I have been getting full screen popups. They are promoting all nature of things,ringtones ,anti virus progams and of course a perfect cleanup progam. Thr header states the name of the item and always "Windows internet explorer."they cause no damage but are very annoying.All the popup stoppers seem to be in place and turned on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know why, but I've noticed that all the programs in the start menu with links to websites don't show the IE7 icon. Why is that. I've also noticed in the system32 folder that the shell32.dll shows up many times with numbers beside them. I have shel32(3).dll, 4,5,6 + the original shel32.dll. I don't think it's normal. How the hell did they duplicate like this? And how do I correct the situation with the icon association in the start menu?
I have been getting alot of popups for Winfixer. I suspect other viruses have attached this PC. I ran ADAWARE, SPYBOT and AVG. I got rid of some but the Winfixer is persistant. I cannot come up in safe mode because the system hangs.

My 10 year old daughter used my computer tonight to go to gaming sites.Now popups for gambling, sex, dating, virus removal software, spyware and malware removal, and herbal Viagra keep popping up. I've updated and scanned using Symantec Antivirus, Adaware, XCleaner Micro, Zone Alarm Internet Suite, and Spybot Search & Destroy. The most recent scan and fix using Spybot seems to have stopped them for at least the next few minutes. Below is my Hijack This log. Would someone please advise on what I can do to clean up my system? After about 5 hours of updating and scanning, I'm going to bed now. I will check back when I wake up.

I have used Spybot, McAfee stinger, Ewido,AVG, Xsoft spy,Cclearer, Norton and possibly every othe rproduct on the market to remove adware/malware but to no avail.
I got spyware on my computer and now random popups come up when ever I type. Also my run icon and my shut down icon dissapeared on my start menu.

Well, now shes saying that she is STILL getting popups, tons of them. I know I took them out because I surfed the internet myself, and I didnt get a single popup... I recently scanned with ewido and ad-aware, i could not run the ad-aware in smart scan mode (my computer would go to blue screen with fatal system error and would shut down if i did).I accidentally download a winfixer application a few months ago. I quickly uninstalled it after after reaslizing that it was not part of the windows secruity suite.
I recently downloaded ad-aware and scanned comp,the files are now quarantined, but i still get pop ups while using internet explorer.The last scan verified that i had trojans, and data miners all which were quaratined, but i still get pop ups (even with those sites on my blocked list). Is there anything i can do to stop the pop ups, and to over all get rid of the infection i have on my computer?
I've been having trouble with popups recently and can't seem to clear them. I updated both Spy Bot S&D and Ad-Aware, and ran some scans in safe-mode and a normal boot. I've also ran scans with Anti Virus which detected a couple of trojans.One of the main problems is a balloon popping up in the system tray (like in XP, although I'm using 2k Pro) telling me "Your computer might be at risk. Your virus protection status is bad. Spyware Activity Detected. Click this balloon to fix this problem". My grandmother bought a crappy old gateway laptop with XP on it (for 3 times what it was worth) from some guy she met. The whole thing was screwed up and practically unusable when she got it so she asked me to fix it. I already set up a working admin account and made it so it can do basic functions and everything last week. I've spent a lot of time on the microsoft websites help section trying different methods to fix different problem, finally got it to work with internet. But, assuming there are two versions, I think they installed the desktop version of WinXP on it.. It doesn't have any of the normal differences an XP laptop has vs an xp desktop, like it has no battery reading, and refuses to acknowledge it's a laptop and has a battery thus refuses to charge the battery, so it must be plugged in to work. I don't know the first thing to how to fix that. Also, I'm pretty sure these things come with wifi, it's not that old, it's a M405 like this one. It has no indication of capability to connect to wireless internet, so I have to keep the ethernet cable in at all times too.IE fails and as soon as I got it connected to the net 1000 popups started coming up, and it kept freezing going to websites and I kept having to ctrl+alt+del it, so I got safari and it's working a lot more smoothly.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy brother has Win XP Home Edition.2 days ago, he was surfing the net and was bombarded with 15-20 popups. While trying to close them, his computer froze. He rebooted, but he no longer has ANY Icons on his desktop nor does he have a start bar. Even in Safe Mode they aren't there. His desktop wallpaper shows, and you can ctrl+alt+del and get the task manager & go to programs that way, but that's about it. If he goes to the I-net thru task manager, he can get to his home page (msn), but is unable to check his hotmail (clicking on it doesn't do anything, it just doesn't go to the new page)

In the bottom right corner of the screen there is a blinking yellow triangle with a black exclamation sign it that regularly pops up with a seemingly legitimate warning but I know its the virus. Also, on the desktop, there are two icon shortcuts to things called "Live Safety Center" and "Online Security Guide." Also I assume they're part of the virus.

View 2 Replies View Relatedits my previously-formatted HP Pavilion dv5201tx! The problem is as the title above. I can go into safe mode. I've used system restore twice. And in Documents and Settings folder I noticed it has:
Administrator
Administrator.computer description name
Administrator.computer description name.000
username1
username2
Is it creating more user folders? At some point Administrator.computer description name.000 wasn't there. Corrupted registry hive? I'm not sure! Restarted many times, used Last known good configuration, and it's still black after the boot screen. Please help!
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.

I use a developer program to make executables (hobby of mine saves me going troppo) called Clarion, it works OK, I made a DOSable program with it, it works OK.
Once I could open to full size DOS screen by pressing the Alt+Enter keys and it would stay open until I was finished with it, then I could revert back to a small screen by pressing Alt+Enter keys again.
Now if I press Alt+Enter keys the DOS screen appears, but it stays open in full screen for a couple of seconds then automatically closes back to the usual small screen.
I have tried right clicking on the icon, properties, screen and putting a dot in the full size option, but this does not work.
I have scanned my PC for viruses etc but no joy there.
I have Dialup only, so don't ask me to do a Panda or Trend scan as they drop you if you no got broadband.
I'm using XP pro, 512meg ram, using a Gigabyte MB, and Nivida video card.
XP working OK-dokie, sound ok-dokie, video ok-dokie, screen to DOS wonkie.
how to fix this?
My laptop has started to freeze at times,then the screen would blackout then appear with a black screen with a blue box inthe middle giving BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS Hard Disk Drive, CD-ROM/DVD, Floppy Disk Drive, LAN Boot it froze blacked out and now keeps going to this option page ,where as before if you turn off then on it rectified itself.
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen I turned on my computer and got the blue screen of death, so I restarted my PC. Then a black screen came up saying "Windows could not start beacuse the following file is missing or corrupt : windowssystem32configsystem."
You can attempt to repair this file by putting the winxp cd in etc...
Now when i turn on my computer there is just a black screen showing, with nothing at all on it.
Any ideas?
