View 1 RepliesI went away at the weekend, came back on Monday and the PC wouldn't boot. It gets to the point of the loading bar / splash screen and then just stops, the PC then has to be turned off or reset. It will boot into safe mode and seems relitively responsive, there are no signs of any spware of viruses and the last windows update was done in November.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy son recently used our computer one evening and logged off without a hitch. The very next day, when I went to use it, all I got was the WindowsXP splash screen indicating that the system was loading. However, that's as far as the operating system would go. I can only use the computer in Safe mode. I have all the backup & resource CDs. Is there anything I can do besides a full restore. What do I do first? This is a WindowsXP Pro MCE2005 operating system.

And I was hoping this could be set up to be done easily when I wanted to. is there a program maybe that I could download that would do this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers (well more than that but for this i have 2) One works and one doesn't. I took the hard drive out of the working one and put it in the non working one as the master. (BTW on the non working one its just the hard drive that is working properly) I put the hard drive from the non working one as the slave so i can try and get some files off of it and format it. So I boot up the system and the computer recognizes it but then i get an " Error Loading Operating System" error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer tries to boot, it takes a while to detect anything from the CD-ROM (my first boot priority), and then when it detects the IDE, it says "error loading operating system" and after that I can't do anything but restart or shut down. I am running Windows XP Professional and it will load with a boot disk, but if I take out the boot disk it won't load.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since i bought the PC i had a trouble every now and then upon bootup, the xp loading bar would freeze. I would restart select the option to start in safe mood. Then would reboot and start normally. Happened maybe 4 or 5 times in the six months i have had the PC. However i turned it on today the same thing happened so i started in safe mood and still had the problem when i tried to reboot. Next step i went to msconfig and removed all non essential startup items. Then repeated the reboot step and still no luck. Since then i have tried to reboot a number of times. Now the next problem is my PC now freezes when i click safe mode.Anyone have any idea as to what can be done or what could be broken.

I don't know if I can give you the link where I got it because maybe that will be seen as advertising. But whatever, the problems I have don't have to do with the TinyXP specific I think, they are also occuring when isntalling a normal windows XP versionWhenever I boot from my cd, the setup is loading But after that, I get: the setup is starting and then BOOM, blue error screen:Quote :A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your

When trying to boot my computer it freezes.I have tried to boot into safe mode with no joy and then safe mode with command prompt. The last entry with command prompt is:multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWSSystem32DriversBTHidMgr.sysNow using the little I know about computers I am guessing that it is hanging whilst loading the driver BTHidMgr, what ever that may be and at a guess I either need to delete that driver or repair / replace it.... but.... thats about as far as I can guess.

Just before this happened, I booted up and the screen froze on the desktop, flashing some distorted lines across the center of the screen. I have tried rebooting multiple times and running diagnostics, but nothing appeared wrong. I'm going to assume its virus related.
View 4 Replies View Relatedbooting my cpu because it hangs at the loading screen. I have read a lot of posts but none of them help because I can't get the cpu in safe mode. I have tried all the options and all kinds of boot disks. It won't let me use my keyboard to highlight any of the options where it says windows had problems loading and gives several options like safe mode or last good config. The keyboard will let me into the bios but after that it won't work. f8 won't take me to safe mode and it won't boot to the cd either. I had this problem once a few weeks back but I created a boot disk and after I booted from that for several times it started booting on it's own. I got the boot disk from a web site but it wasn't an xp boot disk.(i think it was an 98se or me disk) Well of course now either I have lost the disk or it just won't work anymore. I need to find a way to at least boot it long enough to get the data off. the file system is ntfs and I am using windows xp pro.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy brother's computer froze so the only way i knew to turn it off was to uplug the power.. I did that and ever since then i cannot get the computer to boot up all the way it just gets stuck on the xp loading screen.. Ive tried starting in safe mode, normal mode, and "last know configuration that worked" mode.. When i boot from my boot disk i get into the window's console, i try and choose the repair option, when it lets me do this it asks for a "administrator password", i dont remeber using one when i installed windows. I know the "quick" fix is to do a complete reformat and install, but my brother has alot of work files that he does not want to loose. This is my brother's computer, i always make a backup disk of my files for this reason.. but he didnt so im stuck betweena rock and a hard place.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing a game last night (a legit game) and it freezes, so I restart and get the whole "Sorry for the inconvenience windows shut down to protect files on your computer" screen and it asks me how i want to boot up XP, either in the safe modes or Last known good congifuration or start windows normally, so i use last known and the windows loading screen comes up and the blue bar is passing by normally, but it goes for a very long tiem and eventually freezes and I have to restart. It also does this whenever I choose any other way up booting XP too. I've taken my computer apart, cleaned it, unplugged everything and plugged everything back in, read justed the harddrive and NOTHIGN works. It still gives me the frozen windows loading screen. Is there ANYTHING I can do to solve this problem short from hooking my hard drive up to another computer and seeing what's wrong from there?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer was running fine last night, but today when I tried turning it on, it came up with "Error Loading OS" on the boot up screen. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy friend has a XP Home OS. When he fires up his computer, that sucker wont boot past the little loading bar. It just stays there indefinently. I had him boot off the 6 XP boot discs and run "FIXBOOT" to re-write the boot sector, still nothing. We booted up off the XP-CD and ran the setup so we could run the repair (R), files loaded and the computer restarted. Still nothing happened. The files that remain on his computer are so fragile that doing a fresh install of his OS would be a disaster. Any thoughts as to restoring the computer?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used a program to delete hidden files from loading up on boot. Two were casino files that I had already deleted. I unchecked the boxes to prevent them from loading up. I then became creative and kept going. Apparently I uncchecked a file to load up win xp pro. Now I get the blank screen that says "invalid boot diskette, insert boot diskette in A:" I do but it is not reading the A: drive. I then tried to get into setup to change the boot sequence to cdrom first but the blank screen asks me to enter a password. I never needed a password to get into setup before. When I type my system passwore and hit enter all that appears is an X, after three times it kicks me back to the insert boot diskette page.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am having a major problem logging into windows. When I get to the log on screen, and click my user name (the only one available) it gets stuck on "loading personal settings".My first reaction was to boot from CD, at which point I could not get my USB keyboard to work during the boot which made it impossible to "hit any key to boot from CD", so I fixed that by plugging the keyboard into the default keyboard port with an adaptor.
When I managed to boot from CD, I tried to do a repair install and got the message "Setup cannot find Hard disks bla bla cannot continue, windows will restart".
How can i load at boot-time xp's checkdisk (chkdsk)? What does the OS modifies so that disk check can start when I reboot. (the same when you right click on partition -> props -> tools -> check disk)?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition. When booting up, Windows goes directely
to loading files and takes at least 20 minutes before the sign in screen
appears. Do you have a answer to solve this problem?
At present, I have a screen that keeps saying 'error loading operating system'. To start I had Wn98se, installed WnXP Pro. The files and settings transer wizard did it's thing copying but didn't work upon install. I have 98 start up disk .. but nothing for the XP. (Was having trouble with update downloads / installs from micro.) but over all the system was working fine. I have Norton 05 Premier / goback if I can get to it. I just installed a new hard drive, 'Steup' had identified hd but I never got windows to open. Can't say that I know what happened,, seems to me that it asked about partitions. I do not understand much about that, never have changed or used. My guess, they work like seperators on task bar?? Next I think it wanted to install OS, I figured okay, but why?, it should already have XP on it (old drive) I left old as primary. Then it got to where it was saying it would 'format'. Wait a minute, I know enough to know I'd lose everything, so I rebooted. I've tried a number of time to see if I missed something. I finely decided to open the pc, disconnect the new drive and get back on track. I've tried the 'F8', pays no attention to that. I thought if I could get in to safe mode, I could use my 'GoBack' - which would clear out mistakes or whatever is causing trouble.
I can get a screen that asks if I want to boot from ST32 (my old), from CD-Rom, floppy and SCSI (whatever that is?). I've tried the hd, still get the error. I dont have any start up devices (was waiting to make -trble with the updates yet). So I put my WnXP disk in and same error,, but if I fool around with it (time it just right) I can get it to where it wants to install. "Welcome to setup" it can set up xp. Gives me a partition that looks like what I'd expect my hd to look like, scary part is the free space is the same amount. Have option of 8MB space, that won't work,, tried it . So I'm brave and hit in stall on what I think is my old hard drive. I then get told it has to "format",that's such a nasty word. I have not gone any further. I have a choice of NTFS / 32,, old was 32. Before I go further is there a floppy / disc / download / a tool, that I could purchase to get into safe mode? I thought I'd give my old 98 Norton Rescue floppy a try - nope, but I got what loked like dos prompt. I just didn't know how to move from the A:> to a command that would get me into safe mode. Or better yet, my WNXP I had running. I read here that there wasn't any problem with using NTFS and 32 on same pc. I'm wondering if I have to should I pull the old hd connection (just to be sure), install the new hd get it up and running and then later come back to transferring what I want. OR because my old was 32, stick with 32, and not set myself up for more problems?? I have a full back up on CD of my old HD, would there be anything there I could use to get back into safe. Sorry I'm not better at this,, if I were I'd probably not be in this mess. Could it be I have a bad XP? They been trying to clear up the 'update' thing but nothing has worked.
I'm experiencing some strange behaviour with my XP SP2 PC. This morning I ran microsoft update, and saw that 2 security patches hadn't been installing for about a month. I decided to boot into safe mode to try and get them, but then it asked me to reactivate windows, which I did over the phone and now all fine on that front.
However, the problem I'm now having is that certain services aren't loading when XP loads. For example, the desktop appearance, along with windows explorer, for example, looks like it's win98, i.e. no fischer price look, just plain old grey boxes. Also, the network services aren't loading so I can't get online with my router. Another: when I try opening help and support, I get the following message: Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service names 'Help and Support'.I'm not running in safe mode, and msconfig shows me as being in normal start up - load all drivers and services. In the services tab there are only 4 services running, which I'm pretty sure is seriously fewer than any machine running normally.
Unfortunately I can't run system restore: for some reason it's only got two saved in total, one that I did about 10 minutes ago, and another system one, about 15 minutes before that. Fortunately, NOD32 seems able to load, and a scan reveals no viruses. One more crucial thing: after I initially went to msconfig to arrange a safe boot on next boot (I have a usb keyboard so can't f8), I got a blue screen of death. So perhaps some boot files have become corrupted?
I have been attempting to fix my friend's laptop after it stopped loading Windows correctly yesterday. It apparently froze on her and when she rebooted it, it would come up with a screen that said: My friend has a lot of files that she really needs so I wanna try solving this without reformatting.
