I do document conversions. I work with MS Word files anywhere from 6MB to 23MB in size. If I reboot the computer and start a processing task I get no hangs. However, the longer I work on a task like a "find and replace", the slower the computer's processing gets and then I run out of virtual memory. When run out of virtual memory, I can no longer save the file.
Is there a way to reset or empty out the memory of my computer system without rebooting the system? I can copy and paste a small amount of text like a comma, but that does not help the memory problem. Edited to correct spelling error.
I upgrade HP computer to new Dell computer. I put HP's hard disk to Dell computer. The system is keeping reboot. I put back to HP computer, then the hard disk is working fine. How can I fix the problem? Dell is Pentium 4 2.8GHz with Intel System Chipset HP is Pentium 3 500MHz with Intel System Chipset too. The OS is Windows XP Pro with SP2
Just in the past two months I have had a problem with something using all of my memory I thought at first it was Oulook when I close it I am at 1.93GB memory and it hangs there it seems to happen when I have two or three programs up at the same time as well. Rebooting will bring everything back to normal. I have run all of Nortons programs and it seems every thing is ok. Don't know what else to try or look at.
Further to my message of 03/03/10 I have a Samsung NC10 Netbook, it keeps returning to the reboot options black screen but whatever option I choose, it boots up, flashes Windows XP, flashes blue screen, ends up back on black options screen. There's no chance of getting on the internet to download anything, no icons no task bar. I know that this will cost us 70 to take to PCWorld and we're a bit low paid. How can I transfer the files to another PC?
My Compaq (XP HOME edition SP2) laptop is suddenly going through this whole physical memory dump complete thing. I turned it off just like normal this afternoon. Then tonight when I turned it on, it got to my desktop, seemed normal for less than 1 min, then went to the blue screen that includes the following technical Information: STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x85EE90BD, 0xECF62B4C, 0x00000000) Beginning dump of physical memory Physical Memory dump complete Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. Then it would reboot, do the same thing, over and over again.
So I googled on my husband's computer and learned about the minidump folder thing. Then I went and started my computer in safe mode and found the folder, but I couldn't read the minidump files. So I googled some more and learned about downloading the debugging tools which I did (on my hubby's computer). I transferred the debugging file to my safe mode computer tried to install and it wouldn't let me. SO silly me, I copied the dump files onto my hubby's computer, hoping to read them there. Then I realized that the debugging tools need more than just the dump file to actually read it, and it would require image path, symbols stuff. Well, now I am totally lost. What do I do?
At first, my hubby thought it was probably because he plugged in the webcam thing before my laptop finished starting...some post did say it would cause the BSOD problem, well, we unplugged our webcam and it still wouldn't work. I read this link http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt...debugging.html but couldn't really follow... The following link suggested a similar video cam plug issue but I am not good enough to follow what he did to fix... http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/...se-a-stop.aspx
I am now totally stuck!!!! Please help me! What do I do now?
we were rebooting my PC to free up the virtual memory. The power cut off in the house, and afterwards, the computer started up very sluggishly. We tried a ChkDisk because my father told me that has fixed his PC before. It didn't help any because it said the disk was fine. I then tried a system restore, which did not help either. It still boots up as slow as ever. The operating system in Microsoft Windows XP 2002 edition with SP2 nstalled, and all the lastest updates installed.
I am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk. I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system. After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.
My computer keeps rebooting in normal mode, but I can log on in "Safe Mode". Whats weird is that I put a disk in my CD, Windows says device is working properly - but won't read the disk. Same thing happens with the floppy. Usually, when my computer booted before this problem occured, it went though normal boot sequence and I could see the light check for CD, and floppy...now it's not doing it. I can read hard drives in "safe mode", but CD, Floppy, and sound will not work?
i wonder if anyone can help? our computer keeps rebooting on us for no reason that i can determine. i have done so many anti-virus scans and anti-spyware scans and so on with no result. there doesnt seem to be any specific program that causes the shut down. any suggestions would be welcome.
I had a computer with WINXP and a celeron chip. I changed motherboards to a Tyan with a 1.5 Pentium4. I reused the hard drives and when I start up the computer it gives me the message that Windows was not shut down properly and do I want to go toa last know restart or start in safe mode or start windows normally. No matter what i do, the computer will start to boot and then it reboots itself and the process starts all over again.
I have windows xp. When I click on start, all prgrams - the list of programs shows up but alot of those folders are empy. Games, System tools, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Office Tools and many others are all empty. I apologize if this is a stupid question.I'm afraid I've done something by mistake to mess these folders up. Any help would be appreciated.
I have installed alot of software, hardware, and networking stuff in my computer. Now I am having random rebooting. I checked the event logs and there are save dumps at the time of reboot as follows: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000d1 (0x00000008, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xba60891b).
Starting yesterday my comp has begun to restart for no particular reason. Sometimes I can be on for a while, other times I can barely do a thing before it reboots. I first noticed it when I went to an Amazon page. I thought nothing of it, but upon going back to that same page it happened again. I assumed their must have been some bug in the page causing that, however unlikely that seemed. But soon after the computer was restarting seemingly at random. And for some odd reason if I click on my Ad Aware desktop icon this will also prompt the comp to restart. I'm stumped. I'm hoping it's just some virus I managed to pick up, and not a problem with the hard drive.
My husbands computer keeps rebooting none stop! He tryed to install his mobile phone app and rebooted and it's been rebooting ever since I've tried to get into safe mode and it reboots. I've tryed to restore to previous working state still reboots. I've even tryed to reinstall XP i get blue screen. can someone help me before he takes the sledge to it?
I have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer. Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations
To view the amount of time that XP has been running with out rebooting or restarting the computer: 1) Open the Command Prompt Type systeminfo 3) Once the system has finished gathering the information, scroll up and the time is displayed in the System Up Time field. As you can see, running system info also gives a lot of useful information.
Programs closing out on their own or just hanging up.
Below are two logs you might need to help me. I've tried a system restore but it does not have any dates prior to Feb 4th which is also odd because it's always been on. I've run Spybot and Ad-Aware and AVG with no luck.

I am having some problems with my brother's computer, which used to be a emachine w888 and lucky for us had never had problems with it till the motherboard before it recently was fried! So my mom and I decided to upgrade his entire computer and the only part that is actually part of the WHOLE emachine is the hard drive put into the new tower. So we got in the new barebone system and the mobo in it is a K7MNF-64 with an AMD XP Thoruoghbred 2800+ *even though the reciept says different for our motherboard*. Anyways the computer is running Win XP Home SP2 and whatever is on our emachine restore CD. Well we turned it on and the computer automatically tells us to select the computer to start normally or boot in safemode with or without netowrking. Well any selction we choose after the computer just reboots.
I don't have an easy way of backing up all the data, as I can't move and copy files, and the largest USB key/SD card I have right now is 512MB. I can't directly move files, the way I've found to work around this problem is to put all the files I want in a zip file and then extract it into the location I want.
So she doesn't want to format if possible, and I would really like to know what caused this problem, although it seems like 1 problem that spawned into many, as if someone took control of the computer and started disabling things. Any ideas would very much be appreciated
My Computer keeps rebooting. It does this several times a day. It started about 2 weeks ago. When it reboots it says the computer has recovered from a serious error, and a few click here links, leading me to a .dmp and a .xls file. It doesn't matter what I am doing. Sometimes I'll click a desktop icon .reboot. Then click a link from my email pop client.reboot. Or maybe I click a link in my browser.reboot. it's not one thing that I do, when it decides to reboot. I unchecked the auto restart button, and got this blue screen. I have not added any new Hardware or software. I formatted and re installed new Windows XP Pro Sp2 3 days ago, hoping it was software virus related NOPE Is something wrong with my usb ports? The CPU fan is working goot and the temps are good, do it's not over heating.
my computer has been running abnormally slow, and I don't mean 5-10 seconds for a program to load, more minutes. Once, it took, from turning the computer on, to arriving on desktop a total of 12 minutes, that was without half the stuff even loading by then!
The slow speed usually occurs when rebooting, I left my computer on for serveral days and eventually it worked good as ever.
I'm not sure if it matters, but soon before loading the desktop, there's a weird grinding type noise coming from the computer, this lasts for about 5-6 seconds, and happens several times.
My computer randomly crashes and also reboots on it's own a few times a week, but I'm sure this isn't normal.I'm running Windows XP.There's no pattern when these problems occur. I could be surfing the web, playing a game or my computer would sit and idle for a little bit... then it'll reboot. This started happening a few weeks ago, but figured I could live with it. Unfortunately, it's gotten on my last nerve and I really wanna know why it does these things and how I can fix the problems.
My Computer is stuck in some rebooting cycle. I have XP home edition. Every time I log in it shows my desktop with no icons, sits then logs off. I've tried safe mode with the same result. I've tried booting with my XP cd with same result. I read somewhere that it might be a virus
My computer worked fine yesterday but started to keep restarting every time my computer was done loading the desktop. I went on Event Viewer and found errors like this:The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load
I use XP Media Center, Avast AV, new computer, and I'm an intermediate user. Yesterday, after rebooting the desktop, start menu and taskbar began flashing with a system beep. What I mean by "flashing" is the taskbar and start button would go off, the system would beep, then they return and do it again and again. It is working right now but I'm lucky for that. I ran a virus scan and spyware scan and my system has been cleaned, defragged and a disk scan has been performed (no negative results). When I boot in Safe Mode, it's ok. I did the elimination process through MSConfig and when the services are stopped, the problem is not apparent. Turn them on, and it's there again. Here is my Hijack report below......
I go to start, control panel, click System, then click on Advanced, then Settings for Performance, uncheck Fade or slide menus into view, Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Slide taskbar buttons, Smooth edges of screen fonts, then I click on OK and OK again then re-boot and go back to look at the Performance Options and they're checked again :S anyways way to make then not checked for good and not get auto-checked open startup/re-booting?
Can someone give me some advice on how to remove the automatic restart on my XP SP3 based PC which is continuously rebooting without stopping at the error screen that indicates what the issue is?The error screen is only visible for a second before the reboot begins.Without Windows access to the startup options, is there a way to disable auto restart?
hi i'm very untechy, i am getting an rpc server error and cannot figure out how to fix it. it keeps rebooting my system. so it's in a continual state of shutdown and reboot. RPC Server Unavailable, hres: 0x800706BA Register Class Objects Fail when i try to do anything it shuts down before i can complete it.. and i try to type command, but i have to go through ctrl/alt/delete to get to the run function because the taskbar isn't there?
i am having a problem with windows xp not reading my full system memory it is in the bios but windows just one day decided to stop reading a full one gig instead it decided to read 256 megs of ram i've replaced the memory sticks five times now and i know i havent baught that many bad sticks of memory is there any way i can get windows to read the memory since i know the memory has to be good since the bios is reading the full memory i've even the a f-disc and reformat thinking that would fix it
When I start and open the system performance monitor (Ctrl + Alt + Del) system displays Available physical memory almost 220Mb (+/- 10) out of 512Mb while there is no any program has been running. Is it normal? How can I check that where the system has been using the memory?
I recently just built this computer so its still all pretty much brand new. Im not really sure what is making it reboot but it seems like im always playing a game when it decides to do it. After somone else suggesting it was the ram i decided to check my ram with memtest86+ and during the scan my computer rebooted itself pointing that it was prolly the ram. So now i am using my old ram while the other 2 gigs is bein sent back for return and the computer rebooted itself on my old memory so now im pretty sure its not the ram. I understand that it could be numerous things such as a loose wire, drivers, crack in motherboard but it would be nice if the problem could be determined or atleast narrowed down.
