Dell :: 5521 - Cannot Use Fn Keys To Control / Change Screen Brightness
Jan 14, 2013
I bought Dell 5521 2weeks ago (8gb ram 1tb hdd i5 1.70ghz). Whatever, now, i can't use my FN+F4/F5 keys. I can't control/change my screen brightness. Other Fn keys are normal. I can use them but just i can't use my brightness. What should i do? A person said me that "download the Fn key's driver" but i don't know which driver is.
IS there any tool, which will enable me to controll the brightness with some re-assigned short keys ?? I have a Sony Vaio Laptop but the thing is that the utility for my laptop which is responsible for Brightness control is not comparable with Windows 8, so I am searching for some tool/software which will control my screen brightness.
Recently I turned on my computer (Acer Aspire V5 122-P) and went to change the brightness. And using the FN keys and changing the brightness returns the same value rather than changing it. The other FN keys such as Volume +/- and turning adapters on and off still work. It is just the brightness keys. I would like a fix as I need long battery life and this is causing excessive battery drain. (I have tried turning it off and on again to no avail)...
Recently did a clean install of windows 8 on my Asus K53SV and the function keys work fine except for the brightness keys.Actually, at first i loaded the windows 7 atk package and the brightness keys worked but the volume ones didn't then i got the latest atk package and now the brightness ones don't work (the lower brightness one just dims my monitor a bit and the increase brightness just makes it brighter a bit but doesn't change the brightness value) and the volume ones do.
When I upgraded to win 8.1 my screen brightness went up and i can't control it. i tried re-installing the graphic drivers but it's not working. Also my battery backup has decreased from 3.5 hrs to 2 hrs only. What do i Do?
I have gone into the control panel and tried changing the screen brightness but nothing seems to work. I am the system administer so I should be able to set all changes.
I have tried to change my screen brightness for the first time since downloading windows 8.1(about a month ago) and it is stuck a the lowest level. I have used the keys, the settings, and even the "Adjust screen brightness" button after clicking on the battery in bottom right of screen. I looked at my drivers and checked if my "Display adapters" needed to be updated, it didn't.
I just yesterday finished my new computer (16Gb RAM, i5-4470k, GTX 770, Win 8.1, etc.) and I just today realized that I cannot change the screen brightness. The button is grayed out and says "Unavailable" which I know cannot be possible.
Now, i have done my research and people say that the fix is to update your drivers through the Device Manager, and I have tried that to no avail. I have tried all possible combinations of "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" drivers. None work. I have been restarting my computer after every change .
One thing that I might add is that a lot of people remedy this problem by reverting their Intel Integrated drives back to an older version, but I do not have an option to change it's drivers. It shows up nowhere in the Device manager.
My eyes are burning as I am typing this and I would even go for a third-party brightness program (if that even exists).
I have gone into the control panel and tried changing the screen brightness but nothing seems to work. I am the system administer so I should be able to set all changes.
I have Lenovo G580 running 8.1 with intel HD4000 and Nvidia Geforce 610 & Intel CoreI5 3210 2.5GHZ 3rd generation the problem occurs after few days from updating the Intel video card which is simply i can't change the screen brightness whether using the [function+uparrow ] or control panel, it works well when i roll back the driver so am I stuck with the old driver which i can't update or what?
I purchased a dell inspiron 5521 a few months back but i didn't get any windows 8 CD with it. I have to reinstall my windows, but when i try to do it with my friend's original windows CD, error says product key entered is different. I don't even know the product key for my windows 8.
I have accidentally deleted recovery drive on my Inspiron 5521 system during partition creation. My system is in warranty period. So I wanted to know how can I get recovery discs for the system .
One day old Insiron R 5521 of mine has a problem. I get the error -"Recovery , Your PC needs to be repaired. The application or OS couldn't load because a required file is missing or contains errors. Error Code: - 0xc0000225 File:Windowssystem32winload.efi "
I upgraded my laptop software to win8.1. My webcam in the device manager looks to the integrated camera but webcam is not working. I tested by Dell PC Diagnostics shows my webcam is installed and its picture from camera showed but windows camera app and all app don't show anything.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue - Using 8.1 on a notebook with amd Trinity APU [A6-4400m] - all the display related Fn Keys are defeated. The non-display-related Fn + keys work. I can use CCC to manipulate external monitors, brightness, etc ok but it is not a good solution.
Plug in HDMI to external monitor and I get, by default, both.. both set non-optimally. must manually defeat the onboard display, change settings on external, reset overscan, etc etc etc
Since updating my HP Pavillion 64 bit to Windows 8.1, I have been unable to use an HDMI cable or reduce the computer brightness. I figured it would be a simple fix: restore to before the update, and wait for the bugs to be worked out. However, every time I attempt to access the control panel to perform a system restore, the entire OS freezes. Update: I tried to power on my computer just now to no avail. Stayed on the HP loading screen for 30 min.
I have dell inspiron 5521 with win 8 pre install The Problem is that there is a warning in "Control PanelAll Control Panel Items System" is "Your Windows Experience index needs to be refreshed" and when I try to refresh it will continue for some time and then shutdown in between with Pop Up warning "The Windows Experience index For Your System Could Not Be Computed". And when i try check for solution in action center under Maintenance, this step show me a error i.e
"Problem: Video hardware error. Files that describe the problem: WD-20140116-2008.dmp" ....
Obviously there is no doubt that the n150+ or any Samsung note/netbook have had problems with not being able to control their devices brightness on Windows 7. This is because any driver after the OEM driver would change a particular number in the registry(regedit)
There were two fixes to this problem in WIndows 7. The simple way was to install the original VGA driver. The other was to change a specific number to 84 in the registries.
I have tried both and still can't adjust brightness with the fn keys. I've installed Easy Display Manager which is the software required to use fn key functions. Sound works automatically with or without the software.
I recently updated to 8.1 and I can't change the brightness, I have tried a lot of things. All my drivers are working fine. Playing games with this brightness setting is pretty hard.
Lenovo IdeaPad N585 Display Adapter is AMD Radeon HD 7310
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I have installed all the updates provided by Microsoft but it seems like I cannot change my brightness in my laptop although it was working fine in Windows 8..
What do I have to do to get the product keys for the installed operating system? What do I do to re-install in case of a failure. Where is my copy of the software so I can re-install it?
I have an Acer Aspire 8930G with Windows 8.1 x64 and Windows 7 x86 as a dual-boot. I use 8.1 as my everyday OS and only boot into 7 to play older games that only work with a 32-bit OS.
Ever since I installed Windows 8, I have not been able to adjust the brightness of my screen. Note that this problem started since I installed 8, not 8.1, and before I put on the copy of 7 as a dual-boot. When I use Fn+left/right (the brightness keys on my PC), the brightness slider appears on-screen and goes up and down, but the brightness of the panel doesn't actually change. Using the Charm doesn't work either, nor does adjusting it through the Control Panel.
I have tried fiddling with my Power Options in the Control Panel and disabling adaptive brightness. I have tried several different driver versions for my GPU, a GeForce 9600M GT. None of this has worked.
In Windows 7, however, the brightness controls work fine. If I want to adjust my brightness for 8.1, I have to boot into 7, change the brightness there, and then boot back into 8.1, where it will keep whatever brightness setting I was using in 7.
Is there some messed-up thing in the Registry? Is my GPU's firmware maybe just not compatible with Windows 8? I took a look at TechPowerUp's repository of GPU BIOSes, but it appears I already have the most recent one.
I have a Sony VAIO VPCS11X9E and my screen brightness is at the lowest setting for some reason. Also, my FN keys for the brightness setting won't work. Any means of changing the brightness does not work, this does include the brightness bar when you go into settings.
I have tried so many driver installs, checked for any missing drivers or out of date drivers, but the only one that seems out of date is my Intel HD graphics which I HAVE updated, yet the Intel driver update checker says otherwise.
I have disabled AND enabled (just in case) the adaptive brightness, but it does NOT work.
I did have Windows 7 Ultimate running on before but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 7 never had any issues with brightness. Also when I load up, even thought I have replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8, it still loads up the dual boot screen asking me which OS I want to boot with. Booting with Windows 7 will blackout a few times then it will take me to the VAIO repair system. Windows 8 obviously takes me to Windows 8.
When the laptop boots up, the large letters or 'VAIO' are bright and normal and sometimes, but not always, when it gets to the dual boot screen, the brightness is normal. However, when this does happen, as soon as I move the mouse or click a button, the brightness immediately goes back down to very dim.
When it loads up into any other system or boot program the brightness is fine. For example when I go into Sony VAIO's recovery center, the brightness is ok. Also, if I boot into something like miniXP or a separate OS on a bootable disk or USB, the brightness is fine as well.
I have tried many driver fixes, but NONE of them work!! I have tried booting up into safe mode and trying to manually install certain drivers because that apparently works, but it does not make any difference at all.
I have old Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. It had windows xp sp3 and I upgraded it to windows 8 Pro. After upgrading I noticed the brightness icon on the settings had unavailable written on it. I am unable to change the brightness setting. When I point the mouse on top of the brightness icon, it reads Windows cannot adjust the brightness on this display. Also the functions keys on the keyboard for brightness don't work. Is the problem with my Quickset Driver ?
Other than this issue the laptop is working fine. The audio is working.
In this screenshot you can see what pops up every time this new user logs in to our local network domain. The server name is "goodbuddy" on "TRUCKERSREPORT" domain and it seems to be running some kind of setup right at login every time. I don't want to allow this user admin rights for program changes, but i need to make it so an administrator doesn't have to enter their credentials in this every time this user logs into their computer.
I just installed the windows 8 pro on my dell inspiron 1564 but there are ceratin problems that im facing, like when I increase or decrease the brightness of my screen my laptop reboots and when I remove the power adapter it reboots
a message comes on the screen saying your laptop ran into some problem and needs to restart
I know that the display driver is the main culprit here but where to get a newer driver?as dell is not upgrading the drivers.
i have a smal probleem with My new Acer tablet. The brightness of the screen randomly changes. i did some googling and i learned the tablet is able to auto adjust the beightness. I found a sensor on My tablet and did some testing by shining on it with a pocket torch and saw with more light the brightness increased. How i want it off. I Tried switching off the adaptive settings bit it didn' t work..
possible ways to adjust one's screen brightness within windows 8 on a laptop?
for some odd reason the laptop only adjusts the brightness when on the battery and it does that intelligent adjustment crap(tried to find a more polite word....failed).
So, a few days ago the battery of my laptop died and when I charged it and power it up again I found that I can't change the brightness of my screen which I was able to few minutes before. I tried fixing it by going onto control panel>hardware and sound>power option, but it didn't work. It's just stuck. What can I do? Is my laptop broken?
