Advent 8315 Laptop Wont Boot Only Running The System Fan?
Nov 14, 2008
I have an advent 8315 laptop and running vista. When I turn it on the fan kicks in and just keeps continuously running but I don't get anything on the screen. I do get a blue power 'on light' but there's no blue light indicating the hard drive is at work (altho I have put the hard drive in a caddy and can read it fine). I have tried fn+F3 to see if I can get an image on an external screen but with no joy. As the laptop didnt come with a recovery disc, and I didnt make a recovery disc, can anyone advise as to how I can get it back up and running again please?
I have a advent 9515 laptop and i have lost my recovery disc can any 1 tell me where to get a copy of it that dose not cost a bomb cause i have a virus on my laptop and need the disc.
I have 5 year old Inspiron 1100 that I recently opened up to clean the cooling fan/heat sink. This was the first time I ever opened this laptop and was careful about doing it. When I reassembled/closed up, the laptop would not boot up. The power light is on, the fan is running, but no HD activity, no display and no lights (number lock, scroll etc). I removed the battery and tried it with same results. I even removed the ram modules and tried to boot with same results.
A friend gave me her Compac Presario 2100 to wipe clean to be sold.I reformatted the hard drive and now the computer will not boot. The machine runs for about 15 seconds and dies. Running XP Home.
Computer is suddenly running chk disk at bootup - anyone know why that would suddenly start to happen. I don't know how to even enable it - and really want to disable it. How do I do that? No errors are reported when it finishes. Also if I go to error checking when windows finally boots, it won't run because certain system files cannot be accessed.
just had a machine where the boot ini had been currpted so do a chkdsk /p then a fixboot in the recovery console and it came back fine. But now it boots soooooooooooooo slow about 1-2 mins but once up it is fine. It shuts down fina as well. Done all scans virus adaware etc so the machine is now clean. So how do I speed up the boot.
i am currently serving in afghanistan and into my first 2 months of my tour and my advent 4211-b netbook has broken. i tried restoring settings on it via the tech guys software installed on my netbook and it crashed half way through, so i restarted it and ever since it goes onto a blank screen saying.Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
3. Click Repair your computer.
i have a usb stick and have tried to download windows xp recovery disks and try to re-boot it that way but nothing works! pressing enter and esc just restarts the computer and takes me straight back to this page. i need help asap. i only have a few days where i can access the internet to try and find solutions and then im back out.my girlfriend tried to speak to "the tech guys" from pcworld and they didnt want to know, they just told her that i need to bring it which would take months for me to recieve back out here, surly there is a way for me to fix it out here isnt there?
Recently I've been having trouble my Advent 7093. I think due to a virus. I keep getting stuck in a perpetual loop of windows failing to start. As there was nothing particulary on the laptop that I needed to keep I thought I would just do a full system restore. However, when I tried pressing F10 during start up nothing happened (no matter how many times I pressed it!) So i ordered a recovery disk from The Tech Guys expecting that when i started my laptop with the disk in the drive it would automatically take me into system recovery.
It doesn't! I just get a screen saying....
System Recovery Error! PC System not supported press any key to continue
when I phoned The Tech Guys for help they told me that for some reason my Advent no longer thinks that it's an Advent and that I'd need to take it to a PC World to be 'fixed' Has anyone else had an experience like this? is there anyway I can sort this out without having to take the laptop in?
bought a used laptop but it's running very slow and i wanted to do a complete restore on it but it wouldn't let me...PLEASE tell me what i can do to get it running better. I've included aLogfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:43:07 PM, on 12/24/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574) Boot mode: Norm
Recently my laptop has been running very slowly and I've noticed that the cpu usage is usually at 100%, even when most of the more memory intensive programs such as firefox and azureus are closed. Is this a problem with most lenovo laptops? I have a thinkpad T43p.
My son has a Sony VAIO laptop running Windows XP SP3 which originally had Windows/NT on it. There are several issues with this machine including how it slows down to a crawl and kills Firefox so that it must be rebooted. I want to know this: there are several folders in the C:WINDOWS directory as follows
I have a 3 computer network. (A)Host running xp Pro. with printer using Netgear wireless router for internet connection. (B)a desktop running xp home with a printer, and a (C)laptop running Vista with no printer. all of the computers recognize each other when use "view workgroup computers. However, When I try and accesss files or printer of (A) from either (B) or (C), I get a message that path does not exist. I am printing from (C) using printer hooked up to (B). Cananyone tel me how to get a configured so that (B) and (C) can talk to it?
I have a HP ze5568cl laptop (Windows XP SP2). For a few years we've had trouble with the power connector. We've just wiggled the power cable to keep it connected and lived with the problem. It also gets very hot and the fan runs constantly. Yesterday when I powered it on there was no power, absolutely nothing. My husband has some electronic knowledge so we took the laptop apart and he soldered the loose part of the power connector. While he was doing that I cleaned the fan (couldn't believe how much dust was in there. When we plugged in the power cable the orange light came on so we were excited. When we powered it on all the keyboard lights lit up so we thought we had fixed the problem but.that's all it did. It went no further except that the fan kicked on.There is a clicking noise coming from the cd drive about every second with the green light flashing. I suppose it is checking to see if there is a bootable cd in the cd drive. I have attempted to change the boot order by holding F1, then F2 but it still continues to try to read the cd drive. I can't get to the screen that will allow me to change the boot order.
I also put the OS disk in the cd drive, hoping that it would start with the disk but it just clicks. Hubby removed the cover of the cd drive and I could see that the cd is spinning. There were no problems with this laptop prior to the power problem. It was really working very well especially considering the age of it. The information in my sig is not for the computer with the problem. It's actually for an old computer which my son now has at college.
my laptop is running kinda slow and I just wanted to post a hijackthis log cause I think I've got some spyware that isn't showing up in spybot or somthing.
I'm trying to fix my friend's computer. He has an acer laptop running windows xp professional. He said he got a virus and it shut down. When he started it back up it got as far as the windows xp loading screen. This is where it is stuck. It just keeps loading and keeps loading. He left it on for a few hours and it did nothing. We have restarted it like 20 times and still nothing. It won't let me boot to the virus cd i have (malewarebytes virus cd). I changed the boot order and still nothing. I have also tried all the options (None of these options worked eirther) ...
Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration (Your most Recent Settings That worked)
Start Windows Normally
At the top of the screen it says "We Apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.
If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Know Good Configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked.
If a previous startup attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally."
I also tried all the advanced boot options and nothing worked. It doesn't even give me the option to boot to the cd. It's not showning up that there is a cd. How can i solve this?
here's what's up - after about 10 minutes of being on the computer it slows down significantly, particularly web browsing. i usually notice the problem when using firefox 2.0 to check out videos on Internet. after watching 2 or so videos, the videos become very choppy and the system starts coming to a halt. checking out the task manager - i find that the cpu hits 100% during these episodes and per the processes the cpu is being gobbled up by firefox. a similar thing happens when i run itunes.
i installed a browser to monitor cpu speed/temp etc. i found that i have tons of ram available (at least 600 mb) even during the slow periods. i also found that the cpu temp is pretty reasonable (53 c) but then i found that my cpu is running at 600 mhz (most of the time, irregardless if plugged in or not). i can't seem to make my system run at full cpu capacity and am not sure why or if this has anything to do with my problem.
Computer boots to blue screen after showing Windows splash screen and then immediately restarts. Windows Stop code 0X0000007E (0X80000003, 0X805C370C, 0XBACCB2B4, 0XBACCAFB0). Computer will not boot in safe mode or last known good configuration. I have decided that I will need to reload windows but have several very important files on hard drive that I need to get off first. As it stands, I have 2.5" drive loaded into external hard drive enclosure. Only problem is that 2.5" drive has drive letter of C: like every other computer I have in my house. Is there anyway to change this letter to view files via usb enclosure? Any way to change drive path of C: volume on any other computer?
I got blue screen of death on my laptop and it keeps on restarting before the window can actually boot up. It show's this message and reboots every single time when starting up Windows XP. I tried recovering the windows from the Recovery CD but it goes to the Gateway Symbol n freezes there and I have to restart the system every single time and try to boot from the recovery CD. it goes searching for recovery date on the hard drive and if not found any it will boot the recovery cd. but it goes to this scan and just freezes there with running the recovery data from the cd.
While running about a week ago, the monitor simply quit displaying anything. Now, when I boot up the laptop, it shows the BOIS icons and the Windows XP splash screen, but when it should show the logon screen (I have two user accounts on the box) the monitor goes blank. I know the laptop is still running because after a couple of minutes the screen saver music starts to play, so it must be a monitor-specific issue.I've gone into setup and reset the boot sequence to no effect, took out the battery and rebooted to no effect and now am at the end of my limited hardware diagnostic abilities.
So, a friend is looking to get a new laptop with a 17" display. I found this Toshiba Satellite model at BestBuy for $699: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1212192350169It comes with Windows Vista pre-installed. I went to the Toshiba support page for the laptop and found only ONE Windows XP driver and that's for the built-in modem. The bulk of the drivers are for Vista. What would the chances of actually getting Windows XP to fully function on this laptop? Where would I go for XP drivers for things like the ATI video adapter, the network adapters (Wi-Fi and Ethernet), and so on?
My laptop is running very slow and has been showing signs of hijacks. I have run Ad Aware and also Avast Virus Checker. I have Avast and AVG, Spyguard, Zone Alarm running and on my other machine running the same programs have no problems.
I have had a similar post before but the difference now is the Blue Screen comes up immediately. I tried to boot in safe mode and the last known good boot and neither works.
when i start up my laptop, it gets to the windows XP loading thing, it loads, and to contact my administrator and all that jazz it won't boot up in safe mode or anything either, and it was working fine just last night.
I have a laptop that can't boot up.Normally I would run the recovery console and proceed from there, except I don't have the original cd to boot from. Can I use any XP Home or XP Pro to boot and use the recovery console from there or must it be the media centre cd? Also, all the material point to copying file(s) from c:windows e pair system
My laptop will not boot.It starts up and gets to the windows vista screen where it says: configuring update stage 3 of 3 0% and then restarts and does it all over again and again and , well you get the point. I have tried system repair and it cannot find errors or at least can't seem to fix anything. I have tried all system restore points, but to no avail. how can i solve this problem?
I have a Medion Laptop that's running windows xp, it was working perfectly fine until i restarted it and now i can't get it to boot up! When i try and load windows it comes up with a blue screen saying boot from floppy, cd rom or hard drive but when i pick any of them options it does nothing. I decided to try and install Windows again and it gets to the part where it says setup is starting windows then it starts beeping, After that it comes up with a blue screen saying the following "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. then it says " The problem seems to be caused by the following file: partmgr.sys" also underneath that it says PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
I have an HP Pavillion DV2047cl laptop. It just kept rebooting itself when I tried to start it up so I tried to do a system restore with the disks that came with it. It worked for about a day now it won't boot up. It says INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14. Setup cannot complete. Error message 12544. I tried doing a system restore again but it stops partway through. Does anyone know what else I can try?
I am trying to upgrade the hard drive in a Thinkpad x60 laptop. I have a WD 120 gb SATA drive that I have tried to install with the Data Lifeguard tools. This does give you an option of installing the new drive as the new boot device, which is what I used. I did the installation with the drive attached to a USB port and an external enclosure.I have done this before with desktops without any problems. For this go around, the files seem to be copied correctly but the drive won't boot. I just get a blinking cursor. The drive is recognized when I attach is as an external drive.
