View 4 RepliesOn my computer there is a pre-installed Windows 8 which works fine for UEFI boot (Secure boot not necessary).
Now when I switch in UEFI setup at boot time the UEFI mode into the CSM (BIOS) mode and restart then Windows 8 is not starting any more.
As far as I find out an UEFI-based Windows 8 can only boot with UEFI mode enabled.
So my question is: Can I turn an existing UEFI based Windows 8 installation into an CSM/BIOS based installation (=a Win8 which boots successfully even when I enable CSM in UEFI setup) ?
If yes: How do I do that?
I cannot install windows 8 in BIOS or UEFI mode.
it's getting boot and install only in EFI mode. after trying to reinstall it won't allow me to select the disk partition, as it gave me the error "
Windows 8 cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks." i tried all the given solutions on GOogle. even i cannot recover or refresh using windows 8 environment. many times it gives me BSOD. cannot vonvert to MBR as it says it cannot be done on virtual HDD.
tried many things nothing works, need to install windows 8 after every 1 or 2weeks, many a times my BCD data gets corrupt, and windows wont start. Also tried many things to repair this, but only thing that works is reinstalling windows 8.
That gpt or MBR error was solved by selecting UEFI:CD drive. in boot options by pressing F12 after inserting the disk.
My system configuration:

Ever since switching to AHCI mode, I've noticed that my keyboard has issues with the volume wheel not working properly. Also after setting up the LED lighting on the keyboard and a few restarts later, I've notice that when restarting my system the keyboard LED, blue in this case, will automatically show up and when it does, and I use the del key to get into BIOS doesn't work. I have to move the the usb connection to a different port, restart and keyboard LED will be white. This time using the del key, I can get into my BIOS no problem. This never happened when I was using native IDE mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer is so messed up Version 8.1 . I first noticed that I had a problem with Kaspersky. It said my license was unable to verify and to update data base to solve. It wont let me update. In fact it wont even let me uninstall, and secondly I cant download ANYTHING off the internet. My main problem is OFFICE keeps freezing and I need that program it also says there is a problem with my license and I have not been able to fix it it just freezes. So I thought I will download open office, but as I mentioned I cant download anything when I click run nothing happens when I click save it says corrupt or unreadable file. I thought no problem I will just hit F2 (yes I have tried hitting every single key after this and nothing) and enter bios screen and recover from my USB but do you think F2 (or any other key takes takes me there, no. Products like Kaspersky, Office, I have paid for etc say they are unlicensed which they are not. Anything I try to download, anything, like a new virus program will not work. I can't download, I cant even get into Change my PC settings it just freezes when I click this. I have had people try and trouble shoot this, Kaspersky has not gotten back to me and everyone is telling me stuff I cant do. I cant download, I cant access bios, I cant even access Change my PC settings. Ready to hear all the generic "it should" or "you should be able to"

View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows 8 has suddenly stopped to recognise my friends keyboard. Mashing Shift-F8 seems to let the keyboard work (for several minutes). All drivers are up to date, works perfectly in Safemode and BIOS. I have reinstalled windows 8 (its only used for web browsing) and nothing has worked. It is a Toshiba Satellite.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Extensa 5620Z originally came with Vista, then I clean installed Win 7, now upgraded to Win 8. Since the latest upgrade, I am unable to access BIOS or the boot menu. The black and white boot screen used to say to press F12 for boot menu, and something else for Setup, those messages are no longer there. And those key combinations do not work. I've also tried some other combinations I've found in searches - F2, Alt-F10, ctrl F10, alt ctrl F10, F8, del, esc. None work.
Could the upgrade has modified the firmware somehow? Boot screen says Phoenix bios, TrustedCore v1.32 - I think that is the same it has been.
I have lenovo g580 cori7 and installing windows8 64bit. I tried to update the bios but i got this just like the screen shot.
Now my labtop working on legacy mode and I am not comfort with this mode.
I have a windows 8 64 bit lenovo g 580 20157 ...

Ok so i have 2 months lenovo ideapad z580 laptop..i am unable to access UEFI BIOS menu and boot menu anymore these were the steps i tried with my laptop.
1) I have windows 8.1 tried going to pc settings and selected uefi settings on restart But the problem still persist the laptop is just doing normal windows 8 boot
2) Tried pressing/hitting F1,F2,F12,DEL keys
3) I have also used lenovo one key recovery button there it showed "bios setup" when i selected it and hit enter it is just doing normal windows 8 boot still i can't access uefi bios
4) Tried updating BIOS for the laptop but unfortunately there was no bios update for this model
5) Tried resetting Laptop by removing battery and ac adapter and pressing and holding power button for 30 seconds but still no use i can't access BIOS yet
6) I tried removing the internal hard drive Out of the laptop and this time one starnage thing happened " before with internal hard drive i used to get lenovo splash screen when turning ON but after removing hard drive and when i try to access bios i can't see the lenovo splash screen at all" still i can't access BIOS!!!
7) I even have tried holding down Shift key, letter B when starting up the laptop but still didn't work seems like windows 8.1 makes changes to BIOS?
Win 8 Pro..I am trying to fix an error that is causing my desktop to randomly reboot.
I wanted to run chkdsk from safe mode, however, tapping f8 doesn't work for me.
Tried to restore a backup and paragon merged all the drives into one file and says the structure is different and I may lose data.
Win 8 will not let me stop chkdsk with any key press.
I am trying to recover the old F8 menu which I can access the safe mode
I can't see the startup setting in the advanced option menu

i have just discovered my desktop mode is completely dead of internet connection, I cant use utorrent or email etc. the metro works fine its just the desktop that's dead. I run wireless
View 7 Replies View RelatedLast week my laptop had trouble starting up, it had a problem with atidvag.dll if I recall. I wasn't sure what to do but I got lucky and after a few attempts in managed to boot. Now however it doesn't even get to the point where it could tell me what is wrong, no Windows logo. Just straight in black screen with a cursor in the top left. F2 will take me to BIOS (if I am quick), but no other keys work. Booted onto installation media to try startup repair, no joy, rollback also no joy, tried using command line following the instructions here to force a boot into safe mode but no joy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just built a desktop with a sabertooth x79 motherboard, and am running Windows 8.1 pro 64-bit. When I click the UEFI BIOS Firmware live tile via the change PC settings>update and recovery>recovery>etc. my computer reboots normally to Windows and will not open BIOS. I have tried accessing it using the delete and f2 keys, but this does nothing either.
I am up to date in terms of my BIOS, and am definitely running UEFI and not legacy.
My screen seems to have a grey filter overlaying it. See attached.
When i booted it in safe mode, the screen is showing the right vibrant colors. When i booted it back to normal mode, the screen is greyish but strangely the mouse is showing the correct white color.
I have googled across numerous website but none of them bring me closer to the issue. I have read the thread, Personalize Suddenly Greyed Out but this is not what i encountered. The options or buttons or selections did not grey out, it affects the screen only.
I cannot afford a system restore because i shared this laptop with my gf.
Windows network and sharing center says that no Internet access but Internet is working (sort of conditionally ) This is a desktop computer with LAN Connection . only one adapter is shown in network devices. Currently we are in domain environment and behind Microsoft tmg.
When proxy settings are set to auto detect then browsing is not working on internet explorer 10 but it's working flawlessly in Chrome. however manually entering the proxy settings browsing is Internet Explorer works.
I tried browsing by ip address in internet Explorer but no luck. It's only on this one pc.
Windows is updated regularly. Scep 2012 is installed with latest definition and found no issue.
I have tried twice to Reset the windsock and tcp ip stack. Still same result. Uninstalled network card drivers still no luck.
Ip is assigned by DHCP. I manually entered ip settings no luck.
Scan with malware bytes anti malware found three malwares and quarantined but still no luck.
Network cable is tested ok.
Reset internet explorer settings and restart pc but still no luck.
Removed Internet Explorer and restart computer and then installed again and restart and still no luck.
Also tried disabling ipv6 no luck.
Internet Explorer 10 is needed as we have some custom applications that won't work with ie 11.
However when I login with another account (another domain user account) all is ok i.e. browsing in IE with auto detect proxy settings is working and also the network icon is not showing no Internet access.
i have a laptop with windows 8 original..how to get the key from bios to use it on another pc ?..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like a feature in a Bios to enable an ISO on the HDD to be a selectable boot device.
Some MB's have a small Internet Browser built in to the BIOS which can be activated at boot time before loading the OS.
Perhaps even if loading a file system into the BIOS wasn't possible perhaps by selecting this type of option in the BIOS Windows could issue a prompt for the ISO once it could read the file system before loading the rest of its code.
Last night before going to bed my laptop said it was going to update within a day. I closed the lid as usual and the next day, when I opened it, it was stuck on a blank screen for a few minutes then up came the Asus screen, then into Automatic Repair, then Diagnosing your PC, then "Repairing Disk Errors. This might take more than an hour to complete."
I let it run for about 4 hours but with no effect. I tried a few times to no avail. No matter what I do - F8, F10, F12 - I can't do anything other than get into Bios. I fiddled around with some options, but there weren't many and nothing worked. Finally, I removed the hard drive and attached it to another laptop with a caddy and couldn't get in - it is corrupted and unreadable.
So do I simply need a new hard drive? Or is it possible the problem is even worse? A friend says he has a tool that might be able to retrieve some of my files, but at least my most important ones are in Dropbox.
The other concern I have is that even when I install a new hard drive, I don't know how to get an operating system back up. The laptop didn't come with a disk. How do i go about installing an OS? Windows 7 would be preferable, although it did have 8 on it previously.
The laptop is Asus Ultrabook S400C. It doesn't have an internal cd drive.
Where I can download an 8.0 iso. My product key is contained within the bios.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new Windows 8 laptop and have acquired Windows 8.1 RTM. The install, unlike the Windows 8 install, prompts me for a key. When I installed Windows 8, the installer simply picked up the key stored in the BIOS, as there was no prompt.
Now, however, in 8.1, there is a prompt, and of course I have no way of obtaining the actual key in the BIOS. Is there a way to either force it to pick the key somehow, or is the true way to read the encrypted key in the BIOS so as to enter that at the prompt?
I was installing nvidia gfx card update today when my computer crashed. When I went and restarted it and tried signing in I get preparing windows forever and nothing seems to happen.
So I held shift and pressed restart to get to the troubleshoot/bios menu and then click troubleshoot when I click anything in there such as restart in safe mode or open cmd in order to run a scandisk my computer seems to crash and go to a black screen but the blue light indicating power on my computer stays on.
My OS is installed on a ocz ssd and the only thing I can think of is that my harddrive died.

is there a way to set-up a bios password in hyper-v i need a screen shoot of it for my Btec level 3

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the looks of my BIOS startup screen. I have a relatively new ASUS laptop and i instaled windows 8 on it as soon as possible because ASUS had a free upgrade action.
Everything went well but what i noticed is that when i boot up and the BIOS runs i get in stead of the windows 8 logo with the loading-circle the ASUS logo with the logo circle. Its not annoying or something but i just want the windows logo because i think its nicer.
My friend said it had to do with a BIOS or boot configuration with a ASUS fancy patch switched on.
Ans yes ive already tried replacing my bootres.dll file but it wont give me permission to rename the old bootres file and the new file does not contain the windows logo.
In the advanced option I got no BIOS options there. How do I find it or I missed something?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a thorough search, I didn't find anyway possible to embed a key inside BIOS just like the OEM manufacturers do. The case scenario is quite simple:
Using NoOS(Ubuntu/Dos) laptops that also get marketed with pre-installed Windows 8.X. Purchase bulk OEM, and prepare the laptop to work with exactly the same setup (e.g. UEFI BIOS embedded Windows key) as if it was purchased pre-installed.
On a new Win 8 laptop I can't boot from a USB flash drive or even a CD unless I turn off secure boot in the BIOS?
This surely can't be progress?
I think this is more a BIOS issue ... My packard bell PC stucked during a reboot, this happens when i leave a toshiba usb drive attached during the reboot circle, so I ctr-alt-canc without the usb drive attached and the OS wont boot because the internal drive boot order is messed up...
I restored the correct order and the OS starts up. BUT the boot process now display an ACER logo instead of packar-bell
the bios time is ok so i don't think is a battery problem. What is this? some sor of BIOS virus?, the machine became self-conscious and display a dissociative disorder? can i trust this PC?
