Accounts :: Picture Password Hidden - Cannot Enter BIOS
Jun 6, 2014I had a picture password, but it hid itself, since I got it wrong to many times. I do not have a pin password, regular password, password reset disc, and I cannot enter the bios. So my question is, how do I get to my picture password, without a the choice to enter my computer, since I forgot my password. Let me give the details. I go to my picture password, and get it wrong to many times, so it then closes the window and goes to the regular password screen, but there are no sign in options. But In the password settings it says the picture password is still there, so is the picture password hidden, deleted, or do you have to be in the password settings to get it back? I have forgotten my regular password, and do not have a pin password.

May 5, 2014I need to install Hyper-V, to run Windows Phone 8 emulator on my machine. But I am(actually my system) not able to complete the installation process.
When I enable Hyper-V in the window, it asks for a restart. After restart, during logon screen, it shows Updating. At around 91-95%, system shows "We couldn't complete the features. Restarting." And system rolls back. I want to really use WP8 emulator.
Also my system meets all the necessary system requirements for Hyper-V, already checked via CoreInfo, and Virtualization is ON in BIOS.

Jun 14, 2014I have many virtual machines in my VMWare Workstation install on Windows 7. I have now let Windows 8.1 lose on the bare metal of this machine as a dual booting system. I have enabled Hyper V on 8.1 to "play around with it and when I went to install VMWare the installer quit stating Workstation could not be installed with Hyper V installed. I don't have to know about Hyper V was just going to play around with it but VMWare will always be my main virtual platform.

Sep 15, 2014I enabled Hyper-V on my computer. When it restared I saw it was configuring Hyper-V. I didn't opened Hyper-V the same day. Two days later, I wont to open Hyper-V but I can't find it anywhere! Also, it isn't listed in programs anymore... I also enabled virtualisation in the BIOS.

Jul 10, 2014I've installed Win Pro 8.1 on a new desktop and added the Hyper-V feature. Checking the bios shows Virtualization is enabled, and I contacted intel about the processor who verified it supports virtualization (dell said it doesn't). I can start the VM manager, create an Internal Lan Switch and go through the steps to create a new VM machine. When I click on Connect the VM window opens, then I start it. At that point the VM screen says "Connecting to Vm1. It cycles through for a while then shows an message " it couldn't start try again if this persists contact your system admin" (paraphrasing). What I find more odd is the bottom pane that opens in the VM manager when I connect to the VM shows the VMs state(?) and the image loads with a login screen.
One other thing, when I try to stop the virtual machine in the Manager it says stopping but never really does it hangs up. The manager is responsive but no commands seem to execute. I then go to Services in msc and stop it and it says stopping the service and hangs there with the service grayed out and not able to select start, stop, refresh etc.
Virtualization :: Hyper-V On MS Surface Pro - Can't Connect To Internet
Oct 13, 2013I have a Microsoft Surface Pro where I have installed the Hyper-V manager and so on. I have made a virtual external switch and a virtual machine with Server 2012 on it. It connects fine to the switch. The Hyper-V makes a virtual bridge and all seems fine. But the guest does'nt get an IP adresse, and can't connect to the internet/LAN.
I have made the exact same setup on my laptop connected to Ethernet and there is no problem at all.
Does the Surface Pro Wireless have a problem with Hyper-v ?

Dec 12, 2013I just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.
I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.
Enter Password Black Screen Doesn't Accept Correct Password?
Aug 12, 2014I tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

Sep 15, 2014I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

Some MB's have a small Internet Browser built in to the BIOS which can be activated at boot time before loading the OS.
Perhaps even if loading a file system into the BIOS wasn't possible perhaps by selecting this type of option in the BIOS Windows could issue a prompt for the ISO once it could read the file system before loading the rest of its code.
Can't Boot Other Than BIOS?
Apr 10, 2014Last night before going to bed my laptop said it was going to update within a day. I closed the lid as usual and the next day, when I opened it, it was stuck on a blank screen for a few minutes then up came the Asus screen, then into Automatic Repair, then Diagnosing your PC, then "Repairing Disk Errors. This might take more than an hour to complete."
I let it run for about 4 hours but with no effect. I tried a few times to no avail. No matter what I do - F8, F10, F12 - I can't do anything other than get into Bios. I fiddled around with some options, but there weren't many and nothing worked. Finally, I removed the hard drive and attached it to another laptop with a caddy and couldn't get in - it is corrupted and unreadable.
So do I simply need a new hard drive? Or is it possible the problem is even worse? A friend says he has a tool that might be able to retrieve some of my files, but at least my most important ones are in Dropbox.
The other concern I have is that even when I install a new hard drive, I don't know how to get an operating system back up. The laptop didn't come with a disk. How do i go about installing an OS? Windows 7 would be preferable, although it did have 8 on it previously.
The laptop is Asus Ultrabook S400C. It doesn't have an internal cd drive.

Sep 11, 2013I have a new Windows 8 laptop and have acquired Windows 8.1 RTM. The install, unlike the Windows 8 install, prompts me for a key. When I installed Windows 8, the installer simply picked up the key stored in the BIOS, as there was no prompt.
Now, however, in 8.1, there is a prompt, and of course I have no way of obtaining the actual key in the BIOS. Is there a way to either force it to pick the key somehow, or is the true way to read the encrypted key in the BIOS so as to enter that at the prompt?
Windows 8.1 BIOS Crash?
Feb 18, 2014I was installing nvidia gfx card update today when my computer crashed. When I went and restarted it and tried signing in I get preparing windows forever and nothing seems to happen.
So I held shift and pressed restart to get to the troubleshoot/bios menu and then click troubleshoot when I click anything in there such as restart in safe mode or open cmd in order to run a scandisk my computer seems to crash and go to a black screen but the blue light indicating power on my computer stays on.
My OS is installed on a ocz ssd and the only thing I can think of is that my harddrive died.

Jun 13, 2013I have a question about the looks of my BIOS startup screen. I have a relatively new ASUS laptop and i instaled windows 8 on it as soon as possible because ASUS had a free upgrade action.
Everything went well but what i noticed is that when i boot up and the BIOS runs i get in stead of the windows 8 logo with the loading-circle the ASUS logo with the logo circle. Its not annoying or something but i just want the windows logo because i think its nicer.
My friend said it had to do with a BIOS or boot configuration with a ASUS fancy patch switched on.
Ans yes ive already tried replacing my bootres.dll file but it wont give me permission to rename the old bootres file and the new file does not contain the windows logo.

Nov 22, 2013I think this is more a BIOS issue ... My packard bell PC stucked during a reboot, this happens when i leave a toshiba usb drive attached during the reboot circle, so I ctr-alt-canc without the usb drive attached and the OS wont boot because the internal drive boot order is messed up...
I restored the correct order and the OS starts up. BUT the boot process now display an ACER logo instead of packar-bell
the bios time is ok so i don't think is a battery problem. What is this? some sor of BIOS virus?, the machine became self-conscious and display a dissociative disorder? can i trust this PC?

This computer also has the 64 bit edition of Windows 8 installed on it. Windows 8 is driving me up the wall!!! I have had numerous problems with it since day 1.
As recently as a few days ago, my system was running reasonably okay. Then I downloaded a driver for my network card from the dell.com website. From that point on, I cannot get my computer to boot up properly. I have turned my computer off and on multiple times in hopes that it would correct whatever is wrong.
When I first turn my PC on, it will stay stuck at the Dell logo window for a while.
Sometimes it will make it past that and it will give me an error message that says:
"error sending end of post message to ME, system HALT!"
Also, I sometimes get a message which says:
"the last USB device you connected to the computer malfunctioned, and Windows did not recognize it.
Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly."
This is insanity. I have NOT connected any new USB devices to my computer.
I do not know what to do. I figured that the easiest thing might be to try simply reinstalling Windows 8 from scratch. So I inserted my Windows 8 reinstall disk that Dell sent me when I bought this thing. However, my computer will not boot from this disk. So I guess I am stuck.
