anybody knows where that would be located so I can extract and save that as well. I believe that by saving all of her online cookies that once brought back to the new install that information should be already embedded for her, is that correct?
Heres a real test. What or where is there information about hard drive recovery particularly "fdisk" and then 3% into formatting on XP os?
