I have: Turned off adaptive brightness, told it to never dim the screen at any time for any reason under any battery plan, and still, right-on-the-dot, at exactly 1 minute, my screen turns off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just yesterday finished my new computer (16Gb RAM, i5-4470k, GTX 770, Win 8.1, etc.) and I just today realized that I cannot change the screen brightness. The button is grayed out and says "Unavailable" which I know cannot be possible.
Now, i have done my research and people say that the fix is to update your drivers through the Device Manager, and I have tried that to no avail. I have tried all possible combinations of "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" drivers. None work. I have been restarting my computer after every change .
One thing that I might add is that a lot of people remedy this problem by reverting their Intel Integrated drives back to an older version, but I do not have an option to change it's drivers. It shows up nowhere in the Device manager.
My eyes are burning as I am typing this and I would even go for a third-party brightness program (if that even exists).
I have a new computer , HP recline 23 . OS is Windows 8.1 . It came out of the box with Windows 8 , so I had MS store update to 8.1. The screen is set very bright , OK for day use but too bright for night use .
My problem is that I can't adjust the screen brightness. After clicking on the charms menu and clicking on settings , the brightness icon is greyed out . It says windows cannot adjust brightness on this computer. I tried the various locations where the brightness slider may be but all the relevant screens show no brightness slider.
I don't know whether win 8 had the brightness control before upgrading to 8.1 ( I mention this because several people complain that after upgrading to 8.1 , they loss brightness control amd regained it by rolling back the driver )
I tried the update driver option but it says my driver is already updated. The roll back option is greyed out ...
BTW the display adapter shows two adapters : Intel 4600 and Gforce GT730 . How do I check which one is being used?
I just reset my PC. I was installing things back onto it (firefox, Spotify etc) and all of the sudden the screen went dim. I went to settings and it says "Windows can't adjust the brightness on this display" . Restarting the computer does nothing.

Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. I haven't made any recent changes, and I noticed this about a week or so ago(I don't typically change my laptop brightness, so this could have been happening for longer). In the mean time, I've tried rolling back my display drivers, with no success, and also updating to the latest driver set, which has also not worked?
I have gone into the control panel and tried changing the screen brightness but nothing seems to work. I am the system administer so I should be able to set all changes.

I have used the keys, the settings, and even the "Adjust screen brightness" button after clicking on the battery in bottom right of screen. i have a smal probleem with My new Acer tablet. The brightness of the screen randomly changes. i did some googling and i learned the tablet is able to auto adjust the beightness. I found a sensor on My tablet and did some testing by shining on it with a pocket torch and saw with more light the brightness increased. How i want it off. I Tried switching off the adaptive settings bit it didn' t work..

for some odd reason the laptop only adjusts the brightness when on the battery and it does that intelligent adjustment crap(tried to find a more polite word....failed).
So, a few days ago the battery of my laptop died and when I charged it and power it up again I found that I can't change the brightness of my screen which I was able to few minutes before. I tried fixing it by going onto control panel>hardware and sound>power option, but it didn't work. It's just stuck. What can I do? Is my laptop broken?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWell I've had my laptop for almost 5 months now, however I did break it and got a screen replacement yesterday. Ever since then my screen seems dim. I've altered all the settings (as explained on other threads) but I still can't get to the centre of the problem. I had no trouble altering my brightness before my screen replacement so I do presume that the screen that the shop fitted wasn't the correct one and therefore a cheap option.

This is the first hick up I've had with it so far, and I noticed it happening today. I noticed my screen was really dim today as I was using it, so naturally, I use the Fn key to turn it up, but nothing happens. Up in the top left of the screen, it shows a little brightness meter going up and down as I turn it up and down, but nothing changes. I went to the power options menu and tried to adjust it there, and alas, nothing happened. I even tried disabling the display driver and restarting it, but that didn't do anything.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently running with a HP 15.6" Envy Laptop PC, Midnight Black, dv6-7229wm - Walmart.com I have not had problems before. While I was playing Diablo 3, on medium settings, the thing just cut out. The first time, i didn't think anything about it. I turned it back on, and it turned off again twice during the HP boot logo. So i took out the battery, waited a little and started playing Diablo 3 again, and in about half an hour it turns itself off again. Each time it turns off, there is the pop of the audio going out. So, i turned MSI after burner on (I have not over clocked this system, I just have MSI to watch the heat when I was messing around one day)

The log isn't coming out how I wanted to, but it was about 95-99 for all of it. I am playing on a table (As level as a table can be on a 40 year old brick floor), with nothing anywhere near the laptop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI was using Avast, and I suspected it might be causing me certain issues, so I uninstalled it, and presently I use Windows Defender for active protection, and Malwarebytes free edition for scans.
problem is that Defender periodically turns off, and then I get an error message, and I have to turn it back on again.
I was playing Battlefield 4 for about 15 minutes, after I was finished I closed the game and my PC just died, as if I got a blue screen without the actual blue screen, fan speed of psu went to max and stayed that way until I restarted it multiple times, none of those times did it actually boot or display anything on the monitor.
Now when I start up my pc it turns on but nothing happens, display doesn't even come on and keyboard and mouse light up and turn off again.
Got a gigabyte card. Came with an intel core i53470, 3.2ghz, overclocked to 3.6. I have some problems, and everyone is telling me to turn it off.
So I'm in the Gigabyte UEFI DualBIOS Screen, looking at the M.I.T. menu, and it doesn't let me change anything. How do i undo the overclocking?
Problem with Avast turning off USB ports?
After weeks of stable computer use, I tried using Avast once again, but I noticed when I restarted, my USB mouse no longer worked. I moved it to another USB slot and it worked, so I didn't worry about it.
Then today, I noticed that the two front USB slots on my computer weren't reading anything. I remembered this problem started when I started using Avast, so I uninstalled Avast and presto, I regained usage of my USB ports upon reboot.
How to keep AVAST from turning off the ports? I couldn't see anything on google offhand. If not, I may just go back to Windows Defender.
I've upgraded to windows 8.1 a few days ago through a custom install as I was running windows 8 x86 and wanted to switch to x64. I've also just updated the BIOS.
After the upgrade though, my laptop goes into sleep/standby and locks the screen instead of turning off the display as I have it set. So, if I edit any power plan settings to turn off the display after 2 minutes, it will go to sleep after 2 minutes.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Windows 8.1 and all has been great except one thing. When I leave the computer for about 10 minutes or so, the display turns off like it is supposed to. If I want to turn the display back on though, I find I'm unable to with the mouse, keyboard, or power button. It's like it is stuck in limbo and I have to restart the PC.
