I have an older laptop TOSHIBA. According to Microsft is compatible with Windows 8 I also managed to install the new OS. But I need to install Windows 8 some older drivers (for example, Windows 7).
View 4 RepliesAfter 3 days of fruitless searching and multiple attempts to install 8.1 I finally found the answer. My hardware does not have the required LAHF/SAHF support nor does it support Prefe6tchW. Why this matters now withe the 8.1 update when it does not matter with 8 is beyond me.

Would I be able to run older programs on Windows 8? I have heard that Windows Pro will accept older programs and Windows 8 will not.
The programs I'm looking at are Paint Shop Pro 9 and an older Nero program. On my current Windows 7 pc, I'm able to run PSP 7, 8, and 9, and a few other oldies but goodies.
I do not like the new versions of the PSP programs, so that's why I've remained with PSP9 and older.
How to get older O/S's like Windows 95, 98 and ME running on VirtualBox on Windows 8, I used to be able to run all Operating Systems when I had my Vista set up. Strangely I can install and run DOS and Win 3.1 but not Win 95, Win 98 and Win ME. Anything from XP works fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 8 Pro Laptop by ASUS. I have been using Windows 8 for like 6 months now and yesterday I shut down the laptop like I do normally and in the morning when I switched it on, it asked me to enter password like it always does.
One thing I noticed is that the lock screen wallpaper was removed and it was blue, it was not showing my Microsoft Account picture. Now when I entered my password it took more time then it normally did and it showed "SIGNING OUT" and returned me back to my lock screen. I'm confused, I have entered the password for like 100 times.
- I can't enter safe mode.
- "Ease of Access" and "Shut Down" buttons on password screen are not working.

P.S. There's a known startup issue if you have C-Media drivers installed. Tomorrrow (21.05.12) there'll be a hotfix for that.

My tech support worked on it for 2 days and gave up said I should backup and do a clean install from start. So I did.
Not yet put any backup files on so only operating system and devices (printer, wireless keyboard/mouse, wireless headset and 3webcams ( One Pluscom and two PCline ) checked device manager and found cameras with yellow exclamation mark and checked properties and saw this webcam.JPG . So my queries is that i have recently installed windows 8.1 and i wanted these original files to be installed but dont know which one to pick from vista drivers or windows 7 drivers? but windows 7 drivers are latest when compare with vista. Or should I download nvidia drivers from nvidia website? and also same goes with realtek audio driver from realtek website?
I am unsure whether I should enable "Automatically get device drivers, apps, and info for new devices" when installing Windows 8 Pro?
What exactly will it do?
If I enable this, will Windows then automatically install software packages/drivers from the manufacturer, like for example the Logitech Setpoint software for their keyboards and mouse and similar software for other devices? I don't want or need that. Or will it behave like in Windows 7?
On my other PC with Windows 7 I see in Windows Update that there are a couple of optional updates, including that Logitech stuff, as well as some driver for a BenQ monitor I have and also nvidia video drivers. This kind of stuff I don't want or need installed automatically as important updates in Windows Update - so I am worried if enabling this automatic driver stuff in Windows 8 is different than Windows 7? Meaning that it will get installed secretly/automatically?
However, it's fine that Windows finds them so I can manually go and check if I want to install any of it.
The key is that the updates are optional in Windows 7, but I have seen a few people complain about Windows 8 installing stuff like video drivers and mouse drivers automatically.
In windows 7 missing drivers were automatically install upon restart,is this missing in win 8.1?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe. It replaces a motherboard that failed. I have moved the Win 7 image over to the new board using a "restore to other hardware" feature in a backup program. It did not work properly. I am not able to get some drivers to install. For various (and sufficient) reasons I really really don't want to do a clean install. When I first booted, it would not even boot until I used Win PE to repair the boot. Various squirrely things are still wrong. Like not being able to see more than one hard drive. Occasional crashes for no obvious reason.
For an SATA controller when I run update driver or running the Intel INF setup program provided by Asus I get a message:
7 series/C216 SATA AHCI controller 1E02 Also This operation requires an interactive windows station.
I have just run the Intel update program and it says it can't identify a device an I need to contact the board manufacturer.
An alternative I am considering is to install a Win 8 update over the Win 7 telling Win 8 to retain my programs, settings, and data. But I am not sure this will get me where I want to go. My major question about that is will the Win 8 installation be clever enough to use all of the driver files from Asus that I have downloaded (and I point it to) rather than installing something like the incorrect ones currently installed?
So figured out my Windows 8 install was corrupt so I decided to do a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
Formatted my drives and proceeded to install Windows 8 successfully. While installing all of my drivers every single one of them installed perfectly fine besides IntelRST.
It seems to time out every damn time. I tried to manually install it via device manager and it times out as well. I even reformatted and re installed Windows 8 still no go.
The crazy thing is when I try to manually install it via device manager it times out but the driver shows the correct date so I'm sort of at a loss right now.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using my Gmail account with the Windows 8 Mail App and it was all working fine until I updated it through the store yesterday (I haven't updated it before so I don't know what version of the app I am now using). Today when I try and access my folders I just getting a message saying 'no messages from the last 2 weeks', meaning I cannot access all those useful emails that I have kept on purpose without using gmail through chrome. I have looked through the settings and cannot find if there is a way to change this - is there? Or can I un-install the update and just go back to using the old version, and if so, how would I do this.

So I switched over to the SATA setup via BIOS in attempt to improve my SSD performance. I knew I had to reinstall on the SSD but my I am not able to read or even format my second HDD that was also in AHCI. Is there any way to (would be awesome if) read, or at least format my drive so I can use it again? I tried disk management and other options within the OS and couldn't format.

OKAY.. so I had Windows 7 64 bit installed for a while, then i decided to make the jump to Windows 8.1 when i found it on sale online.
I downloaded Windows 8.1 64 bit to a USB boot drive, but saved that for later and installed Windows 8.1 from the desktop as an "Upgrade" from my current system.
Then after installing all drivers and setting up my Windows Profile everything was perfect no issues, gaming was awesome, overall the system was great as it should. BUT one day (about 3 weeks after installation) i was playing League of Legends and my screen went black mid game. I reset the computer and from there on out I have been getting the black screen and have been unable to install the Latest and/or previous Nvidia Geforce Drivers(337.50) and every time I've had to Reboot in Safe Mode to uninstall the current drivers and or disable the "Video Adapter" to be able to access the desktop.
1st method: I tried everything from preventing Windows Update to install anything, and then downloading GeForce Drivers going into safe mode with not network access then installing from there but the installer would reach the "restart to install updates" then upon restart the black screens would occur.
2nd Method: Tried to allow windows to install drivers on It's own and it did install the "Officially" drivers 335.23 but they failed to install just as the previous method did.
3rd Method: Removing Re-seating the RAM, and Video Card and checking cables and fans making sure everything was functioning properly. after removing and re-seating the Components I tried methods 1 and 2 a few times with no success.
I installed Windows 8.1 a few days ago and now I am having problem installing and updating driver software for any hardware. I tried downloading drivers with Windows update which gives error code 8007000d while installing after successfull download while other software updates install fine. Using device manager, it gives a error that windows found the driver but had problem installing it.
And finally, I tried to install it directly using executable but couldn't install. For instance, I tried to install AMD Catalyst software and everything in it installed except the drivers, catalyst control center, hydravision and every application software installed but just not the driver software. I also had problem with bluetooth software. All drivers installed fine when I installed the windows 8.1 but after few days, this problem began and now I am not able to install any of it. P.S. I tried all the measures to solve error 8007000d I found at the internet.
Fresh install of Win 8.1 Pro, all patched and everything else is great but I cannot install the NVIDIA drivers or the GeForce Experience software for the GeForce GTX-760 video card. This is what I get...

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy employer is starting to look at Windows 8 for our tablet PCs. Currently we only have 1 model, its the Dell Latitude ST and are using Windows 7 on them. I am trying to create and customize an automated install of Windows 8 for our Latitude ST's.
I've used MDT to capture a Windows 8 Enterprise 32bit image and can image Latitude tablet from thumb drive just fine. In image I copied (not installed) driver files to my WIM file. My unattend.xml file works fine, am not getting any prompts once booting into image on my Latitude ST's.
The problem I am having is Windows Setup is not installing any Latitude device drivers. I copied the device drivers to C:WindowsINFLatitudeST folder and in it is a folder for each device (i.e. Network folder contains all driver files for NIC). I see in the registry that the device path is set to %systemroot%INF so I think I have correct location for parking the driver files. I'm assuming that Windows 8 will search all files/folders in C:WindowsINF for correct INF file. I even tried copying the actual network driver files to C:WindowsINF thinking the system should see it and then install drivers (incase it didn't search for sub folders). To make sure I have Windows 8 supported drives, I downloaded latest driver and still don't work. Everything I try I just cannot get device drivers to install during setup.
Once I am in OS, I can go to device manager, see devices that are unknown, then manually install drivers pointing to the C:WindowsINFLatitudeST folder. Manually works, automated don't.
On Windows 7 Pro 32bit OS, I don't have a problem. The Windows Setup will search C:WindowsINF and find all the correct device drivers for the Latitude ST tablet and install them during setup.
Why cannot I get drivers to install during setup?
When I search for updates with windows update it finds the drivers I want but it gives me an error message whenever I try to install them.
I already tried downloading the latest windows update (when I install it, it says the update was succesful and asks me to restart, but when I search again after restarting the update shows up again and lets me install it again).
I also tried deleting and renaming my software distribution folder and using the windows troubleshooting program.
Overall I'm not really too fussed about most of the things it's trying to install apart from the drivers for the wireless reciever for my xbox controller as it won't work without them. When I try to install the driver files through device manager it gives me this error message
my main reason for mentioning the windows update problem is that I assume the problems are linked as the wireless reciever works perfectly on my laptop. Up to about a week ago it also worked perfectly on this computer using the same usb port that it uses now.
As you can see, on the 19th, it suddenly began to say "NULL DRIVER". I checked my system restore and it tells me that I installed a windows update on that day just before it suddenly stopped working. I tried reverting back to this restore point (before the update) and nothing had changed, the device still would not work.
I was trying to install Windows through a usb on a PC. It had an installation of Windows 8 already and worked flawlessly. I had then tried accessing the BIOS and I turned off Legacy boot. Ever since then, the PC shows no display. It would first give a few beeping sounds (I don't know the exact number), and outputs such as the mouse, keyboard etc had lit up. What I've tried: Making sure nothing is loose (ie wires), clearing any dust, disconnecting everything but the power.From what I've researched, 3 Beeps indicates a ram or motherboard issue. The CPU, GPU, PSU and hard drives seem to be running, however. The light on the motherboard also turns on.
I want to install 16gig of ram on a Z87 Sabertooth Motherboard and have run into a problem. I getdifferent opinions from various sites. I want to install the maximum speed without overclocking, some say 1866mhz and some say 1600mhz. what is correct?
