MY laptop starts up to start menu then I get tons of pop up saying windows system 32 cmd exe ? I CANT CONTROL LAPTOP AT ALL ! Then it crashes, I need computer for work n school and it's a new Dell so disappointing .
I bought an ASUS N56VJ laptop in February of this year, 2013. It has suddenly shut down six or seven times. This happens very randomly and with no pattern that I can see. It's not an overheating issue as I'm monitoring the temperature with ReatTempGT (and it often happens after only being on for a few minutes). I managed to find an error when I checked the event viewer that was from approximately the time that it happened. I'll post the information below.
yesterday my laptop turned off suddenly and since then, everytime I turn it on it turns off before windows loading.I isn't hard drive issue cause I checked it and it works fine on other pc.I even tried to boot from cd but again it turns off.
I know all the settings, both in power option and advanced section all settings are set to "do nothing" when closing the lid, but when i close the lid and open it later it turns on, in fact it was neither on nor sleep, power cable is connected always.
I just had a new Seagate 1TB hard drive and Windows 8 installed in my Toshiba laptop. I also had ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6 installed. The only problem I have encountered so far is that the computer shuts down if unattended for about 30 minutes. Why this is happening and what I can do to prevent it?
Last night chkdsk tried to fix errors on C: on startup after I restarted my laptop. It was taking too long so I went to sleep, but in the morning, I had trouble turning the laptop on. When it did, the Automatic startup repair ran. Now the problem is that my laptop shuts down abruptly while startup repair is running. I'm not really sure if the repair finished running but, it was still saying that it was fixing errors. Everytime I turn it on the same thing happens. I can't use the windows 8 installation ISO in my usb because I can't set it to boot using the usb and I need to change my settings first to access the bios.
I recently reinstalled Windows 8 completely because I bought an SSD for in my laptop. I exported my power plans I used before the reset (when Windows was still on the HDD) and imported them again after the reset. In every power plan, Windows should go to sleep mode when closing the laptop lid, but that's not what's happening. Instead, Windows shuts down entirely, but the power light on my laptop indicates it's in sleep mode (flashing slowly). I also tried the built-in power plans (after just adjusting the appropriate setting), but the same happens. When i change the setting to do nothing (instead of going to sleep mode), it acts like it should: it does nothing.

I recently purchased this Acer Aspire V3-531 laptop to replace my Acer Aspire netbook which had provided faultless service for 3 years. The new laptop works well, however, I have an intermittent problem when the laptop will shutdown/restart mostly straight after waking from sleep mode and once while idle.
My first build and am having problems with windows booting extremely slow, running buggy and shutting down on me randomly. It typically shuts down during strenuous tasks such as gaming and installation, but has shut down in the UEFI bios, once. When I boot back up I almost always get to the sign in menu but after putting in my password it takes a good 3-5 minutes before the start menu pops up. Sometimes it'll load up to a black screen where I can only use the mouse pointer, and access the task manager. Wondering if it's my motherboard or if it's just a driver problem. Running an ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 with an AMD 8350 black and an Sapphire 7870 XT with two sticks of cheap 4 GB 1333 MHz ram.
My system shuts off automatically sometimes when the power goes with UPS on. UPS is not giving any beeps or warning signs though. At this time UPS seems On though. But my computer shuts off as if I unplugged its power cable. My UPS battery is new and UPS is 6 years old.
When my XPS 8500 sleeps only the screen dims but I can still hear the hard drive spinning. I set it to sleep in the power options area for 5 minutes but only the monitor shuts off. If I click on sleep in the settings area it spins all the way down.
Got a custom build server - Gigabyte H87M-D3H, i5-4570, 16GB RAM. It's now running 2012 R2, but it was running 2012 initially and had exactly the same problems, which suggests hardware issues.
Nearly every night, during the night sometime, the server crashes off, and needs to be started again with the power button.
I first suspected a power issue because nothing shows in the event log.But after connecting it to a UPS and replacing the power supply (with a Corsair CX430), the issues continue.
I also get the odd BSOD - dump attached.
I've checked the following:
- Checked, rechecked and replaced all sata cables - Scanned/chkdsk all HDDs - Memtest for a few hours - sfc /scannow - UPS and new PSU as mentioned above
Every time I remove my data stick from the usb port my computer shuts off. I have used the drive tools function to "eject" the drive but it still shuts off. I'm new to WIN 8 and can't navigate very well in this new system to find any answers. Why this happens ....
I installed a clean version of windows 8 on my PC over the weekend and since then when I start it up it gets to the load screen and shuts down. When I start it up again it works fine. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard, I went to their site and downloaded the latest drivers for ethernet and chipset.
I have been getting an error message when the computer shuts down, how to fix the problem? Could this be related to sleep issues the computer is having?
(Streams League of Legends) we play alot of games together, or atleast used to... After every game his computer shuts down for some reason, he is a lazy man. So I guess that's why I am posting his problem so we can play more games like we used to. He went away for a couple months on a holiday, he is back now and ever since he got back his computer has been having this problem with his PC shutting down after the game is finished.
After a while when i'm browsing the web etc, my wireless connection goes to Limited and there are no other wireless networks available (when there should be 10+ networks).
When i disconnect that limited connection, there are suddenly no networks found and my wireless adapter disables itself and i can't re-enable it anymore. The only thing to restart my computer.
This occures after a couple of minutes. I had this problem before, but then it fixed itself for a couple of weeks and now i have the same problem again.
I've tried reinstalling my drivers, but doesn't do the trick..
I have an Asus N76VM laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 adapter.
I power up the PC and monitor, i can see the POST on the monitor, and the windows 8 loading, then my monitor starts to shut down for 1-2 seconds, its not a complete shut down, like you change resolution or refresh rate, then after 1-2 seconds i can use my PC normally.
I uninstalled my nvidia drivers, and i don't have anymore this problem....
I booted windows 8 in safe mode, and i don't have the problem....
My gpu is a gtx680 and a XL2411T monitor, with dual link DVI cable...

This started happening around 4 days ago but, since then I have system restored to a previous point and yet the problem has persisted. It has recently dropped below freezing around where I live which is unusual; however, I am in a dorm and the temperature has remained constant. I haven't really downloaded anything harmful that I am aware of in the past few days either. I also hope I got the dump files thing sorted out correctly considering there is no BSOD.
I have my Windows 8.1 setup so the display turns off in 1 minute.
I have the power options setup so that the power switch shuts the system down.
But it doesn't. If the screen is off and I press the power switch on my PC the screen comes back on. I then need to press the power switch a second time for the computer to power down.
Is there anyway to configure Windows 8.1 so that the power switch does not turn the display back on, but just immediately shuts the system down?
We just bought a new machine having windows 8 preinstalled and we use it as a server running small web apps but sometimes it just went dead when nobody touch it for long and we suspect it's the issue related to sleeping mode if it is how do we fix it?
When I upgraded to win 8.1 my screen brightness went up and i can't control it. i tried re-installing the graphic drivers but it's not working. Also my battery backup has decreased from 3.5 hrs to 2 hrs only. What do i Do?
I was looking around in the control panel and I found the system section. It had a part in it that showed my product key. Is this my actual product key for reinstalling or is it an identifier? I do like it that I can find it on OEM PCs but I don't want people looking through my control panel for it.
I using window 8.1, I can recall the Window Control Panel was on the desktop at one time, do not know if I did sometime to delete it or not, What I am asking is how do I get it back on the desktop, instead of going to the start button and right clicking to get it too open up..
I need to re-arrange partitions and one recovery partitions is blocking me. I though a factory reset would take everything back to place but it didn't.
When I search Apps either by scrolling or typing in the Apps search box, I do not have a Control Panel.
The tut from Shawn shows one but I sure don't have one.
I have a Control Panel when I select Desktop.
What have I done?
I don't now how long this has been this way because at the very first I switched, via regedit, the default to the Win 7 type of desktop. After getting all programs installed and setting made to my preferences, then I switched to Metro.
Thought I would work thru a couple of the tutorials which is when I discovered no Control Panel App.
I have the version of Windows 8.1 that does not include Remote Desktop. I want to be able to control my HTPC which is running Windows 8.1 from my other Windows 8.1 PCs. In particular, I want to be able to use one of these other PCs to launch and control the Netflix and Hulu apps.
I tried TeamViewer, but it seems to change the screen resolution when I login with it to something that is not supported by the Netflix or Hulu apps. Something like Xbox Smartglass, except instead of controlling an Xbox, I want to control another Windows 8.1 PC.
