I get this error: when I try to clean install to a gpt format hdd. Haven't found setup txt yet.
This will be Windows 8 Pro on an HP Pavilion G7-2243us, 500 gb hitachi hdd, and 4 gb memory.
I have an Asus S200E and I had been messing with linux and trying to install it alongside windows 8.1 with no joy.After a while I gave up but i've had a few issues with my laptop and wanted to either refresh or reset it.
When I try to refresh I get a message saying that the drive is locked and when I try to reset I am told the recovery partition is missing. I guess I must have done something when attempting to install linux that has caused this problem however when I open up the partition manager the recovery partitions are all still there.
I have win 8 pro installed & two HDDs with two partions each , I want to migrate the boot partition to another partition on the second drive .
It would have been easier if i would have just cloned the complete drives but one of the partions on the 2nd drive has data which cannot be deleted .
So I have Drive
1 - Partitions C: ( boot partition ) & D:
Drive 2 - Partitions E: & F:
I want to remove Drive 1 from my PC so i want to copy C: to E: then remove drive 1 & boot from E:
I tried "Easeus todo backup" , did not work, it does not make the copy bootable , to make it bootale the whole drive has to be copied .
I tried making an image of C: using Windows 8 inbuilt backup feature then removed drive 1 , installed Windows 8 on E: then tried restoring the image of C: but i got some error.
My company gave me a Windows 8 Enterprise product key, which I'm trying to use to upgrade a version of Windows I'm running. I visited this link -- Upgrade Windows with only a product key - Microsoft Windows Support, clicked the "Install Windows 8" button, ran the setup file that downloaded, and when prompted for the product key, entered it, only to see the message.
The product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8.
Is there another ISO I should be using? Ultimately I'm trying to get an ISO for use with my VMWare Fusion 6 install running on my Mac (10.9.1). I'm confident the product key given to me by my company is legit, but it obviously isn't a retail product key, probably some kind of corporate key or the equivalent.
When i goto the Windows 8 Store to update to 8.1 I cannot find the Update at all
I am not the only one who cannot and would like to update.
Has the update been removed or simply no longer there?
Or am i doing something wrong? I have Windows 8 Pro 32bit
I have an pre-installed Windows 8 in my notebook. When I first got the PC, I got only C:/ partition so I needed D:/ and for doing this I used EaseUS Partition Manager. This is just a guess but I guess Windows can't find those recover partitions that are in my HDD. I haven't deleted those partitions just created D:/ and here is a screenshot I just take to show you the partitions I have.
I have already tried copying the Install.wim from my BIOS_RVY partition which was about 9GB and I moved it to C:/WinRec and used this command as I saw it from internet : reagentc.exe /setosimage /path C:WinRec /target c:Windows /Index 1 But i still get the error:
"Insert media some files are missing. Your Windows installation or recovery medial will provide these files."
This method didn't worked so any other too. I wonder how can I refresh or some sort of return my notebook to the factory settings from the recovery parts I have.
When I tried to reset my laptop, it read "could not find the files needed". mine is an Acer aspire V5, it didn't came with an installation disc or media, i know it should have a hidden partition for recovery, but i think the system is having trouble with it. i think a malware might have done this, i got malware bytes, I tried norton online scan and eset online scan, but did not detect any. before this, i experienced my firefox browser icon on the taskbar progressing a download but cant see anything on downloads tab, i closed firefox several times, but it continued everytime i opened firefox, and it did finished its download.
Later i noticed explorer.exe is always having an established connection in TCPview, without me opening any apps. so i thought i really need to reset the computer, but this is my problem. I've already run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth restore health on command prompt, but it showed no integrity violation.
My computer crashed(?) and wouldn't go past the setup utility screen. I finally got my Windows 8 installation disc, now my computer is telling my it can't find a media driver.

However, after backing up and reinstalling the OS, I found that when I tried to disable "Launch CSM" in my BIOS, all of my boot options would disappear and my laptop would continually boot into my BIOS. When I re-enabled "Launch CSM", the boot options would reappear - however, it had not included the "Option #1 - Windows Boot Manager" that I had seen in my other installation.

I have a 32-bit version of XP on my system, so when I do an upgrade within the XP OS. It automatically upgrades me to the 32-bit Windows 8. The actual installation went fine, without a hitch actually.
I have a 64-bit version of Vista that I may go ahead and do a clean install of first, just so I can upgrade to the 64-bit of Windows 8. But when I was going through the upgrade program, I never saw the option to create the ISO DVD or Flash drive. The only options were, "Install now, or install from desktop later". I chose "install from Desktop later" and found that all it did was suspend the installation until I clicked the desktop icon, which then just loaded the upgrade without giving me the option to create the DVD or Flash disk. Is there somewhere I can download the ISO so that I can create a disk?
I'm trying to recreate win 8.1 pro system reserved partition on my ssd. Initially I installed windows on my ssd (c: ) and windows created the sysres partition on my unformatted hd (without telling me anything). After some trouble I managed to be able to boot from ssd directly without going through the sysres partition on the hd. Now if possible I'd like to recreate the sysres on the ssd (by disconnecting my hd so that windows has no other options than creating this on the ssd). If a try a system refresh it tells me it would wipe away all my user installed apps.

In the tutorial to install Windows 7 in UEFI, there is not that damn partition recovery, while in the tutorial for Windows 8, we can see it.
When I install Windows 7 (MBR mode), I avoid this partition "recovery" by creating a partition with a name before installation. I install the OS on it and everything is fine, no partition "recovery" But here, since one must delete all partitions, If I create a GPT disk with a partitioning tool before installing, is that it might be appropriate?
My disk situation is as in the attached screenshot. I have two Windows 8 installed on 2 different partitions of the same SSD. Now I would like to remove the first installation, Windows 8 (H: )
The problem is that the Windows 8 (H: ) partition is marked as System, Active so from reading the forum I know there may be some problems with bootmgr... but I can't understand exactly what to do.
I had a Windows 7 laptop until I decided to upgrade it to Windows 8. What I did was create a partition on the Windows 7 side and went through setting up the dual boot process with no problems. Now, after using Windows 8, I would like to expand the partition size on the Windows 8 side since I only created about 30GB and Windows 8 will become my primary. So, what I was wanting to know is how easy or difficult is it to resize he partition without corrupting the OS.The closest I found was from this link Dual Boot Windows 7 and Windows 8 - Delete Windows 7 which discusses how to delete the old Windows 7 partition. Would this work on reducing the Windows 7 partition as well? I am thinking it should? I have backed up both partitions using True Image and there really isn't any valuable data on the laptops, so not concerned about losing anything.

For some reason, it did not create the usual two additional small partitions (system reserved and one called recovery). The recovery options only point to system restore and refresh PC. I'm navigating to <control panel> and then <file history> to access the recovery options. I can not find any restore from system image option anywhere.
Am I missing something, or is it deliberately missing in the Enterprise editions ? If so is there any way I can restore the backup image ?

The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."To fix this i converted the disk to a GPT disk in Disk ManagerNow im getting the Error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. For that reason I have looking for some information, and with CMD commands like "diskpart". I have noticed that I have 8 volumen.

Then googling recommend to use EaseUS Partition, and some many things change. In the beginning, I had the same 3 partions in red and I don't know what happened.
But in diskpart change too, and I only have 4 volume, and it have dissapeared the recovery partition, and I don't know why?

I bought an Asus Vivobook S551LB. Paying around 1150 for it, the specs seemed good and I thought it'd be a fairly quick laptop.
Turns out... It's really slow, and freezes a lot.
It was preinstalled with Windows 8, then I updated to 8.1. I'm fairly new to anything past Windows 7 so, 8 I'm completely lost.
I deleted all the bloatware that came with the laptop but it still freezes, so my last resort is to reinstall windows.
I can't because I updated to Windows 8.1 and when I try to reset it says I'm missing a partition.
My roommate did a thorough wipe of his c drive, then installed 7 then 8.1.1. for some reason he cannot boot in to the win 7 partition. after building up and getting 8.1.1 setup just the way he wants it he doesn't care about the 7 partition any more. i know i can go in delete the 7 partition, stretch 8.1.1 to fill the entire drive, but what i'm not sure of is if the boot info is on 7 or 8.1.1. i do know that once 8.1.1 is the only os i can go into msconfig and delete the win 7 entry. note since both partitions were created using partition wizard there is not 100mb reserved partition, so the boot information is either on 7 or 8.1.1. i also have a copy of Acronis True Image 2014 Premium.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a clean install of windows 8 on my laptop (Elitebook 8770W) from a USB stick with original MS Windows OEM iso. Once I boot from usb stick, at the setup screen I enter the product key and then choose advanced to do a clean install. I then choose my hard disk partition to install windows but I get stuck here with this error:
"Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 partition 1"
I deleted the partition and choose to install on the unallocated space (150GIG) But still get the same error and when I click on the error this is what I get:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's Bios"
In bios I have my disk set as Raid and I also have a m-sata Flash cache. If I change raid to AHCI I will be able then to install windows. But if I turn it back to raid after install I will no longer be able to boot I have to be in raid mode to use my m-sat as cache drive.
So here I am stuck not being able to install windows I even downloaded latest intel rapid storage technology drivers and put them on the usb stick with windows setup files. When i got the error I choose to load driver. But even after that I was getting same error and windows would not install on my HDD.
What's the right way to install in this condition (raid)?
I purchased a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8 Pro preinstalled. It came with 500 GB HDD. I changed the DVD Rom with SSD/HDD tray to use for additional drive. I put an SSD in there and installed Windows 8 on it using a USB Recovery Drive, which I don't have anymore. So my current setup looks like this:
After upgrading to Windows 8.1, the license of some software I'm using got messed up and I couldn't manage fixing it, so the only option I've got left is to reinstall/reset Windows. But since the Recovery partition is on another drive, when I go about creating a Recovery Drive, the option "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" is greyed out. I've got stuff on my HDD, which I can't currently backup so I don't wan't to format that drive. I'm perfectly fine with formatting the SSD, that's what I want.
How can I reinstall/reset my Windows? The only option I see is to install Windows on the Hard Drive (by doing a backup and formatting it first), and then create a usb recovery drive and reinstall again on the SSD, but that's a lot of hassle and I'd need to find an external hard drive for the backup.
I intentionally left the Hard Drive in the original bay (as Disk 0) because of the better protection against falling compared to the added bay in place of the DVD drive.
I built up a new PC featuring a brand new SSD (i.e fully unallocated). Then, I made a clean install of Windows 8.1 pro (64bits) using an ISO DVD. Using Windows disk management tool after the install, I can see that only two partitions have been created: one System partition in NTFS (350MB) and the remaining of the SSD is the C: partition while I was expecting a third one : a recovery partition. Of course, I do not remember a prompt during the install to ask whether I want a recovery parttion or not.
Is it normal ? Is a recovery partition useful knowing I have the install DVD ? If the recovery partition has some advantages, is there a way to create it after the install is completed ?
I just found out that some of space in one of my partition is occupied by NO file after I updated my Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 via MS Store. There is no file hidden in the partition but the computer shows me that 3GB of a partition in my second hard drive are being used.
What I did on my computer before I updated Windows 8 were:
1. Recovered my PC to the factory state
2. Formatted all partitions in both hard drives (the primary one has 3 partitions, not including those Windows hidden partitions, and the second one has 4 partitions).
3. Updated my Windows 8
4. Went through the setup screens
Then I found that 3GB of a partition in the second drive is being used, but there is no file or hidden file there. Do you know what behind this usage???
I want to install Windows 8 Pro onto the second partition of my laptop that already has W7 Pro installed. What are the correct settings for the second partition(simple, active, primary,etc) so that the existing System Reserved partition used by W7 won't get clobbered? Is this even possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI swapped the HDD with a new blank SSD in T530 and booted it with the recovery USB of windows 8. System boots from the USB and gives refresh, reset, and other options. However, when I select reset ( to fresh isntall the OS on the SSD), it fails saying a required partition is missing. What! I'm using a blank SSD, shouldn't the installer present me with options to format and use the drive rather than erring out?
Is there any better way of installing the windows 8 os on a new blank SSD using the recovery USB?
I do have gParted live USB. If nothing works, I will partition the SSD using gParted and try the Windows 8 recovery USB again.
