When I start up my pc a folder by the name of "Common" always pops up for no reason and is completely empty and needs to die because it is starting to annoy me ^_^ It starts before anything else including my virus scanner and if I close it before the other things are loaded it appears again I don't think it's related to adware or any viruses etcetera I keep my computer pretty clean. The folder isn't registered in my startup files which is why I wonder what the hell it's there for. If anyone knows how to fix this annoying problem please reply. I don't know the file path or anything because I have a problem showing the path in folders but that's something I can live with, a "common" file that comes up every time I login is not!My computer is a Sony Vaio RS100 running windows XP service pack 2.
Everytime I start the computer i cannot do anything until a folder titled 'common' appears, inside the folder is another folder titled 'bin', inside 'bin' are four files titled 'iviaudio.ax', 'ivinav.ax', 'iviaudioeff.ax' and 'ivivideo.ax'. This folder didn't used to come up so i guess i have done something, how can i repair it to stop it appearing?
Everytime I start my computer the C:Program FilesCommon folder opens! It's so annoying. I have looked at other posts and have tried the Start-Run-misconfig-Check startup tab but this folder is not listed. There are some programs within the common files folder that are listed, but not the simple file path I wrote above.
I get a folder appear each time I start my win XP laptop. It appears on the desktop and has the name of a folder I have deleted a few months ago that was full of mp3 files.

How do you remove the "Common Startup" items from the startup list in msconfig for Windows XP? I did locate and remove the "Run" items that are located in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionRun.
When my computer boots up a Common Folder appears.Inside the Folder is a sub folder called Compaq connections.I tried to delete the folder but was denied access after unchecking Read Only. How do I stop this folder from appearing on boot up.

I just built a new computer and installed Windows XP Pro with SP2 on it. When I set up my hard drive and OS, I partitioned my lone hard drive into three partitions: 10 Gb C: drive for Windows, drivers, etc., and a pair of 111 Gb drives for things like program installs. I noticed that my C: drive is filling up rather rapidly, and I discovered that Program FilesCommon Files is taking up a considerable amount of space. I would like to move this folder onto one of my bigger partitions, but I'm not sure how to do it without screwing up all my programs. Any direction on this matter (that doesn't involve re-partitioning and starting from scratch) would be appreciated.
When I boot up my computer the system 32 folder appears. I would like to get rid of this unscheduled appearance. There is no mention of System 32 in msconfig so I cannot simply uncheck a box and have it not start up. I did find a MS article on this problem; http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=170086, but it calls for editing the registry and as the directions are not too clear, I am afraid to do this on my own for fear of fouling something critical. I am fine with the instructions till the last step where they call for editing Value data. If someone knowledgable with the registry could give me some detailed directions I would like to try to eliminate System 32 from appearing. Computer info (if needed) is in my profile.
Everytime i login to Windows, windows explorer appears showing the folder "C:Program FilesCommon"I've tried going into msconfig and seeing if the folder start up through that but it doesn't seem to.I've recently reformatted and didn't have this problem beforehand.I have Windows XP Pro SP1.
For some reason when ever I start up the folder "system32" appears on my desktop. It's not a big deal it's more annoying than anything but I'm sure when I go to START UP what uncheck to stop this from popping up everytime.
About a week ago. I noticed that I new folder appears under my Local Disk Drive. I do not have a clue what this folder is for. I have attached a couple of pictures of the folder (see below). The folder is titled "RD4B335D2AF9F44185AFC417F8D8D4B473DR".
I've been browsing the web for an answer to my laptop's problem but no luck so far. My laptop specs are: purchased in 2002 AMD athlon 1399MHz Windows XP (recently updated to SP2) 350 MB RAM On boot up, the laptop occassionally starts going very fast when the Windows XP logo is displayed, the DVD drive then starts going crazy, the login window appears but the cursor is blinking very fast and I can't move the mouse
On my other computer (an HP Pavilion 750n), the HP Folder in Program Files (or something like that) has been opening as soon as the computer is started and the desktop is loaded. Does anybody know why this might be happening?
Whenever I start my computer up, the C:WINDOWSsystem32 folder opens up.. everytime! I have looked at several forums to try to fix my problem, and I have tried the fix at this website: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 260) and this is the message that came up:"the script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not found."I have no idea what to do.. I read on one forum that the guy had to basically clean off his hard drive and re install it! I REALLY don't want to have to go through that.. especially since I'm a college student, and finals are coming up.. the last thing I need is to be without my own computer. I have searched on this site for forums pertaining to this subject, but I haven't found any.
For some reason,I have lost my startup folder. I recently had a virus problem, so don't know if that is the reason or not. Outlook Express no longer appears in sys config, so no longer can I boot to that as in the past. How do I get Outlook Exress back in the boot process?
Every time I startup windows XP my C:Program FilesCommon folder is open. It does this, regardless of who is logging on. I'm sick to death of closing the thing now. There's also a folder inside the common folder called 'Bin'. Don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I accidentally dragged my Startup folder and dropped it into my Microsoft Office folder. I tried to move it back; but, Widows gave me an error box that said it was a System folder and could not be moved. I tried renaming it, deleting it, nothing worked. I made a new Startup folder (like a dummy) and then used an OS that boots from a CD to delete it.
upon my start up a folder which incldudes drivers pops up. This has recently started. I am not sure why but I am trying to stop this. Please help and let me know if i should be concerned.
Does anyone know hoe to remove the startup folder from the start menu.I am customising the startup menu by deleting the contents of the startup menu and then copying down the shortcuts when each user logs in.The only folder i cannot not get rid of is the startup folder. Even if i delete the folder it recreates its self!
[current user]start menuprogramsstartup" folder is missing and creating a folder called startup doesn't work (shortcuts placed in a created startup folder do not run when windows start)programs placed in the " all usersstart menuprogramsstartup" folder start TWICE when windows starts.looking in msconfig, any shortcut placed in the all users startup folder shows up twice. it shows up once as "startup" and once as "common startup".it seems to me that some kind of attribute of the user's startup folder got incorporated into the all users' startup folder.
Recently, i havent been able to install programs. Whenever I do, i geta Message along these lines."Could Not Access Network Location %USERPROFILE%My DocumentsStartMenuProgramsStartup." This is really annoying, and I cant seem to find a solution to this anywhere,
