I have a computer that I bought cheap that has a factory(OEM) XP Home installation on it. It has the original user name listed on the Start Menu andSystem screen. How can I change the registered name to mine? Is there a program/patch that will change the name and registry to me?

I used the Control Panel's "User Accounts"/"Change an Account" to change my Username on XP Home without any problems. However, under Documents and Settings, the directory with all my settings still has the old Username. Can I just rename the directory to the new one I created and which is reflected as my Username on login, or will that create problems.
I am the administrator of the account and would not like to get locked out or cause other types of problems. Can someone who is familiar with this type of maneuver confirm that it is OK to just rename the directory or how to go about approaching this?
I got a pretty serious problem i just got done reformating tonight and i goto get service pack 2 and i install it it says restart when its doen so i do and i get You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error message everytime i try to boot up ive tried last known good config and safe mode all of them come up with the same message the only thing i havent tried is chkdsk but i dont think that will do anything.

I have loaded XP home onto a laptop but in the process I typed the wrong name and now although the start up user is correct the 'Registered to: ' in System Properties - General is the wrong name.

I have a program I want to run at startup in my admin account, but I don't want it to start for any limited users when they login.I tried going into the limited account and running msconfig, but obviously this is disabled in limited accounts so no joy there.
View 4 Replies View Relatedok so here is the story i have raid 0 array 2 x 160 WD and my windows is installed on it i recently bought 2 x 640 Samsung F1 i built a new raid 0 array and i'm trying to move my windows instalation from one array to another I used Norton's Ghost Disk Copy method . And now when i boot from the new array windows stop right before the user selection screen .the thing is the computer doesn't stop responing .. i can still move my mouse but the user selection screen never show's up i tried reading the windows system log from the new partition with and little utility and it doesn't seem to be any thing wrong.I also tried booting from the windows cd but when it get to the part where is supose to detect hard drives i get the infamous x0000007B stop error
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've just purchased a new monitor for out PC with a better resolution than our previous one. Basically, my dad wants to have his user account set at 1280x768, whereas I want to use the best resolution of the monitor which is 1440x900.
On the previous monitor, I seemed to be able to make it so that different user accounts could have their own resolutions. However, when I've tried changing the resolution in my dad's account, when I go back to my account, it is set as my dad's resolution. If I change it back to mine, then my dad's account changes to mine too.
Is there a way I can make it so that each account can have their own resolution set?
installed a file manager for his mobile phone and it's put a folder on the desktop which I cannot seem to remove. I right click it but there is no delete option for it. Even when I open it, I can't find any options to remove it either. Does any one have any idea as to how I might be able to remove this folder from my desktop? It's appeared on all user accounts

I am trying to fix a friends computer my usual story. Once it gets to the user screen for user selection both keyboard and mouse stop working, its either they stop working or the computer freezes, i am not sure. Life still goes to the mouse as it still lights. The keyboad works fine in the bios but not at freezing point.

so i tried to delete i couldnt ... eventually it got deleted by software "unlocker" but as i log in again an error as "please contact system administrator as klgina.dll is missing'.. i got that back again by system restore..

idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account
(which appears to be hidden? Should I allow it to log in under the covers? If
so, do I have to re-click 'Users must enter a user name and password, etc."
Okay.I've done this before but so save my life, can't remember or find where it was that I did it. I want to change the (classic?) log on screen to the XP screen using the little icons with users names. Like I said, I've done this before but cannot remember where to change it.

I am aware of the OEMINFO.ini file but that only changes information in the Computer properties page when you right-click 'My Computer' and choose properties.But when you use dxdiag,the System Manufacturer and System Model read "To be filled by O.E.M".Could anyone please tell me how to go about changing these settings ? Changing the OEMINFO.ini file does not affect these values.OEM manufacturers like Dell, Sony have changed the settings on their products, so I'm sure it's possible.

But then i got GAIN from i think some codec i got online, and then my cpu usage used to jump up to 100% quite frequently. I attempted to look online as to how to remove GAIN from my computer,It has some changes to the registry which i did without making backup of it. View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer started acting up, and I couldn't play any games.WoW mainly -(Yes I play it) and Cod4, So finally I managed to fix it myself and this is what I did. Went into device manager, disabled then enabled my GFX card, Then I have to go into display properties and change 3D acceleration to 0 then back to full, Also when I do this it corrects my resolution.
However, EVERY time I power down my computer, I have to do this which get's very annoying
I have two problems the first, my system crashes every time that I try to change an icon on the desktop. If I want to rename or delete a icon I have to use explore to do so. Also some times when using the explore the system crashes. I have run virus scans, defrag, Norton Windows Utilities, and Spy Sweeper all come back clean. I go to the task list to check what processes are running but everything seems to low. The cpu shows 2% to 4% usage. My second problem is USB connections. I can no longer sync with my Dell Axim. I have disconnected and reconnected the USB connection and reinstalled the Microsoft 4.2 Activesync software but nothing helps. My USB printers still works.
