May 28, 2006
Clicked on a MySpace page and got a popup immediately. My AVG said it detected a virus. I quaranteened it then deleted them, and ran Adaware and quaranttened those. I am still getting pop-up ads. I am running Windows XP. How can I uninstall this mess?
what i wish to do is reformat c: . But everything i click on a popup comes up saying something like this file program has no file assocation go to control panel etc....eg fdisk, c: prompt...seems like everything to do with windows. Is there anyway of getting the file assocation back. oh yeah when it starts there is a popup that comes up, with nothing in it just a few square boxes in the top left corner and of course i cant get into msconfig to see what is starting.
When i open a folder search pops up and doesnt open the folder, when i right click on the file "search..." is in bold. How do i change this to open the folder directly
When I click the 'my computer' icon in windows xp it takes a while to load, upwards of 20 seconds to display my hdds etc. I made some changes to services.msc last week in an attempt to speed up my machine, any thoughts on something I may have disabled which would result in this?
A friend of mine clicked a link in an AIM message that gave me a virus, haven't been able to get rid of it. Hijackthis log is attached. If I don't figure this out soon, I'll have to buy a new HD so when I format I won't lose everything.
I currently use Adobe Photoshop for much of my work, I require various specialized fonts, such as the ones done specifically for films, TV and Bands alike. Whenever I click to go into my fonts folder, you know c:windowsfonts, it freezes,it just gets stuck there, an I need access. When this was working, downloaded fonts only worked at the time i placed them in.The .ttf file stayed in the fonts folder, but when I came logged on at another time after logging off/shuting down, the font was no longer in the drop down lists in the Microsoft programs/photoshop, and like i said was still in the fonts folder.
I double click on a Jpeg it opens in Windows Paint instead of the Windows Fax and Picture viewer as it has always done.BMP and GIFS still open correctly When I check under properties it states that Windows Picture and Fax viewer is the programme it opens with and that is highlighted in the drop down column. I can open them when I use the right click drop down menu and select preview, then it will open in the viewer. I have ran Norton Antivirus, spybot, Ewido, adaware. I have tried changing the Jpegs to open with paint, then changing it back again, still won't budge.
mouse stops moving and when I click a small circle appears --- Multiple clicks will usually restore the arrow -- Sometimes moving the arrow starts to move a frame which I don't want to happen.--Zone Alarm usually shows incoming and outgoing colors but will freeze and only show the ZA in lower right blue area
my computer jams every now and again for a minute or 2 depending on what i do for E.g if i press ALT and TAB to quikly change wat im doing it jams. also whenever i click on something like a folder or shorcut of a program , instead of opening the file or folder the proprties come up ( this problem is now fixed but it might be a sympton of a virus or sumthing ?).i think its cuz of a file i downloaded off the internet.

I upgraded a Dell 4400 computer for my daughter which came with 128 MegRAM, 120 GigHD, P4-2 Gig. I added an additional Gig to what was thee but did not think to increase Virtual Memory (originally custom set by Dell about 360 Meg). When she is trying to do Excel files on her account while her husband keeps his place on the Internet (ball scores)- they often get the message "Windows Virtual Memory is low".
I am getting extremely annoyed with the message that keeps popping up every thirty seconds (see attachment). I don't know why it's searching for some removable media (I think) when my thumb drive is still inserted. I have been having similar problems since the stupid Geek Squad told me I needed a new hard drive and then named it the "H" drive for some reason; now from time-to-time when I try to run programs which (I think) used to be based off my C drive I'll get one of these or a C+++ runtime error window. How can I make this stop? I'm running Windows XP SP3. on an HP desktop. All help is appreciated, as this is a highly annoying problem right now.
This is not a very serious problem because I have discovered several work-arounds for it. But I am sick of it and I would like to know how to fix it.I am using Windows XP Home SP2. I like to use Windows Explorer to open all my files by double-clicking them. I also like to design actions for the context menu, such as "view" to open in Firefox or "edit" to open in Word. I keep having problems with files with spaces anywhere in the file path. I would like to be able to use spaces in my file names and store files in directories with spaces. For example, I have problems storing files anywhere in "My Documents" or "Desktop" because those folders are subfolders of C:Documents and Settings and Windows won't let me rename "Documents and Settings" because it is a system folder.
This is my first time here but boy do I need help! When I right click Play or double-click my D and/or E drives after inserting a cd or dvd, I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel." I have tried several things already including running a thorough cleaning, fixes recommended on the Web including one here and NOTHING works. I cannot burn cds either. Hope someone can help me. I am pretty savvy at following the instructions, even if it includes going into the registry.
Why can't I change my screen resolution? I recentely reformatted my WindowsXP and I can't seem to change my SR anymore. It says this message "Input not supported." Any reasons? I can't stand 800x600
When ever I start or restart my computer, this message box pops up and it says, Error loading C:sindowssystem32stlbdist.dll The specified module could not be found.I am running Windows XP Home. I upgraded from Windows ME. I know that that is not the cause. I just thought I would mention which OS I have. I think this showed up after I uninstalled Limewire, but I'm not sure.
When I purchased this packard bell pc, the hard drive was split into 2 parts.he HDD (c and DATA(D The C drive had a capacity of 80gb and the D drive had a capacity of 160gb. Every time I log on now I get a message that says ''low disk space'' When i right click MY COMPUTER the C drive shows only 14gb capacity and the D drive shows 226gb capacity. How can I transfer the 66gb of memory back to the C drive.
I am trying to install an upgrade program (Tom Tom SatNav Software) to my PDA. This has to be done through the desktop PC When I insert the CD into the drive of my PC and try to run the Setup program I get the error message " Not enough free space on temporary folder" "Cannot run Setup" I can't find a Temporary folder with anything in it, I have deleted all the cookies and Temporary Internet files but still the same message.
I've got a small home network. I've been trying to copy a file from one computer to another. The file is about 7gb in size, and I know that the destination drive has 25gb free. But every time I try to copy it, I get an error message telling me that there's not enough free disk space.
When I try to use the control panel, I get an error message access to the specific devise path or file is denied. Some items work, but I get the same message when I try to run spybot, adaware, or when I try to manually load norton.
Had to reinstall XP due to some disk errors. Now my audio does not work.I tried reinstalling drivers, but I'm not 100% sure I got the right ones.Under Sounds and Audio Deives everything is grayed out.In the device manager all the "Sound and VIdeo Game Controllers" appear to be OK....however under Other Devices all options have a yellow ? next to them. I think it has something to do with this....especially the Multimedia Audio Controller one.
I'm running Win XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The hard drive is partitioned into 2 drives: C and D. C has some Dell stuff, but everything else, including Windows, is on D. When I tried to install an update for SP2, I got an error message that the drive needs 1 more MB of free space. There's only 732KB free on C, but 14GB free on D, so I suspect the update is trying to go to C. Is there any way I can direct updates to D? Or, can the HDD be re-partitioned without losing what's on it?
Currently I have been this problem once this in a while. Whenever I one click, it does what double clicking do. It doesn't happen always, but it happens once in a while. Somebody told me its a bug in Windows where you clicked only once, but Windows think you have double clicked.
At least once a week I get this message: "To free up disk space, OE can compact messages". I just click "OK". I have 132 GB available so why do I get a message like this?
The problem I'm having is, every week I do a scan disk and defrag. I've noticed that once defraged since a few weeks ago I HAVE GONE from over 70% free space down to only under 40%....I don't run any major software at the moment BUTDO use the internet on ADSL most days BUT not to any great extent. The only connection I can c is this copying Dig pix straight to disc...Am I right or is there sumthing else going on
I'm getting the Low Disk Space message in Windows XP. Well, DUH...I knew that I was running out of room, so I bought an external hard drive with more space than I'll ever fill. Like an idiot...when I got the external.....I just went to folders...sometimes programs and used "send to" the now G: drive. Yes, I know, that was STUPID! Many of the same files are duplicated, etc so that they were copied and sent....not actually MOVED. Some of my programs don't even work correctly anymore
