Got a gigabyte card. Came with an intel core i53470, 3.2ghz, overclocked to 3.6. I have some problems, and everyone is telling me to turn it off.
So I'm in the Gigabyte UEFI DualBIOS Screen, looking at the M.I.T. menu, and it doesn't let me change anything. How do i undo the overclocking?
I created some windows 8 system images(Using the internal system image tool). Now I find restore points more useful, but I would have to turn the system protection on for an external hard drive. The problem is that I don't understand the sophisticated message Using system protection on a drive that contains system image backups will cause other shadow copies to be deleted faster than normal. Does it mean, that under some circumstances my manually created full system images could be deleted to create a restore point? I would like to keep the system images. Also, I hope it doesn't override existing directories on this harddrive, but I don't want to try it out without being sure.

If I overclock the base clock by a further 100MHz, and the memory clock by around 200MHz, will it really increase the TDP by that much? And will a 500W PSU still be ample?
I want to install 16gig of ram on a Z87 Sabertooth Motherboard and have run into a problem. I getdifferent opinions from various sites. I want to install the maximum speed without overclocking, some say 1866mhz and some say 1600mhz. what is correct?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI increased the custom sizing to 500 and now I can't undo it, and I can't do anything at all actually. I do not have a system restore point either, my Windows 8 doesn't let me for some reason... this is a serious glitch I cannot believe there is nothing to prevent this.
I did have a system restore, got to it by holding Shift when selecting restart. I was nervous about using it but it said none of my documents would be erased so I guess it worked out. Microsoft owes me a tablet!!! Seriously though, quit making new products until you can actually build one that works properly.
Bought a new computer with Windows 8 (previous one was vista). I thought I was reasonably proficient with a computer, but Win 8 has me baffled so far. I was trying to do a system backup on a 1TB external hard drive and couldn't find the place to do it. Finally came across system restore. It said I would need at least 16mb. But, what it did was reformat my drive to 32GB.

So here's the problem. I always leave my computer on 24/7, and today I was in a application trying to undo something, but I didn't notice the application was out of focus and I was in fact "undoing" several actions I've made in the last days... Absolute disaster - I accidentally deleted Gigabytes of information and I've no way of getting them back... The worst part is, I don't even know for certain what I've deleted, as I don't exactly recall what I did in the last few days.
My question is, is there a history/log of the undo actions? I've already checked Event Viewer and there is nothing there.
I was playing Battlefield 4 for about 15 minutes, after I was finished I closed the game and my PC just died, as if I got a blue screen without the actual blue screen, fan speed of psu went to max and stayed that way until I restarted it multiple times, none of those times did it actually boot or display anything on the monitor.
Now when I start up my pc it turns on but nothing happens, display doesn't even come on and keyboard and mouse light up and turn off again.
I am currently running with a HP 15.6" Envy Laptop PC, Midnight Black, dv6-7229wm - Walmart.com I have not had problems before. While I was playing Diablo 3, on medium settings, the thing just cut out. The first time, i didn't think anything about it. I turned it back on, and it turned off again twice during the HP boot logo. So i took out the battery, waited a little and started playing Diablo 3 again, and in about half an hour it turns itself off again. Each time it turns off, there is the pop of the audio going out. So, i turned MSI after burner on (I have not over clocked this system, I just have MSI to watch the heat when I was messing around one day)
Anyway, here are the last three temperature logs from MSI afterburner before it turned itself off.

The log isn't coming out how I wanted to, but it was about 95-99 for all of it. I am playing on a table (As level as a table can be on a 40 year old brick floor), with nothing anywhere near the laptop.
How do I find this "feature" in windows 8.1 so I can turn the darn thing off: Prevent Windows From Being Automatically Arranged When Moved To The Edge Of The Screen Total frustrating not being able to have windows on my screen without them all automatically maximizing! View 6 Replies View RelatedI was using Avast, and I suspected it might be causing me certain issues, so I uninstalled it, and presently I use Windows Defender for active protection, and Malwarebytes free edition for scans.
problem is that Defender periodically turns off, and then I get an error message, and I have to turn it back on again.
Problem with Avast turning off USB ports?
After weeks of stable computer use, I tried using Avast once again, but I noticed when I restarted, my USB mouse no longer worked. I moved it to another USB slot and it worked, so I didn't worry about it.
Then today, I noticed that the two front USB slots on my computer weren't reading anything. I remembered this problem started when I started using Avast, so I uninstalled Avast and presto, I regained usage of my USB ports upon reboot.
How to keep AVAST from turning off the ports? I couldn't see anything on google offhand. If not, I may just go back to Windows Defender.
I've upgraded to windows 8.1 a few days ago through a custom install as I was running windows 8 x86 and wanted to switch to x64. I've also just updated the BIOS.
After the upgrade though, my laptop goes into sleep/standby and locks the screen instead of turning off the display as I have it set. So, if I edit any power plan settings to turn off the display after 2 minutes, it will go to sleep after 2 minutes.

If I want to turn the display back on though, I find I'm unable to with the mouse, keyboard, or power button. It's like it is stuck in limbo and I have to restart the PC.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 8 on an xtreemer ultra media center. It's connected to a projector and a touch screen monitor in duplicate screen mode. Sometimes I would like to keep projector off and only use monitor.
Problem is when I turn off the projector. You hear the sound that windows detects a disconnected device. The image changes to a clean desktop (used to be lock screen, but I disabled that). And system becomes unresponsive. No cursor can be found. No metro interface. Microsoft+p is not displaying. Tried everything I can think of.
So when I make an invisible icon, it is fine until I restart my computer then it turns black, of before restart and after.

I've already tried checking any problem with components of my laptop with Dell software and after hours of tests it doesn't found anything wrong, so I hope this is something with software and not a compatibility problem of the new HDD with my laptop at all. Win 8 Pro. After a couple of days uptime my tray icons in the hidden pop up are turning into white squares, which makes them hard to identify. I tried rebuilding the icon cache as found here, Icon Cache - Rebuild - Windows 7 Forums which seemed to solve the problem. But a few days later an icon has turned back into a white box, a bandwidth meter.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI turned on Bitlocker on three new Windows 8.1 laptops and saved the 48-digit recovery keys and associated identifiers, but I forgot to indicate which laptops they are associated with. Is there any way to find the identifiers/recovery keys on my laptops so I can document this? Or do I have to decrypt the laptop drives, turn off Bitlocker, and start all over again to generate new identifiers/recovery keys? My only options under Manage Bitlocker are Suspend protection, Back up your recovery key, and Turn off BitLocker.

The problem is, after a reboot, all of a sudden, the icons lose their image and they just become blank white files, if I right click on a file for example to Run As Administrator or anything else, the whole context menu doesn't appear and Explorer just freezes until I force restart
This happened to me in 8 diff. formats / fresh install I finally gave up and just reverted back to Windows 7. Could it be those start menu replacement apps or perhaps some dodgy windows updates?
I own my MSI laptop since last october. I have random BSOD's, I would say 1-2 per week, and especially when I am playing left fo dead 2 (2-3 per hour), and when I turn the high performance power plan on (5-6 per hour). I have a killer network card, and I heard that this card was the cause of a lot of BSOD. But I do not see the link between l4d2 and the high perf. power plan. I always keep all my drivers up to date. This is very annoying, I alwas leave my laptop on to download games on Origin/Steam, or to do other task and when the BSOD occurs, I am just wasting my time...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a new Win 8.1 computer (Surface Pro 3), and on that computer, as an adiministrator, I turn off Password Protected Sharing for my network (Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced sharing settings -> All networks). Once this is done, the other computers on the LAN have good access to the disks I have shared. However, when my new computer sleeps and wakes up, or even sometimes if I merely close the cover and open it, something has reset the password protected sharing option and turned it back on. The other computers no longer can access the shared data. I have to open up the control panel (as above) and turn password protected sharing off. Again. Many times a day.
How do I get this option to stick the way I set it?
Having a problem with the Regular Maintenance waking the computer (Windows 8 on a Lenovo Q-190) to do its scheduled task as it's supposed to do. Here are the symptoms:
1. If I change the time for Scheduled Maintenance in the Action Center (Change Maintenance Settings), it WILL be reflected properly in the Properties of the Regular Maintenance Task in Task Scheduler.
2. However, if I check the box for "Allow scheduled maintenance to wake up my computer at the scheduled time" in the Action Center (Change Maintenance Settings), it WILL NOT reflect in the Properties of the Regular Maintenance Task in Task Schedular. Specially, I check the box to wake up my computer in the Action Center Maintenance Settings, but the corresponding checkmark is NOT reflected ("Wake the computer to run this task"), in the properties of the actual task in Task Scheduler.
3. I then put the checkmark directly in the Regular Maintenance Task itself ("Wake the computer to run this task"). However, at some point in the future, (not right away; I close and then reopen the task to make sure that it 'sticks'), the checkmark "disappears. Then, the task does not run at night while the computer is asleep, but runs in the morning when I wake the computer for regular use. At that point, the checkmark in the task is gone.
I deleted maintenance tasks in task scheduler (Microsoft>windows>task scheduler) because I didn't want to have automatic maintenance fire up when I'm working, but sadly... some shit got messed up. My computer starts using hdd at 100% if left idle, and then freezes and all kinds of weird crap that I'm almost positive have to do with me deleting maintenance.
which tasks do I need to re-create in task scheduler in order to have auto-maintenance once again. If you could just read to me all the tasks, triggers, and which programs they are running .
