I have a HP envy m6 notebook and when im viewing websites the brightness will keep randomly changing. Why is this and how do I stop it? I've gone into the settings and turned off the 'enable adaptive brightness' but it still seems to keep happening.

I found a sensor on My tablet and did some testing by shining on it with a pocket torch and saw with more light the brightness increased. How i want it off. I Tried switching off the adaptive settings bit it didn' t work..
View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot change cameras I want to use on some websites (Skype and yahoo ok). When I go to try to select an external cam on some websites which merely show "About Adobe Flash Player" in the "camera area", I can't seem to pull up the icon which allows me to select the external camera. The internal camera works just fine on those sites, but if I disabled the internal camera "hoping the computer" would recognize the external camera as the "new default" camera, I then have no camera whatsoever on those sites.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have bought a HP envy 15 and upon using it a couple of times I turned it on again and Bluetooth had DISAPPEARED it was non existent in any settings or the Control Panel or anything except in Device Manager. After excessive clicking around I found that it had been turned off so I turned it back on.
I have used it for a while since until I turned it on today and found it to be again completely disappeared, I have tried everything within my knowledge to fix it and right now I have re-remembered how utterly worthless HP are at making hardware. I cannot find how to turn it back on again if it is the same error, but I do not think it is.
If I go into my device manager now (see image) it has the exclamation mark through it which means what exactly?? Clicking to update the driver does nothing, restarting does nothing, I can't see how uninstalling or disabling it will do anything.
I recently installed Windows 8 Pro on my Acer Aspire 5515 notebook. I set the time and date on the desktop clock, and every time I log in, the time and date are wrong and I have to reset them again. I have a dual boot setup with Windows 8 on one partition, and Ubuntu 12.10 on the other.
It doesn't appear to be an issue with the hardware of my computer, because the time and day stay set in Ubuntu. Some time ago, I was running a boot time diagnostic, and I got a warning the the was not timer connected to the apic...but that's all I could read before the message disappeared, I researched what I could and learned that this could and learned this had something to do with a physical component of my processor or related to my processor, but was unable to find out any more. As far as I know, this is the only hardware problem I have, and I thought this might be the cause of my erratic time/date.
maybe 2 weeks I get randomly BSODs, sometimes with "Multiple_IRP_Completed_Requests", sometimes with "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" errors.
It felt to me that they appeared more often after starting the computer out of standby/hibernate. But today it happend while watching a video over HDMI. After starting, Windows tells me that it wants to send the following to Microsoft (just in case it's important):

I've only recently noticed this, but the brightness on my Vaio is stuck.
FN+F5/6 does nothing at all.
Changing the slider on both Win+C - Settings - Brightness and also through the Control Panel display options both do nothing either. How to get around this?
On my desktop computer, when I try viewing youtube videos (and videos from some other sources) full screen, the toolbar across the bottom of screen in the desktop mode remains visible, blocking my view of (and use of) the player controls at bottom of the youtube player. All I can see is the seek bar moving as the video plays. If I put the toolbar in the AutoHide mode, then I can see (and use) the youtube player controls.
On my laptop with Windows 8, this problem does not exist. The entire player appears normally as if there were an "always on top" mode.
One difference is that the laptop had Windows 8 factory installed, while I installed Windows 8 over XP in my desktop. (That $39 deal offered at the beginning of the year was too good to pass up). Both computers have x64-based processors.
Computer comparisons:
Laptop: Samsung; AMD A6-4400M APU with Radeon HD Graphics, 2.70 GHz; 4.00 GB RAM, 64-bit OS
Desktop: Homebuilt; AMD Athlon Dual Core Processor 5050e; ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics (with latest driver); 2GB RAM; 32-bit OS
Neither computer has the toolbar in the AutoHide mode.
On some sites with the desktop computer, when I move the mouse pointer toward the left edge of the player, the seek bar retracts and I can't grab it to drag it to the right. I don't know the if laptop also has this problem.
I have my laptop running windows 8, and whenever i boot it up it just shows the "HP" logo and then the spinning dots on the bottom, then it just goes to a black screen with a cursor on it. Now I cant do anything with this, seeing as it is windows 8 I cant boot it into safe mode from startup. I have an HP Envy Laptop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a MSI cx640dx notebook the core i3 version and it came with windows 7 installed on it,I replaced it with windows 8.1 pro with media center and everything was fine,but when I installed the intel graphics drivers (either from windows updates or manually) it started to give me a blank screen on restart so I have to pres the power button to make the system go to sleep and start it again to get my screen back (this happens on every restart) but when I shut down and start normally that doesn't happen

But now it has completed its updating but the screen freezes, I can't touch screen anything and only can lock and unlock the screen. It also cannot shut down, so do I wait for it to run out of battery?
I have gone into the control panel and tried changing the screen brightness but nothing seems to work. I am the system administer so I should be able to set all changes.

I have used the keys, the settings, and even the "Adjust screen brightness" button after clicking on the battery in bottom right of screen. I looked at my drivers and checked if my "Display adapters" needed to be updated, it didn't.

possible ways to adjust one's screen brightness within windows 8 on a laptop?
for some odd reason the laptop only adjusts the brightness when on the battery and it does that intelligent adjustment crap(tried to find a more polite word....failed).
So, a few days ago the battery of my laptop died and when I charged it and power it up again I found that I can't change the brightness of my screen which I was able to few minutes before. I tried fixing it by going onto control panel>hardware and sound>power option, but it didn't work. It's just stuck. What can I do? Is my laptop broken?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just yesterday finished my new computer (16Gb RAM, i5-4470k, GTX 770, Win 8.1, etc.) and I just today realized that I cannot change the screen brightness. The button is grayed out and says "Unavailable" which I know cannot be possible.
Now, i have done my research and people say that the fix is to update your drivers through the Device Manager, and I have tried that to no avail. I have tried all possible combinations of "Display Adapters" and "Monitors" drivers. None work. I have been restarting my computer after every change .
One thing that I might add is that a lot of people remedy this problem by reverting their Intel Integrated drives back to an older version, but I do not have an option to change it's drivers. It shows up nowhere in the Device manager.
My eyes are burning as I am typing this and I would even go for a third-party brightness program (if that even exists).
I have a new computer , HP recline 23 . OS is Windows 8.1 . It came out of the box with Windows 8 , so I had MS store update to 8.1. The screen is set very bright , OK for day use but too bright for night use .
My problem is that I can't adjust the screen brightness. After clicking on the charms menu and clicking on settings , the brightness icon is greyed out . It says windows cannot adjust brightness on this computer. I tried the various locations where the brightness slider may be but all the relevant screens show no brightness slider.
I don't know whether win 8 had the brightness control before upgrading to 8.1 ( I mention this because several people complain that after upgrading to 8.1 , they loss brightness control amd regained it by rolling back the driver )
I tried the update driver option but it says my driver is already updated. The roll back option is greyed out ...
BTW the display adapter shows two adapters : Intel 4600 and Gforce GT730 . How do I check which one is being used?
I have: Turned off adaptive brightness, told it to never dim the screen at any time for any reason under any battery plan, and still, right-on-the-dot, at exactly 1 minute, my screen turns off.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWell I've had my laptop for almost 5 months now, however I did break it and got a screen replacement yesterday. Ever since then my screen seems dim. I've altered all the settings (as explained on other threads) but I still can't get to the centre of the problem. I had no trouble altering my brightness before my screen replacement so I do presume that the screen that the shop fitted wasn't the correct one and therefore a cheap option.

This is the first hick up I've had with it so far, and I noticed it happening today. I noticed my screen was really dim today as I was using it, so naturally, I use the Fn key to turn it up, but nothing happens. Up in the top left of the screen, it shows a little brightness meter going up and down as I turn it up and down, but nothing changes. I went to the power options menu and tried to adjust it there, and alas, nothing happened. I even tried disabling the display driver and restarting it, but that didn't do anything.

Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. *Change User
*Logout
*Energy Saving Mode
*Shut Down
*Restart
And it is defaulted to *Shut Down.I want to get rid of all the options except: *Shut Down and *Restart. And I want to keep *Shut Down as the default option to show up. -Is this possible?
I would also like to move the *Restart option so that it appears above the *Shut Down option (it is currently below.)
The screen brightness is stuck at a low level and I can't change it. Every time I have to uninstall the driver and install an older version.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I leave my computer for an extended period of time, after returning the screen is sometimes blank. I know that everything is still on, the screen just won't come on. I know things are still running in the background because when I restart my computer by pressing the reset button (the only thing that works), when I boot back into Windows a few seconds later and relog into an IRC channel I was in before, my old nick gets ghosted. If my old nick was still in IRC this means my computer was still on and working fine until I hit the reset button - screen being blank was the only issue.
I've tried multiple things, such as hitting the "wake" button on the keyboard. I've checked my power settings carefully, modified them, but still no luck. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to this behavior, it either happens or it doesn't, and the time period it takes for it to happen seems random. Browser session auto-recovery.

I have spoken with windows support... I used to have an option on my taskbar to adjust the screen size. They have no idea what to do. I can go through my computer and set the screen size to 100 % but if I am tapping while on the net it changes dramatically and I don't know how to control the overall size. It seems my upgrade to 8.1 has created more problems
