View 4 RepliesMy brand new XPS 8500 with WIndows 8 has an intermittent blackscreen. Only way to get past it is to power down and power up the PC. Using a Dell 23" monitor. Since machine and monitor are brand new, I will contact Dell tomorrow to return. I don't relish resolving an intermittent problem over the phone with India support. I have searched these forums for blackscreen topics and there are several but no definitive solution.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI installed windows 8 to my machine. it has intel hd graphics. I can install it fine but once i try boot Windows 8 the screen goes black (screen is actually off). I can get it to work by plugging in a HDMI cable into thee hdmi slot and use a monitor. it works perfect like that but my laptop screen stays black. It must be the graphics driver. I tried updating the graphics driver and that didnt work. I then tried installing the driver from the dell site for Windows 7 and that didnt work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell Latitude 100l laptop, with XP installed. I use it for University work. Now I've was able to download from Uni a copy of Windows 8.1, as an ISO image onto a DVD disc.
When i try and boot to the disc, it says "loading files"........and after a while i just get a black screen.
Is this because I cannot load Windows 8.1 onto my Dell laptop?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8.1 Pro about a week ago. Everything seems fine, unless I leave the computer idle for a long time. What happens is I get a black screen, with no cursor, when I return to the computer after leaving it idle overnight. It is not asleep. It is also not frozen. I can tell because I am able to reboot it while it's like this by:
Press: WIN+R
Type: shutdown /r /f [ENTER]
Wait 90 seconds.
The computer reboots just fine when I do this. Could it be a bad display driver perhaps? I have an AMD Radeon HD 7950 and am using the latest display drivers from AMD.
My computer randomly shutdowns when I use it for a while maybe 2hrs or 3, reboots by itselfs and windows cannot boot back, getting a black screen and nothing happens, So i manually turn it off and turn it on again to make it work. Sometimes it doesn't even want to work, black screen after multiple reboots So i need to syster restore it, sometimes that also doesn't work and i need to reset it completely.
At first i thought it was the new drivers i installed for my nvidea geforce gt640, the 331 version. I heard it was making pcs crash like mine does, so i downgraded the driver to 306 and it works for longer but the crash happened once again after a while, and after a windows 8 reset (deleted everything and reinstalled by itself). So this is a fresh Windows 8 i believe but still does crash.
After the crash that happened tonight, i restarted my pc and realised one of my fan in my pc is going extremely fast at random times but not for long. I went closer to hear which one was doing that and it seems to be the fan on my video card, I also touched my card and its very HOTTTTTT close to burning my hand ".".
My pc has been cleaned yesterday by my step dad, had lots of dust, even in the video cards fan, but now is clean and still overheating. Using a 350W PS which i heard is not really good and that i should upgrade really soon.
CPU Temp is fine, all fans are working properly, I believe my video card is broken or my PS not giving it enough power or something?
The auto reboots are annoying, making me have to restore every time and sometimes reset Windows 8. It seems to only happen when i do lots of stuff at once like mixing via audacity and having x2 perfect world clients up, plus radio streaming live.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI only just very recently received this laptop as a gift, but as soon as I started watching movies on my Netflix account I noticed that the screen would briefly go black then return to my program. This happens very often, once every 2 to 5 minutes. And this only happens when I'm trying to watch movies. Browsing and game play is flawless. What could be the issue? It was recommended that I install Windows 8.1 upon setting up my laptop, so I did just that. I didn't play around with Windows 8 beforehand, though, so I don't know if the problem is the operating system or not.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. . why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently built a new computer with Windows 8.1 and have been having some BSOD issues. Initially, I was getting a "Kernel_Security_Check_Failure" BSOD about once every day or two. After running MemTest+ (and confirming my RAM was fine), I started reading around online and began thinking it was a driver issue.
At the time, I did have a Belkin Wireless USB adapter which did not have an official driver for Windows 8.1. I had gotten it to work by installing it in Win 7 compatibility mode. So to try and solve the problem, I uninstalled that driver and software, and went to hard-line ethernet. The BSOD's went away for about two days until:
Yesterday I had another crash. Except this time I didn't get a BSOD, but instead just a hard crash to black. When I rebooted I ran the Driver Verifier (after reading about it online), and then did a restart. When it booted back up, it started saying I had a "driver_verifier_detected_violation" BSOD appear, which was pointing to "nvlddmkm.sys". This looks like be some sort of Nvidia driver. I had to boot in safe mode to get back in and turn off driver verifier.
Just had this new laptop running windows 8 and its an Acer. When I select the photos tile on the screen it goes to another screen which is black with a blue square icon and underneath it tells me that there are no files or folders in this view. There are photos in my picture folder as I just put then in.But if I go to the other method and select the My picture folder the photos are there.

About five days before that I have reinstalled my Mobile Intel 4 series driver and now in Device manager it shows 3 grayed out monitors which were installed when I have reinstalled the Video driver. The monitor driver that Is currently loaded was installed when I installed the OS itself.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure what is going on right now. My computer was fine this morning before I left for work. My wife said it was working fine this morning, and then she left it for a while and when it came back, she was getting blank screens.
When I took a look, it was blank. I did a hard shutdown and after the welcome screen, got a black screen of death. After several reboots, it finally got to the tile screen, but froze there.
So, right now, I'm operating out of safe mode where things seem more normal. Anyway, here are the logs.
So when I make an invisible icon, it is fine until I restart my computer then it turns black, of before restart and after.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNo it's not the problem where I have a black screen after the reboot of the installation of windows 8.1.
I have the upgrade already but when i leave my laptop on after a few hours the screen turns black and it won't respond.
I have to hard reset it every time it does this because the keyboard and mouse wont make the black screen go away.
I tried searching for a solution but all of them were about the black screen after installation.
I'm having WIndows 8 Pro N, I encountered some issue here that Windows will boot into black screen quite sometime.
The moment when I tried to perform a restart or switch on my laptop, I could see the Windows 8 logo and then the screen just turned black. CTRL ALT DEL doesn't work and what I have to do is perform forced shut down.
After I switched it on again, everything just worked fine. The frequency of having the problem is 50%.
Just installed 8.1. When I logged back on, there was only a blank screen with a cursor. I activated task manager and a warning appeared stating, "?CreateRect@Value@DirectUI@@SAPEAV12@HH... could not be located in the dynamic link library C:WindowsSystem32Windows.UI.Immersive...
SFC scannow fixed the issue for awhile then i got force logout then i login the same issue reappear... I dont feel like doing fresh install ...
I loaded Windows 8 x64 about a week ago, it has booted fine every day until this morning. Instead of the loading windows logo its just a black screen that never does anything, I tried safe mode but F8 does nothing. What would cause this? It loaded just fine about 10 times, the only problem I had was with the installation I had to disable the hyper-threading to install the 64-bit version.

This happens at least once a day and most commonly occurs when opening photoshop. My laptop is a Packard bell EasyNote TE69KB.
View 7 Replies View Relatedalways it happens that on the startup of windows 8.1 (and also when it was installed windows 8 before the windows 8.1 upgrade) after the republic of gamers logo and before the appearance of the lock screen, the monitor remains completely black for 5 minutes about (after that appears the lock screen and windows works again well). Usually Windows starts itself in 10 seconds about. During the black screen commands don't works. Can be the use of cc cleaner, that cleaning temporary files, creates this problem? I tried to reinstall the last version of the Nvidia display drivers but nothing changed. I took away all those unuseful programs from the windows startup.
I have a Asus ROG G750JX-CV200H Notebook bought 2/3 weeks ago:
Windows 8.1 home
Core i7 4700HQ
RAM 16GB DDR3
Nvidia GeForce GTX 770M
HDD 750GB 7200rpm
I was casually using my pc and it suddenly shutdown. I tried to restart it, but it's stuck on black screen. Here's the thing there was no windows logo or no bios or no nothing appeared on the screen. It just goes black even if I restart it a hundred times. I am sure the cables of the monitor are fine and I am also sure that there are signals coming from the pc.
P. S. I even ASSUMED that the pc must have switched on and typed password to login and waited enough to get it to sleep mode and then recover from there. But still no luck.
I purchased a Lenovo G400s Touch laptop a couple of weeks back. I am running Windows 8.1 (Windows 8 came pre-installed and hence I don't have a Windows CD) / Intel i5 processor / 4 GB RAM. Video cards: Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Nvidia GeForce 2GB
Since the last two days I am having a problem where when I restart my system it automatically gives me a black screen, nothing happens at all and I have to shut down my laptop by pressing the power button and then start it again.
Refreshing my PC is my last option as I shall lose a lot of apps and other stuff.
I went to the recovery section. Advanced startup. After I clicked on refresh my screen went black..and it's been already 20 minutes and I don't see anything at all..only a black screen..

View 7 Replies View RelatedI built a custom pc recently and I decided to get Windows 8.1. I built the pc and installed Windows 8.1 no problem. Rebooted after install no problem. Updated my graphics card drivers (tried playing minecraft and it said I needed to) and rebooted, no problem. Then, the next day when I turned it on, it booted onto the start screen, before the login, I clicked to continue to login and it went black. Everything but the mouse. It would flash on and off every little while.
I could move the mouse off the screen to the right and bottom, but not the top and left. I rebooted, same thing. One more reboot, and the splash screen is different . It says "Please Wait" on top of the loading circle thing. It says Recovery. I click advanced settings and continue to windows 8.1. It reboots and works fine. Until next time I turn it off and back on.
These are my specs, if needed:
AMD FX-6300 6-Core 3.5 GHz
ASRock 980DE3/U3S3
2x4GB G-Skill Ares DDR-3 1600mhz
Gigabyte Geforce 650 Ti
Windows 8.1 64-bit (obviously)
My Windows 8 just crashed, and now all I have is a black screen. The first error that came up was the "ntoskrnl.exe", and after that my computer would't start. I tried everything, like refreshing and restarting the computer. The last thing that I tried to do was to completely restart the computer; I created a new user and everything, but as I logged in windows 8 wouldn't start, and a black screen would come up. My computer is running fine like the mouse and the "ctrl-delete" are also working.
