I am trying to reformat my computer, somehow it got deactivated when it is ALREADY activated, but when I restart with my Windows XP Home CD in the drive, it wont read it when the computer is starting.. Any Suggestions?
Also for that XP Activation
I log in and then it pops up saying its not activated and asks if I want to activate or not so I click the activate button and then it says something of this sort "You Are Already Activated".
I have been trying to install my scanner and everytime I put the CD for the scanner, and hit run to load it up, nothing happens, I tried both the cd and cd/rw drive and nothing.I also checked the device manager to see if everything was there and it was.

I switched on the PC (Have a dell with xp) to find a blue screen with asking me to do something to anti virus .. run chkdsk /f and then a code: STOP: 0 X 00000024 (0 X 00190203, 0X8239C2CO, 0 XC0000102, 0X00000000)
Well I would run chkdsk /f but cant!
It wont load in safe mode/last known figuration etc.. just reverts back to the blue screen.
Most sites seem to sugggest running the XP disc. When I put this in, I press F12 as soon as I get the PC on, then 4, then any key to boot from Cd. Then a screen which says Press Enter to setup XP, Press R to enter the recovery console etc.. However when I press either Enter or R the screen appears as though its doing something for a brief second, but sticks on the same screen for hours with a message on the bottom saying : Examining 152587 mb Disc 0 at ID 0 on bus 0... It didnt do this last time i had a blue screen problem about 6 months ago, just loaded up staright away.
So I am stuck. Either it goes back to the blue screen or it supposedly examaning something. Is it supposed to take ages?! I tried F8 and all the Safe Mode/Config options. If there was another way to run chkdsc /f I might be ok but I really haven't got a clue and seem to be going round in circles.
i need any kind of help that doesnt just say boot from the windows XP installation cd- because I cant,To my knowledge nothing new has been installed...
I have just installed new memory,new graphics card geforce 8800gt,new power supply,and new sata hard drive.
I have made a floppy disk from the motherboard cd for installing the drivers during windows instillation from my old pc first.
I switched on new pc to load windows and i get no signal on my monitor also my usb mouse and usb keyboard does not light up,iget power to motherboard and case fans +dvd drive,i have put my windows xp os disc into dvd drive and basically it does nothing.
Do i need to make a windows boot disc or something to start instillation.
I still have windows loaded on my secondary sata hdd but the system32 is corrupt,so i have opted to install new sata hdd,then transfer my files from secondary hdd,once that is done gonna format secondary drive and use it for storage.So i still have the option of entering the bios on my motherboard if i connect it up and disconnect the other drive.
I have left the drive disconnected while i install windows then gonna plug it in after windows installation.
My old system hasn't been powered on for about a year. Problem was the onboard video failed replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now. After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it.only the computer will only boot in safe mode. Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe New one is Drive 0 and OS is on partition 2 (Dell installation disk put in a FAT32 diag partition)Apart from my boot drive being F:.. I can live with it. However I got two options on booting up.. first one is Unidentified Operating System on C drive and underneath XP Windows HOME edition. after some experimentation.. I reversed the order and cut the timer down to 10 secs delay.
Problem is that sometimes I do not get the OS options dispalyed at all.. If that happens, I then get a black screen and a flashing white dash. On pressing the power button it soft re-boots and I get the options dispalyed with the default XP Home at the top and timer counting down to load it .. it then runs fine.. till the next crossed fingers start-up.
When I look in the event viewer I can see above error message.Are these drivers not loading due to programs being updated or has something gone wrong with my system? Below is the list of files not loading.I have checked quite a few of these files and they are present in my "System32/Drivers" file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI start my windows xp and it loads fine at first and then gets into loading the desktop and then nothing happens, but just before that a RUNDLL message pops up and says: rvbc1.dll: access is denied, you can click ok or the x on the top right corner, after that the menu dissapears and nothing happens. No desktop icons or start menu loads. Actually the start menu you can kinda see flash for about 1/2 a second.I've tried many solutions, I'm in fact working with another guy from techsupportforums.com and haven't gotten anywhere with it. I've run hijackthis and combofix to no avail. I think a virus has locked out the system. I don't know what else to do or try.
View 4 Replies View RelatedStarted having issues last week, very very slow loading XP , then once loaded it would freeze take forever to get going again, opening programs files etc took forever, loaded in safe mode last night backed up as much as i could, at some point the comp. shut up and tried restarting, now windows won't load at all, either in safe mode or normal start up, i know a little bit about comps not enough to know if im completely ed or not, or if there is another way i can at least back up my Hard Disk or reinstall windows on my other Hard Disk and back up the orginally Hard Disk that way.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP, home edition. I've tried tweaks to improve start up time, used regedit, msconfig, turned off some automatic star-up programs, and used Registry Mechanic. When I tried to restart the computer, I'd be brought to the "Welcome" user selection screen. After selecting a user, the Desktop would load without icons or the taskbar (cursor appears), then after a few seconds, goes back to the Welcome screen. The few seconds I have in Windows, I tried bringing up the Task Manager, but it doesn't work. Also, when I click to load Disk Cleanup, nothing happens. Is there a fix for this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO. The PC has a partitioned HD: C (main), & D (storage). I defrag every night.
This evening, I got the dreaded "not enough disc space to complete disc defragmenter" message. Suddenly tonight I'm showing only 2% free space on drive C. I went in and changed my System Restore percentage from 12% to 6%. Now I'm showing 6% free space (but still can't defrag).
I shouldn't have had to change my System Restore percentage tho. I'm sure that's not the culprit. Up until last night the C drive was nowhere near this full. Something's there tonight that wasn't yesterday. ...A whole LOT of something. The Defrag graph is showing a nearly FULL C drive with a LOT of red "fragmented" files"
I've been doing a bit of downloading, but after it's on the desktop (part of C), I move it to the D storage drive (which has a LOT of free space remaining).
Something's fishy. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking I need to find some type of application to tell me what's suddenly on that drive taking up all this space. Anyone have any helpful suggestions?
neither wmp 11 or roxio recognizes a blank disc. when i try to burn a disc (dvd or cd) both wmp 11 and roxio tells me to insert a blank disc. i have tried putting a disc in first, or wait for the program to tell me to insert disc but neither way works!:
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

I already used cd-bootable Knoppix to copy all documents i needed to rescue. At this point a complete Re-install would be great, but alas, no install disk came with this notebook, And i lost the recovery discs i made. I do NOT have any XP disc available.How can I begin a re-install or similiar from the Hardisk with no Discs?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI get a little confused by terms like restore vs recovery, which are often interchanged incorrectly IMO -and then there are the terms bootable disc and startup disc, which can also get confusing - and I have seen other terms used also.
please explain exactly what you mean by the "bootable XP CD". I have a new XPsp2 home edition pc, and I had a millennium before that (which I made a "startup disc" for in add/remove programs - so I guess a startup disc is yet another term for boot disc - it was only a 3-1/2" diskette (less than a meg), and it would get my millennium to boot by typing "scanreg /restore" at a prompt that you eventually came to.
For my XP, I immediately made a Compaq "recovery dvd" (it took 2-dvd's) utilizing the "Compaq recovery cd-dvd creator" in start/programs/pc tools. This dvd (can also use cd's but it takes 8 or 9 cd's I believe) contains everything that is on the pc (from the factory), and which is also in the system recovery partition D:. There is also something called a "Recovery Tools CD", which I did not burn, since it did not seem necessary, after
reading about it in the "troubleshooting and system recovery guide" that came with my Compaq. I will burn that one to, if you can explain what it will do, that I can't ultimately achieve by using the "recovery dvd". The manual said that one of the things the "recovery tools cd" did was to remove the system recovery partition (drive D), so you could use it - but I'm sure there is another way of doing that from within the pc once you got it running using the recovery dvd - am I right - I've never messed around with partitioning, since I have no need to.
My new XP did not come with any "bootable CD" per se, and I made the "recovery dvd", as stated above. So please shed some light on what the "bootable XP CD" is that you refer to (because you said that a "restore Cd is really overkill" - I assume you mean the "recovery CD" that I mentioned). Also please provide your comments on the "recovery tools CD", and any other comments you have on the various terminologies I have mentioned above.
After putting the windows XP CD in and rebooting, now whenever the computer is restarted I get the blue screen that says unable to find disc press F3 to exit setup. How do I stop this so computer will reboot normally?

I have tried to install a new xp pro sp3 disc on a new computer but have been getting errors in the installation. I have tried 3 different times but it says that the disc is missing some components and when it is final it does not work properly.
I finally talked to a tech person that asked me if I had another disc and I have an older sp2 disc. He said to install that but when I put in the key for my new disc it does not work with my older disc. I finally put in my old key and it worked fine. THe installation went off without a hitch but I won't be able to use my old key when I activate it. When I install the sp3 download will I be able to change my key to the new disc key?
PC was rebooted and this message showed up. I couldn't get to safe mode so I put the XP disc in. I got to the D:winint dir and tried to run bootcfg to scan for the boot file. It came back that it couldn't find it. I was able to see the dir's and data on the 2 drives. I ran chkdsk to see if that would solve the problem, it didn't. Do you think this is a BIOS problem or a missing boot problem. If it was the BIOS would I be able to read the drive. Looking for a fix without destroying everything.

I have DVD-RAM drive in my hp laptop and i used to write DVD-R disc usually.
In the recent time i get an message when insert a dvd-r disc. The error message is
The disc is not writable
Please insert a writable disc
Disc required for compliation : DVD R/RW, DVD R DL, DVD-RAM
Disc type in the recorder VD-R
But i used the same disc before and it was half writtened already.
