View 1 Replies View RelatedSince updating my HP Pavillion 64 bit to Windows 8.1, I have been unable to use an HDMI cable or reduce the computer brightness. I figured it would be a simple fix: restore to before the update, and wait for the bugs to be worked out. However, every time I attempt to access the control panel to perform a system restore, the entire OS freezes. Update: I tried to power on my computer just now to no avail. Stayed on the HP loading screen for 30 min.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIS there any tool, which will enable me to controll the brightness with some re-assigned short keys ?? I have a Sony Vaio Laptop but the thing is that the utility for my laptop which is responsible for Brightness control is not comparable with Windows 8, so I am searching for some tool/software which will control my screen brightness.

Other Fn keys are normal. I can use them but just i can't use my brightness. What should i do? A person said me that "download the Fn key's driver" but i don't know which driver is.
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhat the registry key (or other option) was for the incremental brightness steps.
I am trying to figure out if I can lower the amount that my brightness changes in each "step" or click of the brightness function key. I know for a fact my display supports changing the brightness in smaller increments (You can do it with the slider in the battery settings) I just need to figure out how to change the amount that Windows increments/decrements per key-press.
I've installed windows 8 and I was able to change the screen brightness without any issues. After installing windows 8.1 however, I wasn't able to change the screen brightness. I was only able to change it when using the standard windows graphics driver, but when using the AMD driver it won't work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just yesterday finished my new computer (16Gb RAM, i5-4470k, GTX 770, Win 8.1, etc.) and I just today realized that I cannot change the screen brightness. The button is grayed out and says "Unavailable" which I know cannot be possible.
Now, i have done my research and people say that the fix is to update your drivers through the Device Manager, and I have tried that to no avail. I have tried all possible combinations of "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" drivers. None work. I have been restarting my computer after every change .
One thing that I might add is that a lot of people remedy this problem by reverting their Intel Integrated drives back to an older version, but I do not have an option to change it's drivers. It shows up nowhere in the Device manager.
My eyes are burning as I am typing this and I would even go for a third-party brightness program (if that even exists).
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I have installed all the updates provided by Microsoft but it seems like I cannot change my brightness in my laptop although it was working fine in Windows 8..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have old Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. It had windows xp sp3 and I upgraded it to windows 8 Pro. After upgrading I noticed the brightness icon on the settings had unavailable written on it. I am unable to change the brightness setting. When I point the mouse on top of the brightness icon, it reads Windows cannot adjust the brightness on this display. Also the functions keys on the keyboard for brightness don't work. Is the problem with my Quickset Driver ?
Other than this issue the laptop is working fine. The audio is working.
I have a new computer , HP recline 23 . OS is Windows 8.1 . It came out of the box with Windows 8 , so I had MS store update to 8.1. The screen is set very bright , OK for day use but too bright for night use .
My problem is that I can't adjust the screen brightness. After clicking on the charms menu and clicking on settings , the brightness icon is greyed out . It says windows cannot adjust brightness on this computer. I tried the various locations where the brightness slider may be but all the relevant screens show no brightness slider.
I don't know whether win 8 had the brightness control before upgrading to 8.1 ( I mention this because several people complain that after upgrading to 8.1 , they loss brightness control amd regained it by rolling back the driver )
I tried the update driver option but it says my driver is already updated. The roll back option is greyed out ...
BTW the display adapter shows two adapters : Intel 4600 and Gforce GT730 . How do I check which one is being used?
since I updated to Windows 8.1. My screen is stuck on dim. It's not dim enough to be unusable, but it's dim enough that I wish I could turn the brightness up. If I use the hardkeys on my keyboard to turn it up or down, the bar will go up and down, but the brightness won't change. Same goes for using the settings charm brightness bar and adjusting via control panel. I've tried updating my display and video drivers, and messing around with the battery "power plan" settings, but after all that it still won't change.

I have: Turned off adaptive brightness, told it to never dim the screen at any time for any reason under any battery plan, and still, right-on-the-dot, at exactly 1 minute, my screen turns off.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis seems to be common on all Windows 8 machines as I've tested on many. With Windows 8 if I use the laptop or tablets brightness keys, it goes up in increments it seems of almost like 10%. However if I use touch and slide my finger, you can fine tune the brightness in between. Is there any way to do something similar with the physical keys through an update or plug in? My issue is I'm sensitive to brightness so I use my laptop at the lowest setting, but even 1 notch up is too bright for me, so I'm always using my finger to try and get it right in between which is difficult.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony VAIO VPCS11X9E and my screen brightness is at the lowest setting for some reason. Also, my FN keys for the brightness setting won't work. Any means of changing the brightness does not work, this does include the brightness bar when you go into settings.
I have tried so many driver installs, checked for any missing drivers or out of date drivers, but the only one that seems out of date is my Intel HD graphics which I HAVE updated, yet the Intel driver update checker says otherwise.
I have disabled AND enabled (just in case) the adaptive brightness, but it does NOT work.
I did have Windows 7 Ultimate running on before but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 7 never had any issues with brightness. Also when I load up, even thought I have replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8, it still loads up the dual boot screen asking me which OS I want to boot with. Booting with Windows 7 will blackout a few times then it will take me to the VAIO repair system. Windows 8 obviously takes me to Windows 8.
When the laptop boots up, the large letters or 'VAIO' are bright and normal and sometimes, but not always, when it gets to the dual boot screen, the brightness is normal. However, when this does happen, as soon as I move the mouse or click a button, the brightness immediately goes back down to very dim.
When it loads up into any other system or boot program the brightness is fine. For example when I go into Sony VAIO's recovery center, the brightness is ok. Also, if I boot into something like miniXP or a separate OS on a bootable disk or USB, the brightness is fine as well.
I have tried many driver fixes, but NONE of them work!! I have tried booting up into safe mode and trying to manually install certain drivers because that apparently works, but it does not make any difference at all.
Well, I have installed Windows 8 on my laptop, but was wondering if there is a way to lock the screen brightness.
The reason being is that family members constantly mess with the brightness and sometimes leave it at 100% when using the battery. I basically want to extend the life of the battery if it is possible by disabling or locking the screen brightness at a certain level.
Working with ACER Aspire E1-510, 15.6 HD LED LCD with Windows 8.
UNABLE TO ADJUST BRIGHTNESS.
Have tried Control Panel, Fn keys.
I recently installed windows 8 on my dell laptop. The brightness is automatically set to higher than my normal settings whenever the PC boots up. It starts from the Blue Window 8 logo screen to the Select Your Operating System screen. I'm dual-booting windows 7 and 8. When it reaches the Enter your user password screen, it goes back to back to normal settings. (I always set Brightness to lowest possible). So basically this always happens when the PC boots up, But it auto-adjusts itself to my settings after I enter my password).
I installed the Ambient Light Sensor drivers for my laptop to fix the Device Manager yellow exclamation marks. But I disabled the Ambient Light Sensor service in Services.msc, but that didn't fix it ... Adaptive Brightness is also disabled..
I just reset my PC. I was installing things back onto it (firefox, Spotify etc) and all of the sudden the screen went dim. I went to settings and it says "Windows can't adjust the brightness on this display" . Restarting the computer does nothing.

Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. I haven't made any recent changes, and I noticed this about a week or so ago(I don't typically change my laptop brightness, so this could have been happening for longer). In the mean time, I've tried rolling back my display drivers, with no success, and also updating to the latest driver set, which has also not worked?
I just installed the windows 8 pro on my dell inspiron 1564 but there are ceratin problems that im facing, like when I increase or decrease the brightness of my screen my laptop reboots and when I remove the power adapter it reboots
a message comes on the screen saying your laptop ran into some problem and needs to restart
I know that the display driver is the main culprit here but where to get a newer driver?as dell is not upgrading the drivers.

I have gone into the control panel and tried changing the screen brightness but nothing seems to work. I am the system administer so I should be able to set all changes.
