Maintenance :: Windows 8.1 Stay On Blackscreen After Acer Logo?
Aug 13, 2014
I'm using Acer Aspire V5-573PG.
Yesterday my laptop was until at night when I was editing some text file, it suddenly hang, (Not exactly because edit text file cause this error, just to clarify what I was doing) fine, then I was frustrated, so I shutdown my laptop and went to sleep. But today when I startup my laptop, after the logo, I encounter blackscreen, which stays on like that. So I force shutdown my laptop and then go into advance mode. I boot to safe mode and it seems to be fine, no freezing or hang or whatever it is. But if I want to boot normally the blackscreen would appear. And under Device Manager the Generic PnP Monitor have yellow !.
I have try to run sfc/ scannow and so on, which doesn't solve my problem. if I were to refresh the Windows, if there any way of not losing files?

I have recently bought an Acer S670MG or M679G desktop computer with the following specs.
Intel core 2 due 3.1ghz. 6mb L2 cache.
6gb ddr3 ram at 1066mhz bus
Nvidia Geforce 9800GT 512mb/256bits external graphic card.
1tb SATA WD hdd.
And I have facing a problem that when I turned ON computer it sounds a beep and Acer Empowering People appears a couple of seconds then display is gone. then after coupe of seconds, again beeps sounds and again Acer logo appears and then starts the windows. Why this happens. because of that booting time is much longer.
In bios. I tried two hard drive modes. native ide and Raid. third is AHCI I think and this I did not try yet.

What software (besides high performance mode in windows control panel) can lock the CPU at it's highest frequency?
My CPU is Intel Celeron Quad Core 2.00Ghz but it has a "burst" frequency up to 2.41Ghz (similar to turbo boost) and I would like it to stay at it's highest frequency since I have no worries about overheating (never goes above 42* C at full load).
The problem is the speed constantly changes between 2.00Ghz 2.03Ghz 2.07Ghz (and so on etc... in between 2.00Ghz and 2.41Ghz). And my browser speed constantly goes up and down webpages stalling and going fast causing stuttering so I wonder what software can remedy this little problem?
Or if there is some kind of overclocking software that would do something similar to locking the frequency? Tried all kinds of FSB-related tools but nada so far.

After windows 8.1 update (via windows store free upgrade) the system will go through its initializing sequence then go to a black screen w/ pointer.
I have this issue both in windows and safe mode. I have attempted to follow these steps and while I can try this, non offer the ability to install anew driver. Here it stays.
I have read this is normally caused by a graphics driver issue. In several cases the thread was closed, as the user was able to resolve the issue... but left no conclusion.
Laptop is ASUS Q400a
Asus Q400A-BHI7N03 Specifications:
Display: 14″ LED-backlit TFT-LCD HD widescreen display (1366 x 768 resolution)
Processor: 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU, 6MB L3 cache, 2.2GHz processor speed, max. TurboBoost frequency 3.2GHz
Graphics: Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1,600MHz RAM
Storage: 500GB SSD
Optical drive: DVD burner
Webcam: 1.0MP webcam
Audio: stereo speakers
Network: Wireless-N,
Gigabit Ethernet, no Bluetooth
Input: Backlit chiclet-style keyboard with numeric-pad, multitouch touchpad
Ports and Slots: 2 x USB 3.0 ports, 1 x USB 2.0 port, 1 x HDMI, media card reader Battery:
It would appear (now), during step 8 here, that the ASUS driver (VGA_Intel_Win81_64_VER101810330802) should be updated for 8.1. This seems to have been the missed step. This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. This is an observation is from self deduction.
So, How do I push/install the correct driver?

I had my Acer desktop come back from the factory a couple of weeks ago. They did a great job in reparing it, however:
When confirming that they had did everything correctly, I out of curiosity, ran the ''reagentc.exe /showcurrent'' command from an elevated command prompt. Whoops, there was no recovery image specified.
After hurting my brain somewhat, I deduced I would need to mount the ''Push Button Reset'' partition with a letter - I used ''Z'' for clarity. *EDIT* So I could locate the folder that the image was stored in, and specify it in the command..** (I used Acronis Disk Director for this simple operation)
I was then able to use the ''REAGENTC /SetOSImage ... '' commmand and specified it in the folder in my OEM Push Button Recovery partition.
My question is this, if I unmount the letter Z, and therefore make it a hidden partition, I guess that Windows won't be able to find it if I need to do a recovery? Would you know of any work a round, or if I could perhaps use another command to specify the OEM recovery image, which is located in that hidden partition.

It's an acer aspire v5-573PG, specs are
Intel Core i7 4500U (1.80GHz)
8GB Memory 1TB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
I have had this AWFUL buzzing sound accompanied by what seems to be a frame or so of lag when playing video games, watching Youtube videos, or watching windows media player videos. It sounds like the buzzing sound when you get a blue screen of death and it occurs about every 30 seconds. It comes through the speakers and I have tried different earphones to no avail. I found a youtube video showing the EXACT same sound I recieve!
Url....
It's the buzzing sound about 3-7 seconds into the video. My buzzing / stuttering is nowhere near as severe-at least not yet. In fact it seems to have started about week ago, very rarely I was hearing some static while watching youtube videos but it wasn't much and I figured it was from the headphones. I've been having all kinds of problems with my disk and memory usage. I've had some programs hogging outrageous amounts of my disk such as windows protection and now periodically, windows modules installer worker. Something is wrong. This should be a powerful laptop more than capable of handling basic idle windows. Even when I have just firefox and windows media player open.Is something like windows media player supposed to take so much of my disk? I have updated everything I can including my graphics card and the sound drivers.
This is what I get from sfc /scannow

I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my Acer Aspire 5515 notebook. I set the time and date on the desktop clock, and every time I log in, the time and date are wrong and I have to reset them again. I have a dual boot setup with Windows 8 on one partition, and Ubuntu 12.10 on the other.
It doesn't appear to be an issue with the hardware of my computer, because the time and day stay set in Ubuntu. Some time ago, I was running a boot time diagnostic, and I got a warning the the was not timer connected to the apic...but that's all I could read before the message disappeared, I researched what I could and learned that this could and learned this had something to do with a physical component of my processor or related to my processor, but was unable to find out any more. As far as I know, this is the only hardware problem I have, and I thought this might be the cause of my erratic time/date.

After installing a clean install of Windows 8 on my Dell Inspirion N5050, startup does get past the Dell logo and onto the Windows loading logo. However, it won't go further than this. The logo goes away, leaving the screen blank (NOT black) and it won't continue to the logon page or start menu. All lights are burning (meaning it's working somewhere underneath that weird blank screen). And the funny thing that when I press the power button (or close the lid) to put it to sleep and then wake it up by pressing again, the logon/start menu is there and Windows is working perfectly.
In short: everything works perfectly, except that I have to put the computer to sleep and wake it back up in order for me to see/get into windows.

Here is what happened to me in the past couple of days. I was using the latest beta drivers for my GTX 560 and apparently Windows 8 downloaded and installed either a previous driver or a corrupt driver and automatically installed it. So the next day I do my typical daily reboot and I get nothing but a black screen with no response at the part where I sign in.
So after researching on my phone, I kind of came to the conclusion that I described above. I downloaded Windows 8 today (since I did a digital upgrade from Windows 7) just to put it on a flash drive so I can refresh my PC. After refreshing my PC, I was glad to see the lock screen, sign-in screen, etc.
I have tried SFC /scannow, messing around with boot up services, and running apps.diagcab. Nothing is working! NVIDIA update components refuses to install as well and I'm sure other things aren't working properly.

I have been trying to get WMC to stay-on-top but to date I have not been able to figure it out. I have looked all over the application. The research I have done tell me to do the follow within WMC;
Select: Tasks / Settings / General / Startup and Window Behavior
At this location I should see the option to "Stay on Top" but the only options available are;
1) Show a warning before displaying Web pages that are not designed for WMC
2) Show taskbar notifications
When I select about in WMC the following info is displayed;
Windows 8
version 6.2.9.00.16384
with Windows Media Center Technologies
Where I need to go to set this option ?

Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep" thread, I'm trying to configure my computer so that it never sleeps, hibernates, or shuts down unless I specifically ask it to - or if it's so starved for energy that shutting down is the only way to ensure that nothing gets damaged. The machine is never unplugged, so it should never have any reason to shut down, short of a power failure. I've had problems with this intermittently since I got this computer, and I thought I had it fixed, but last week the problem started again. The attached file is a full transcript of the Power Options Control Panel; as you can tell by how long I spent making this transcript, I've been trying to track this down for quite a while. Brand new Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook with Windows 8. 256 SSD, 8 gigs of memory, i5-3317, non touch screen. Working fine for 2 months and now will not boot after Dell logo. Have been on tech support three times still not solved. They sent a USB recovery drive and does not boot. They sent an optical drive and the windows recovery disc; still not working! Not a novice at this but fully stumped. Cannot get to a C prompt, cannot get into Safe mode. Am able to get into BIOS but is limited in what can be done there. Diagnostics says everything is fine. Am ready to go back to Windows 7 until they work the bugs out.

Is there any way to set up a hotkey using the windows logo button in sequence with another? for example "Win + Z" or "FN + Win". I have classic shell downloaded on my windows 8.1 laptop, and I want to set up a hotkey for the metro start screen. I'm aware of how to make a hotkey through a shortcut's properties, but there's no way to use the windows button as one of the keys.

My PC ignores all the power plan settings and hibernates after approximately 5 minutes without input. The computer also ignores active background processes.
My Windows Home Server backups are failing because the PC wakes up for the scheduled backup, but then ignores the process and goes to sleep in the middle of the backup. It also means that I cannot listen to internet radio or watch video unless I keep the PC awake with keyboard/mouse input.
This problem appears to have started after I installed the 8.1 update for Windows. I've tried adjusing all the power plan settings, creating a new power plan, enabling and disabling screen savers, etc.

I Have a problem with my HP NV6-1126SA Laptop which came with Windows 8. I have done a windows 8 update which has caused my screen to become very dim. I have tried
The basic adjusting setups for example the FN and brightness key which does not work. The lower right corner adjust which are on full and still no effect on the screens brightness.Scanned with Anti-MalwareBytes and removed the two trojansThe SFC Scan had repaired some of the errors except the brightness of the screen.Disk Check found no errors
I have recently used your removal tool to remove McAfee from my laptop and manually removed Norton Internet Security. I do have Windows Defender on there.
I was wondering if i should replace Windows Defender with Microsoft Security Essential? Also I want to identify the problem with my brightness of the screen if it is software related.

When booting, my windows 8.1 is slow to do load. After windows logo, it goes to a black screen for around 10 secs, then it finally logs into the Start menu. I know this is not normal because I have seen the system boot faster in the past, but I don't know why its doing it now.
I have done a fresh install of windows 8 and update to 8.1. I made to to have Fast Boot enabled.
I have haswell, so I made to update to the latest graphics drivers by Intel.
On a second note: I am triple booting: osx/linux/win with Chamelon boot loader. However, I doubt its an issue with triple boot because the black screen occurs AFTER windows logo, meaning windows has successfully loaded.

My computer randomly crashed while I was playing watch a stream and talking to a friend on mumble. The first blue screen gave me an error and had a text saying critical damage or something like that. After the computer restarted, it gave just a blank blue screen after the windows logo and would stay like so for several minutes before restarting again. I tried the shift + F8 method to try and get into safe mode, but it did not work. I also thought it may or may not have been my ram so I individually took out my ram and tested each single one. It still came to the same result. I also tried using my backup RAM, but had the same result. I am able to get into bios however, but after that I cannot even pass the logo screen.
Specs:
OS: Win 8 Pro x64
GFX: MSI GTX 680
MOBO: Asus M4A87TD EVO
Processor: AMD PHENOM II X6 1100T
Ram: 16 GB Patriot Memory
HDD: Hitachi 2TB (As boot and storage)
PSU: 1000W BFG

I upgraded my Dell XPS10 from Windows RT 8 to Windows RT 8.1 Preview.
It has 2 serious issues:
1) Windows RT is not activated.
2) Device gets stuck at boot logo.
Now I'm trying to use a USB recovery drive to roll my XPS10 back to Windows RT 8. Unfortunately I failed to use the recovery files from Microsoft Surface RT, XPS10 could not boot with those files.

I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 8. I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity that I have "add ons" purchased for, when I type to put in the feature unlock key, after a couple days it will no longer be activated. Then when I installed the 8.1 update it will no longer accept the activation key, I can type the key in and it does not hold it. On the same note, I'm running Microsoft Streets and Trips gps software and when I go to update it,it updates like normal but after the update it still says update needed, like it doesn't "hold" any updates or key codes that I install.

I have a brand new Dell M6700 laptop with Windows 8, which seems to have an extremely annoying bug or feature. While working I usually have many windows open in desktop mode, such as Visual Studio, Outlook, remote desktop etc. Every now and then some of the windows decides to stay on top of the window stack. This could be a nice feature in some cases, but usually it is just bloody annoying, as e.g. when creating new email the new mail window may be buried under Outlook itself, which has for some reason decided to stay on top.
This staying-on-top behavior has occurred with multiple software including windows explorer, remote desktop, outlook and visual studio. So far I have not been able to figure out how to reproduce this, it seems to happen randomly. Usually the software has to be restarted to resume normal behavior, but at least once the window has resumed normal behavior without restarting.
Is this is a normal feature in Windows 8? Is there some weird keystroke or gesture which I happen to activate without knowing it? Could it be some third party software, which might be already installed on brand new Dell laptops? I know there are some software to force windows to stay on top, but I have not installed such.

The case is pretty much, having to push down (with not much force) where the harddrive and RAM is and where the enter key is whilst pressing the power button, sometimes this doesn't work, it normally turns on then turns off within a second, once it turns on it's fine but if it gets moved the slightest bit it just turns off, i've opened it up, checked the HDD connection and it seems okay, check the wiring of the laptop and it's all fine and the RAM is in snug, the screws are all in
