Disabling Automatic Driver Installation In Win 8
Jan 17, 2013I have never ran into before with any Windows Operating system, including Windows 7. I am doing some testing on my computer, and I'm trying to do a *CLEAN* install of my video drivers. I uninstall all of the relevant drivers from Programs and Features. After that, I restart my computer. Upon restart, Windows decides it wants to automatically install the default drivers that it comes with.
Fair enough. I go to Device Manager and uninstall the drivers manually, stating that I want to delete those drivers as well. Restart. Windows, again, decides it wants to install the default drivers.
Okay. I go into System Settings, Advanced Settings, and I change the Settings so that Windows no longer looks for drivers via Windows Update. Re-uninstall all drivers (again, specifying that I wish to delete the drivers) and restart. Window STILL persists in installing default drivers. At this point I'm getting desperate, so I go into gpedit.msc and disable automatic installation of devices. Restart. This resolves the issue, but the problem with altering this setting is now I cannot manually install those drivers as well. As soon as I reenable the setting, Windows immediately starts reinstalling the default video drivers.
How to prevent Windows 8 from auto installing video drivers. Is there a setting that I can change that will prevent Windows from automatically searching for what it perceives to be new hardware? If I can change that, then I may be able to manually install my drivers without overlapping old drivers.

Mar 11, 2014I was installing Windows 8 at my desktop pc.Suddenly power cut occured and it caused the compute to shut down.Then when I restarted my pc again a messege appeared saying that the installation has been corrupted and it can't be continued and it doesn't log on.After that when I tried to re-install Windows 8 the setup got stuck at the "setup is starting" window.I waited overnight for it to go and the installation to start.But it doesn't happen.I have tried to re-install several times but the same problen happens again and again.So neither I can log into my computer now nor I can re-install windows.I don't know what to do.

Blank Menu Turn Windows Features On And Off
May 27, 2013Just like the title says, when I'm in the control panel I clicked on the Turn Windows Features on and off. A pop up menu comes up but it's blank. It used to have a list of items with a check box next to them. I searched the internet and can't come up with anything. I waited a while for the menu to pop but no list came up after a half hour.

I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity that I have "add ons" purchased for, when I type to put in the feature unlock key, after a couple days it will no longer be activated. Then when I installed the 8.1 update it will no longer accept the activation key, I can type the key in and it does not hold it. On the same note, I'm running Microsoft Streets and Trips gps software and when I go to update it,it updates like normal but after the update it still says update needed, like it doesn't "hold" any updates or key codes that I install.

Jul 5, 2013I have a Gateway NV52L15U amd a8-based 15" laptop with win 8.it works pretty well except for a few things that I suspect are related, and I suspect all three are due to how 8 is managing the drivers of the devices
- Network performance, in terms of starting up, latching the WIFI AP successfully, and getting online, is unreliable. oddly, it seems that it does not like disabling the Ethernet [CAT5] device, leaving the WIFI enabled. If I leave both enabled, wifi performance seems more stable [gaining and holding the connection]
- When I disable the CAT5 connection using the windows 8 adapter settings pane, the utility will hang, but not consistently. sometimes it hangs until it is forced to stop via taskmanager or restart, but not always. sometimes it merely takes a VERY long time - showing the hated hourglass while it takes as long as 7-8 minutes.
- Shutdowns and/or restarts can take an extremely long time. However, it seems again that if both network adapters are enabled [builtin wifi and builtin Ethernet] the reboot or shutdown seems to go a bit more normally.
- Sometimes the WIFI will not actually connect, as evidenced by IE and/or Chrome being unable to access the network. if I check windows using the taskbar widget, it will show the system "Connected to .." the AP and having "Internet Access". That little utility is mis-reporting. When I DISABLE the WIFI adapter via control panel util, the little taskbar widget may, or may not, still show the WIFI Device as "Connected".... I assume that the adjustment of that feedback mechanism is caught waiting for something, so slow to respond to the disabling of the device
Yes, I have uninstalled via windows both devices AND their drivers, and reinstalled each using fresh, checked driver files from Gateway/Acer. all the issues were there before and after.

Sep 15, 2014I have a HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and I want to install Windows 8 from scratch, I put the installation files on a flash drive from a DVD of Win 8 I had, but when I go to install it, it says the "We couldn't find any drives". I have tried using DiskPart within the CMD as well, but it only finds my flash drive when I run list disk. Also, my drives are completely formatted, and I accidentally wiped the recovery partition. I tried with a USB of Win 8 Pro, and it was fine, showing all of my drives correctly, but that version is linked to another PC, so I can't install it. Also, I booted into a Linux Mint live CD and tried to install it, it sees my hard drive correctly, but the Windows install does not, I can't figure this out, never encountered it before. Is Linux my only option at this point?

Jan 27, 2014Until very recently i was running Windows 8 with a 240 GB Sandisk SSD as a primary and a 2 TB Western Digital Green HDD as a storage. I decided to set up a RAID 1 setup so i purchased a second 2 TB HDD and installed it.
My intent was to run windows 8 off the 240 SSD as a primary and have a RAID 1 setup for my 2TB HDDs.
I learnt that my data configuration was set to AHCI. I decided to do a complete clean install and change the sata configuration in BIOS to RAID.
After successfully creating a RAID volume using my 2TB HDDs i proceeded to install Windows off my primary. I am however having difficulties in that it will not allow me to install windows on either drive.
