Windows8 Laptop Sends To Password Screen Again And Again?
Mar 10, 2014
I have a Windows 8 Pro Laptop by ASUS. I have been using Windows 8 for like 6 months now and yesterday I shut down the laptop like I do normally and in the morning when I switched it on, it asked me to enter password like it always does.
One thing I noticed is that the lock screen wallpaper was removed and it was blue, it was not showing my Microsoft Account picture. Now when I entered my password it took more time then it normally did and it showed "SIGNING OUT" and returned me back to my lock screen. I'm confused, I have entered the password for like 100 times.
- I can't enter safe mode.
- "Ease of Access" and "Shut Down" buttons on password screen are not working.
*Asus X401U
*AMD Processor
*350GB Hard Disk
*3GB Ram
AND IT HAS NO CD-ROM SO I CAN'T FIX IT THROUGH WINDOWS 8 CD.

I removed the password login screen on my wife's Windows 8 laptop, so the laptop boots up to the Desktop with no login requirement. She no longer has Administrator privileges. Control Panel/User Accounts show a password protected Administrator user and Local Account Password protected Administrator user.
I want to run Chkdsk since her HD has a read sector problem but need full Administrator privileges to do so.
How do I restore the password protected Administrator logins?

I tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.
I have attached a picture of the screen.

When I boot to windows 8 I get a blinking cursor in the top left corner for about 1 second, then I get sent to the BIOS. If I boot to my Linux hard drive however everything works fine.
I figured I would just install a fresh copy of windows, but when I boot to the install disk (I tried both 64 and 32 bit), the windows 8 icon shows up and I get the spinning dots for maybe 10 seconds or so then I just get a blank back lit screen. Is it just coincidence that my drive failed at the same time as both disks failed or is there maybe something hardware related?

My colleague and I are writing the start menu replacer for Win8.
At the moment it's free, open-source and works under ХР, 7 and 8.
What it can do, what it will do, how does it look like, download 7z archive, etc. - welcome to GoogleCode: Power8 - The start menu replacer for Win8 - GoogleCode
P.S. There's a known startup issue if you have C-Media drivers installed. Tomorrrow (21.05.12) there'll be a hotfix for that.

I have an HP Envy and I would like Windows 8.1 to prompt me for a password both after I close (and open) my laptop lid and after waking it from sleep (Which it automatically does after 3 minutes of inactivity), however it only prompts for password after opening the lid (even if only closed for 5 seconds), and not after waking from sleep without a closed lid.
here are my settings:

I have a new laptop with Win8 on it and because of where I take it to I would like to protect it with a password in case it gets stolen. How do I set it up so when I turn it on I need to enter a password to allow it to boot up or get into it once it's booted up?

I have Windows 8 pre-installed on an Acer laptop. I have a specific password that I use on start up. However, I turned off the computer without using a proper shutdown and somehow the password has been changed because the computer will not accept the password I have used from the very beginning.
Unfortunately, although I live in Vancouver BC most of the time, I am currently in Basel, Switzerland until the end of May and I believe any record of my Windows 25 character code is in Vancouver; thus, I doubt I'll be able to restore Windows until I get back there.
I've been reading your forums and I gather that getting into safe mode in the Acer in Windows 8 is not easy. I've tried doing it the way the documentation says to no avail. I am able to get to system settings but do not find any way to bypass the startup password code.
With all the fiddling around I have done, now the cursor arrow doesn't show and I have to use <Tab> to move around the screen to restart. I restart with the <Shift> key down and that gets me into a mode where I can troubleshoot.

Every time i turn on my laptop, my password field is automatically filled with asterisks(*****). Not just few asterisks but the entire password field is covered till no more character is allowed. I have to press and hold backspace key for some time to empty it. The Laptop is Sony Vaio Windows 8 and works just fine apart from this. Yeah, sometimes it automatically fills those asterisks if i click on empty field, for example search field in "my computer". I scanned the Laptop with Avira and Malware Bytes but they found nothing. I even tried "System Restore" but the problem is still there. The Problem appeared suddenly out of nowhere. I didn't install anything and I haven't even connected it to the internet.

I see the write-up on how to make a password reset disk on a USB flash memory stick. But is there a way to make a password reset disk on a CD?
WHAT I DID:
1. Inserted a blank CD in the optical drive.
2. Opened control panel and clicked "User Accounts". But in the left panel there is no option "Create a password reset disk". All I see are:
Control Panel HomeManage your credentialsManage your file encryption certificatesConfigure advanced user profile propertiesChange my environment variables.
Do I HAVE TO insert a USB stick to see the password reset option? (I don't have a spare USB stick to test with)
Running Win 8.0 on a Dell Studio 1537 laptop.

Last night did some browsing and as usual left the laptop running. Long time ago I changed power settings so it doesn't lock after a period of non use or if lid closed. When I woke up found it was in a lock screen. Assumed some Windows update caused it to reboot so tried to log in. To my surprise it doesn't accept the password I have been using since i bought it 6 months ago. It returns a message "Password is incorrect. Try again".
I am 100% sure of the password and that I didn't change it. Have not been in the user settings since I set it up after purchase.

I would like to put a touch screen out in an open lobby area with an program running on it, but i would like to lock the screen so if anyone touches the screen to make changes to the program they would have to enter a password, the screen will be on 24/7.
the program will be updating data continually.
Is this possible on windows 8.1?

Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
The system is set to start the screen saver after 10 minutes, and to display the logon screen on resume.
The power settings are:
Sleep after: Never
Allow hybrid sleep: On
Turn off display after: 20 minutes
Require a password on wakeup: Yes
The system is set to display a screen requesting a PIN rather than a password.
When I went to access the system, I clicked the screen and the prompt for the PIN was displayed as usual. However, when I typed in my PIN using the keypad (Num Lock was on), nothing appeared in the field. I then switched to the password prompt and entered my password. I could see the usual obscuring dots in the field, and there is no doubt that I struck the correct keys, however my password was rejected twice. I rebooted the system and everything was normal.

I have Windows 8 Pro, and a laptop.
My power settings say, while on battery, dim the display at 2min, turn off the monitor at 5min and put the computer to sleep after 15 minutes.
Is there a way to instruct Windows 8 that at the 5min mark, when it turns off my display to conserve power that I can avoid it going to the lock screen and then requiring my password? So, just turn off the display, but don't lock the computer?
I still would like the lock screen image to display if I hit WindowsKey+L. And I still want my computer to lock after it's been asleep (past the 15 minute mark), so the group policy stuff to "Do not display the lock screen" will not accomplish what I want.

I cannot get the touch keyboard or picture password to come up consistently at logon screen. I had to go to services to make the touch-service work with desktop and logon (it was unchecked). Now, at fresh start-up or restart I can get the keyboard by touch but will not get it again if I log off and log back on. And under no conditions do I get the picture password option although I have a picture set up for it.

I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

So, I wanted to download a game from the windows store and had to create a Live/microsoft account. After doning so win 8 made that account the account that I use to sigh-in to windows. Didn't wanted that so I went to user managment and deleted the account from thare. The problem is that I also accidenly deleted my windows user account as well.
After I restarted, I got to the password screen and my windows user was gone, just "other user". I tryed to enter the windows user name and password but nothing. the screen also showed the microsoft acount name but here also the password dident work (probably because a deleted them both from the system...)

I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

I've had this issue since day 1 of me buying this laptop and it is really annoying. If you press f4 it comes up with a "Project to a connected screen" and my computer is changing this option on it's own, it changes to Duplicate as well as Second screen only and it starts to get annoying quickly.
