Windows 8 - Make Brightness Adjustment Fine Like When Using Touch?
Dec 19, 2013
This seems to be common on all Windows 8 machines as I've tested on many. With Windows 8 if I use the laptop or tablets brightness keys, it goes up in increments it seems of almost like 10%. However if I use touch and slide my finger, you can fine tune the brightness in between. Is there any way to do something similar with the physical keys through an update or plug in? My issue is I'm sensitive to brightness so I use my laptop at the lowest setting, but even 1 notch up is too bright for me, so I'm always using my finger to try and get it right in between which is difficult.
I've installed windows 8 and I was able to change the screen brightness without any issues. After installing windows 8.1 however, I wasn't able to change the screen brightness. I was only able to change it when using the standard windows graphics driver, but when using the AMD driver it won't work.
Recently did a clean install of windows 8 on my Asus K53SV and the function keys work fine except for the brightness keys.Actually, at first i loaded the windows 7 atk package and the brightness keys worked but the volume ones didn't then i got the latest atk package and now the brightness ones don't work (the lower brightness one just dims my monitor a bit and the increase brightness just makes it brighter a bit but doesn't change the brightness value) and the volume ones do.
the screen on my lenovo ideapad Z500 touch has dimmed and i can't adjust it back. i've tried the all the brightness settings i can find adn even updated the drivers but this hasn't worked,
I have a dell xps 12, for some reason I can't find a way to make the on screen keyboard appear automatically when I click a text entry field, like it does on phones.
I have to manually select it from the task bar each time when I use it as a tablet.
My four year autistic old sound blast his Dell touch screen. He figured out how to get to the control panel to make the sound loud even after I did a regedit and removed the sound icon from the side smart panel or whatever that is called. I need to lock down the sound so he cannot adjust it. There must be a permission or a user I can create that does this.
I have previously posted about the recommended Windows OS for my new laptop... and Then I decided to install Windows 8.1 Pro alongside my previously installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit)... Is it OK to install and dual-boot Windows 8.1 Pro with Windows 7 Ultimate?
And also tell me about the partition size allocations for both Windows, I have two partitions each of 24.7 GB for both the OSes, is this size worth applicable?
Yesterday morning when I tried to start my laptop.. I couldn't... After d windows logo loading session.. i get a blurry blue screen for few seconds & den d system restarts & d same continues..
Windows is booting fine in safe mode .. I am unable to start in normal mode..
Just recently gotten a new Desktop with Windows 8 pre-installed. I've seen various screenshots and such and tried to google the answer myself but haven't had much luck. When I go to my search (Where you can view apps, settings, files, and such) the settings and files are Entirely blank. Apps seem fine but there's not a single thing in either settings or files. Is this messed up or do I have to manually change something.
Ssince updating windows to windows 8.1.1 my alienware tact x mouse keep lagging on me from time to time, i checked in device manager and everything says its working properly, but it will lag out on me for a few seconds and then work just fine. What could be doing this i did not have any issue before the update.
My web browser's works fine, all 3 in fact (Chrome,Firefox, Explorer) however, when I open my steam app (gaming program) it keeps telling me it is not establishing any internet service and to check my settings. I opened up origin and it works fine! another related note, My Nvidia Gforce Experience App that keeps tabs on latest updates for my Video card, tells me there is a new update. But when I press the green download button, it also tells me I have no internet connection... I searched under my allowed programs & apps in my firewall settings and its squeaky clean... I then did a system restore and used a restore point from 2 days ago when I know for a fact everything was running great, I still get same results.
My laptop has occasionally failed to start up (BSOD at boot) but eventually restarts correctly (after a hard restart or two) sometimes saying it is running a diagnostic and starting in a previous state. But this morning it BSODed on me a dozen times. I backed up all my data to an external drive and got the SFdebugfiles (attached).
I've recently upgraded my Dell Vostro 400 to Windows 8. Solid colors are fine, but most photos have "static" in them. The location of the static can change, and some of the picture can be fine.
Currently running a nvidia geforce 8600 gt card, Intel core 2 quad, foxconn dg33m03 motherboard. Below is an example: Untitled.png
Running Windows 8.1. Have admittedly modified it quite heavily but what I have screwed up.
Pretty much, any apps which have the purple wheel splash screen do not load (presumably crash). Normal windows settings work fine. Windows applications and Metro apps works with no hitches (I have none downloaded but default Music, Games all start with no issues).
How to fix Chrome as it is taking an unusually long time to load. It started just today a few hours ago when I logged into Facebook here in my laptop, I normally don't use it in my laptop as I just use it on my phone mainly and have a desktop at school where I submit my school files early to avoid submitting them on my laptop. But when I was forced to submit at home and use Facebook on my laptop to submit my files, Chrome then starts taking a very long time to load, about 10-15 minutes. It isn't an internet problem as were getting a pretty average 7 mbps, and strange thing is IE is working well and fine. Tried doing some research and some suggested it was a firewall issue but I doubt it, as I never tweak my antivirus settings. I tried this When Google Chrome won't start up | Computerworld Blogs but couldn't continue as I seem to be missing the debug.log mentioned and so couldn't make sure if I was having the same problem, so pretty lost at the moment.
After the 15 minute wait for chrome to open, and while I STILL have the browser open, opening new Chrome windows is then back to normal. But soon as I close my Chrome windows I then have to wait lots again. And it seems no matter how many shortcuts I try to open, I remember I clicked Chrome about 20 times it only always opens just 2 Chrome windows
what the registry key (or other option) was for the incremental brightness steps.
I am trying to figure out if I can lower the amount that my brightness changes in each "step" or click of the brightness function key. I know for a fact my display supports changing the brightness in smaller increments (You can do it with the slider in the battery settings) I just need to figure out how to change the amount that Windows increments/decrements per key-press.
My laptop running windows 8.1 (not a touch screen) - I would like to know how to use the Touch Keyboard in the windows store app. I have the Yahoo Mail app downloaded from the windows store, I want to open the Touch Keyboard inside the Yahoo Mail app so that I can insert the emoji icons.
I already knew this: Go to desktop, right click the taskbar => Toolbar => Touch keyboard. Now what, how can I make the touch keyboard popup inside Yahoo Mail app?
(Windows 8.1). I have seen a problem quite like this. IE is not my default browser. I uncovered this due to an application that is hard coded top open IE. When I open IE nothing happens. When I enter a url it just sits there like it is not connected to the Internet. No errors, nothing. When I click on the gear everything is grayed out except File, Safety and View compatibility settings. I cannot get into settings. My first thought was corrupted files. I ran SFC /scannow and no errors are reported. Also did a DSIM restorehealth.
I am stumped at this point. I have turned off IE and brought it back to no avail using the Windows Features turn off/on option. If this was any other application I would delete and re-install but this is IE. Any attempt to download and install another version is blocked by MS indicating that it is already installed. Everything appears to be operating just fine except IE.
I just yesterday finished my new computer (16Gb RAM, i5-4470k, GTX 770, Win 8.1, etc.) and I just today realized that I cannot change the screen brightness. The button is grayed out and says "Unavailable" which I know cannot be possible.
Now, i have done my research and people say that the fix is to update your drivers through the Device Manager, and I have tried that to no avail. I have tried all possible combinations of "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" drivers. None work. I have been restarting my computer after every change .
One thing that I might add is that a lot of people remedy this problem by reverting their Intel Integrated drives back to an older version, but I do not have an option to change it's drivers. It shows up nowhere in the Device manager.
My eyes are burning as I am typing this and I would even go for a third-party brightness program (if that even exists).
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and I have installed all the updates provided by Microsoft but it seems like I cannot change my brightness in my laptop although it was working fine in Windows 8..
I have old Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop. It had windows xp sp3 and I upgraded it to windows 8 Pro. After upgrading I noticed the brightness icon on the settings had unavailable written on it. I am unable to change the brightness setting. When I point the mouse on top of the brightness icon, it reads Windows cannot adjust the brightness on this display. Also the functions keys on the keyboard for brightness don't work. Is the problem with my Quickset Driver ?
Other than this issue the laptop is working fine. The audio is working.
I have a HP 310 1120a touchsmart all in one pc and my system is saying limited touch support 2 fingers, so as you can guess my touchscreen isn't working, but was under windows 7 when i got it, sometimes it works in windows 8 but not anymore, have updated all drivers but still nothing.... How to get it running again if i can .
I have a Transformer Book T100. For those unfamiliar, it is a tablet/laptop hybrid running full windows 8.1 (not RT). The screen separates from the keyboard dock at the push of a button and can be snapped back in easily.
Here's my problem: when the keyboard dock is connected, the touch keyboard still comes up on the screen if I tap a text field, resizing the current app and hogging resources. Is there a way to completely disable the touch keyboard when the physical keyboard is connected, yet have it fully available when the physical keyboard is disconnected? I have only found methods to either disable it all the time, or enable it all the time.
I am having problem with the touch keypad. It is not displaying some buttons such as that of alt, caps , windows key etc. They are all present on the On-screen Keyboard but not on the touch keypad. Although I am using touch keypad without any touch devices, I like the touch keypad more than OSK due to it's sliding feature. How to bring full layout to touch keypad. I think Windows is not providing me any option cause I don't have any touch enabled devices on my PC. How to do it from registry or configuration file or anything like that.
