When I open 1 Particular Folder on my computer I get this screen Error Message that reads: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for this inconvience. Please tell microsoft about this problem! Within the Error Screen is an Option to "Debug" the system, which I'm not exactly sure what its for.
Shortly after I open IE7, I suddenly get an error: DeBug Assertion, and something about Visual Basic C++. Then IE Explorer is frozen and I have to close and reopen it, but then the same thing happens. I tried to restore to a previous time, but it does not work, and then I ran Registry Mechanic and I am still getting the error.
My laptop will not boot into windows at all. not into safe mode, or any other option i'm given. It gets to the windows logo and crashes, a quick flash of a bluescreen which i can't see the error, and restarts. I also do not have the option to disable the restart so i can see this code too.I booted the windows recovery and at the DOS prompt i tried doing chckdsk, fixboot, fixmbr.
I have an ongoing probem that I'm still trying to fix, one thing I have done is used Revo uninstaller to remove McAfee which I thought might be a problem. It removed all traces of McAfee and this and also seems to have taken system restore point with it!When I open system restore I just a blank screen.

It says an error message and asks to "debug". I click "no". It then says "Otto not responding, you will be returned to Media Center". Then thats done but I dont know how to close it using the keyboard or mouse.
After browsing through many of the threads here I have decided to post my own as I am unable to come to any conclusions. MSI, Pentium 4 1.9GHz, 2x60 GB HD (Maxtor ???), 2x256MD DDR-266, It won't boot at all - none of the F8 boot options work, which I have tried several times after recieving the following error
i had XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message; STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.
When I'm trying to start up Windows XP Home Edition I receive an error box without an error message, I can just click YES or NO. Neither option let's me continue. When starting up in Safe Mode, everything works fine.
Encountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?
i was messing with some settings in a debug user account group my main user. And i changed something in the registry and had to suddenly shut down. So i start up again and could not get in at all. Any hints? I am currently using my admin account but all my important folders are on that user!! How can i get them back?

I've got something going on with my Laptop, but I can't put my finger on it. For the last few weeks, the PC has slowed to a sluggish crawl and now I'm getting C++ Debug Errors while running Internet Explorer.
I will be more specific with the Error code the next time it happens

I've been having this problem with my Dell Lattitude D505 Laptop where I put it on standby, and then about 10 seconds after taking it off standby, I get a blue error screen telling me the system crashed. It mentions on the screen something about BIOS memory. Looking through some other posts, I have seen mention of a correlation between this screen and BIOS. does anyone think that this BIOS memory thing is in fact the problem? How do I resolve anything that deals with this BIOS memory? The help section on my computer just defines what BIOS is, it doesn't state where I can find it on my comp.
I left my computer on for about 3 hours, when I returned the screen was black with the a message First time this happened INVALID System Disk Replace Disk and then press any key There is or was no 3 1/2 floppy disk in the computer. Every time I hit any key nothing would happen. When I would reboot I would get to the same screen with the same message and nothing would happen. Then I would reboot again and when that screen would come our I would insert a 3 1/2 Floppy into the computer and the computer would start up. So now the only time I can get the computer to start up I must insert a 3 1/2 floppy.
I have a dell laptop inspiron8600 with Windows XP and SP2. I recently get the same blue screen error every time i start my computer.IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP: 0*0000000A(0*F89181C0, 0*00000002, 0*00000001, 0*804D9BBA) I ran the dell dianostic test for blue screen errors but everything was fine. Does anyone know the reason for that problem and/or a solution for it.
At work today I was running a program in windows by typing:> clustalw.exe file.txtat the command prompt. On this computer, clustal.exe takes file.txt as an argument, processes it, and exits. I tried doing the same thing on my home computer (also windows XP) and it says:"/file.txt" is not an option.

How to set up my screensaver so that it scrolls thru all my pictures in "my pictures" folder. I've done so, but there's quite a delay between pictures, it doesn't seem like it's showing pictures from the whole folder, sometimes the pictures are very small off to one corner, and in-between pictures the screen is blank for a bit and usually has a symbol on it such as a musical note, "exit", a figure running, etc. My friend seems to have hers set up the same way, but it doesn't have these problems. It just scrolls thru her pictures, one after the other, with the pictures taking up the whole screen.
I have had two video cards in this machine (Windows XP Home SP2) in the past for a dual screen setup.Today I put in a 2nd video card again (as the one that was in there previously has gone walk-about) but I dont have the option in windows for the 2nd screen.Everything appears fine in device manager (the screen that is working is the PCI ViRAGE one), as for the GeForce - well the light on the monitor comes on but doesnt display a picture, but in display properties there is no option for the 2nd card. (see attached screenshot)
My system was working fine until I installed XP SP2. I am having trouble with a Blue Screen Error "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" I believe NVGTS.SYS is the culprit ? I have had to boot in safe made with network to come here to try and get help. Can someone please give me a suggestion as to what might be the issue? I am trying to install this on a new system build, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz, EVGA NForce 780i SLI, 2 gigs of OCz DDR 2 800, Nvidia 8800GTS (G92) 512mb 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 x-16, WD 74 gig Raptor, Liteon 20X DVDR. Thank you~David
I came back home yesterday night to see my brother (again) bug the hell out of my computer I don't know if he installed something wrong or delete a file or whatever He did something I can't fix myself(I usually fix pc problems myself)Like I said, on the title,Start > run (gone),I can't shutdown my pc without clicking on Logoff.I only have one user account, which is me/admin
I am running XP SP2 and when I try to run Disk Cleanup (from menu or command prompt) I immediately get a popup telling me "Disk Space Cleanup Manager for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" with the option to send and error report to Microsoft. This started happening after I added additional memory to my PC. I am not having any problems with other programs. I successfully ran a Disk Cleanup late last week. I tried removing the VolumeCaches entry from the registry and that did not fix the problem.
Not sure what brought this on but today when I did a reboot to get reconnected to my network, the f8 boot option screen appeared. I selected 'normal' which failed ending back at the boot option screen. However, I can boot in safe mode (or safe with networking). I have tried eliminating things by using msconfig but I have not had any luck. One clue may be that while booting, the MS logo screen appears as normal for about 15 seconds and then I see a blue screen flash just for an instant. I have only managed to read the word 'detected' on it. System immedietly goes to blank screen and does a hdw boot. Boot never gets to the GUI interface. Is there some way to stop the system when an error is detected or a way to log errors? Am I correct in assuming that a hardware problem is not too likely if system runs in safe mode?
I'm having this problem with windows xp pro fresh install onto sataHD.
