View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using IE 11 desktop.
In Settings/Internet Options/General I entered an address to be used as my home page by clicking 'Use Current'.
I also selected 'Start with Home Page', applied the settings and Ok'ed.
On the Home Page icon on the toolbar I elected to 'Use this page as your only home page'.
Just to avoid the obvious question: Yes, I WAS on the page I wanted to use as my home page when I took these actions.
But every time I open IE I get a blank tab and these settings have disappeared and have to be added again...and again...every day.
The IE default home page of Dell Venue Pro 11 is MSN. The link is: MSN.com. The OS is running win 8.1 and IE is ver 11.
I went to settings of IE from the desktop and changed the default from MSN to Google.com . However this did not work It keeps defaulting back to MSN.
I did a quick scan with Malwarebytes , no malware that I know of .
I have had yahoo as my home page. Recently I keep getting redirected to hsrd.yahoo or I also have seen us.lrd.yahoo also. I have a new Samsung computer with windows 8 and ie10. I can't seem to change the default home page. This is what shows up [URL]....

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 8.1 on my Laptop, I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install, when I opened Internet Explorer it went to my usual home page??
How is that possible? I have not set up a home page since installing Windows 8.1.
The case is pretty much, having to push down (with not much force) where the harddrive and RAM is and where the enter key is whilst pressing the power button, sometimes this doesn't work, it normally turns on then turns off within a second, once it turns on it's fine but if it gets moved the slightest bit it just turns off, i've opened it up, checked the HDD connection and it seems okay, check the wiring of the laptop and it's all fine and the RAM is in snug, the screws are all in

View 1 Replies View RelatedHere is what happened to me in the past couple of days. I was using the latest beta drivers for my GTX 560 and apparently Windows 8 downloaded and installed either a previous driver or a corrupt driver and automatically installed it. So the next day I do my typical daily reboot and I get nothing but a black screen with no response at the part where I sign in.
So after researching on my phone, I kind of came to the conclusion that I described above. I downloaded Windows 8 today (since I did a digital upgrade from Windows 7) just to put it on a flash drive so I can refresh my PC. After refreshing my PC, I was glad to see the lock screen, sign-in screen, etc.
I have tried SFC /scannow, messing around with boot up services, and running apps.diagcab. Nothing is working! NVIDIA update components refuses to install as well and I'm sure other things aren't working properly.
After I drag and drop image files onto dvd they will not stay on dvd after I restart pc. Dvd player is in usb mode. Once I fill up disc I will close it. What is causing this, possibly windows defender?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get WMC to stay-on-top but to date I have not been able to figure it out. I have looked all over the application. The research I have done tell me to do the follow within WMC;
Select: Tasks / Settings / General / Startup and Window Behavior
At this location I should see the option to "Stay on Top" but the only options available are;
1) Show a warning before displaying Web pages that are not designed for WMC
2) Show taskbar notifications
When I select about in WMC the following info is displayed;
Windows 8
version 6.2.9.00.16384
with Windows Media Center Technologies
Where I need to go to set this option ?
Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep" thread, I'm trying to configure my computer so that it never sleeps, hibernates, or shuts down unless I specifically ask it to - or if it's so starved for energy that shutting down is the only way to ensure that nothing gets damaged. The machine is never unplugged, so it should never have any reason to shut down, short of a power failure. I've had problems with this intermittently since I got this computer, and I thought I had it fixed, but last week the problem started again. The attached file is a full transcript of the Power Options Control Panel; as you can tell by how long I spent making this transcript, I've been trying to track this down for quite a while. Power Panel (8.1).txt

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy PC ignores all the power plan settings and hibernates after approximately 5 minutes without input. The computer also ignores active background processes.
My Windows Home Server backups are failing because the PC wakes up for the scheduled backup, but then ignores the process and goes to sleep in the middle of the backup. It also means that I cannot listen to internet radio or watch video unless I keep the PC awake with keyboard/mouse input.
This problem appears to have started after I installed the 8.1 update for Windows. I've tried adjusing all the power plan settings, creating a new power plan, enabling and disabling screen savers, etc.
What software (besides high performance mode in windows control panel) can lock the CPU at it's highest frequency?
My CPU is Intel Celeron Quad Core 2.00Ghz but it has a "burst" frequency up to 2.41Ghz (similar to turbo boost) and I would like it to stay at it's highest frequency since I have no worries about overheating (never goes above 42* C at full load).
The problem is the speed constantly changes between 2.00Ghz 2.03Ghz 2.07Ghz (and so on etc... in between 2.00Ghz and 2.41Ghz). And my browser speed constantly goes up and down webpages stalling and going fast causing stuttering so I wonder what software can remedy this little problem?
Or if there is some kind of overclocking software that would do something similar to locking the frequency? Tried all kinds of FSB-related tools but nada so far.

I have recently used your removal tool to remove McAfee from my laptop and manually removed Norton Internet Security. I do have Windows Defender on there.
I was wondering if i should replace Windows Defender with Microsoft Security Essential? Also I want to identify the problem with my brightness of the screen if it is software related.

Yesterday my laptop was until at night when I was editing some text file, it suddenly hang, (Not exactly because edit text file cause this error, just to clarify what I was doing) fine, then I was frustrated, so I shutdown my laptop and went to sleep. But today when I startup my laptop, after the logo, I encounter blackscreen, which stays on like that. So I force shutdown my laptop and then go into advance mode. I boot to safe mode and it seems to be fine, no freezing or hang or whatever it is. But if I want to boot normally the blackscreen would appear. And under Device Manager the Generic PnP Monitor have yellow !.
I have try to run sfc/ scannow and so on, which doesn't solve my problem. if I were to refresh the Windows, if there any way of not losing files?
When I close my Metro apps (dragging and then closing) in Windows instead of closing and exiting they stay suspended in Task Manager and I have to close them manually from the task manager..Is there a way to get them closed upon exiting the app?

When I play games or use any sort of full screen program, it refuse to stay in full screen and flickers to the desktop after a 10-30 minute period...I'm aware this is probably another program trying to take control, but I can't seem to pin it down. I've tried disabling startup programs through task manager and I've also tried ending background process, with no success.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set Chrome as my default browser and have it open in Desktop mode, but it always opens in Metro Mode if it's the default. I've tried the "Relaunch Chrome in the desktop" (lots of times), but it just beeps and stays in Metro mode. This used to work, but it suddenly changed a few weeks ago, and I simply can't work out how to get it back. I didn't change anything. (Windows or Chrome may have behind the scenes, but I didn't fiddle with any of the levers). Chrome just started launching in Metro mode one morning, and nothing I do will change that if it's the default.
The only way I can open Chrome in Desktop Mode is to set IE as the the default browser. And that is most definitely not what I want. I'm a web dev, and love the Chrome dev tools, so want it as the default.
To make things even more confusing, I've got 2 Win 8.1 machines side by side, and Chrome works exactly as I want on one of them, and not on the other. I've looked everywhere I can think of, and both systems are set up identically, from what I can see.
My dell inspiron 15r 5521 when it shuts down it'd screen goes off but the lights stay on for about three minutes when the screen has gone off the only way to completely get the lights to go off is to hold down the power button for like ten seconds I know it's not good for it but sometimes when I'm in a hurry I have to this computer is like three weeks old so what's wrong with it also how do I keep wifi on when closing the lid is there a registry hack for that? And what is fast boot ....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have strange issue with Windows 8.1 x64 Pro with Media Center. Since it was upgraded from 8, there have been issues with Software Store. Despite internet connection working fine with Firefox and other applications, Store would not connect to the internet. After long investigation I found out that Proxy server setting in Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings must be disabled in order to get Store working again. For some reason proxy server only stays disabled for the current session, which means when the windows is rebooted it comes back enabled again. My question is how to make it stay permanently disabled, as I don't use any proxy.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway laptop running Windows 8. I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity that I have "add ons" purchased for, when I type to put in the feature unlock key, after a couple days it will no longer be activated. Then when I installed the 8.1 update it will no longer accept the activation key, I can type the key in and it does not hold it. On the same note, I'm running Microsoft Streets and Trips gps software and when I go to update it,it updates like normal but after the update it still says update needed, like it doesn't "hold" any updates or key codes that I install.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Dell M6700 laptop with Windows 8, which seems to have an extremely annoying bug or feature. While working I usually have many windows open in desktop mode, such as Visual Studio, Outlook, remote desktop etc. Every now and then some of the windows decides to stay on top of the window stack. This could be a nice feature in some cases, but usually it is just bloody annoying, as e.g. when creating new email the new mail window may be buried under Outlook itself, which has for some reason decided to stay on top.
This staying-on-top behavior has occurred with multiple software including windows explorer, remote desktop, outlook and visual studio. So far I have not been able to figure out how to reproduce this, it seems to happen randomly. Usually the software has to be restarted to resume normal behavior, but at least once the window has resumed normal behavior without restarting.
Is this is a normal feature in Windows 8? Is there some weird keystroke or gesture which I happen to activate without knowing it? Could it be some third party software, which might be already installed on brand new Dell laptops? I know there are some software to force windows to stay on top, but I have not installed such.
Why Windows 8.1 is giving me so many issues. My laptop is unable to stay connected to the wifi for long and sometimes I am unable to connect. My phone and tablet stay connected to the wifi while my laptop can't. I tried all the remedies for it and yet it has issues. Is it because I had installed spotflux and tunnel bear on my laptop?
