Right Click Slow Response
May 17, 2013When I try to right click to copy a file, it took around 10 second to load, feel bad! Any way to solve this problem and make it faster?

Cannot Move Or Resize Windows - Drag Mouse - Slow Response
Aug 15, 2013Besides not having any drag and drop features for icons or files, I also cannot move the entire window by clicking and holding the mouse button on the title. I cannot re-size a window either. The close, minimize, and restore down/maximize buttons work. Sometimes when I double click on the title bar the window will restore down/maximize, but not always.
The slider bars only work if they are clicked in (and then only sometimes) and take a second to respond or will not respond at all; I cannot drag them. I cannot highlight any text to copy it; I assume because that is also a drag function.
Frequently, windows will not respond for up to a minute or longer and sometimes I stop them because they have not responded for more than 5 minutes. Mouse clicks frequently take 3 or 4 seconds to respond in all programs. I am not a knowledgeable computer person and do not know if this is caused by Windows 8 or the hardware.
I have tried to restore the system (three times), but there was only one restore point and that failed. I have tried using escape, various other keys, the right mouse button, and restarting. I gave up on restarting after well over 3 hours because there is a queue of 21 updates that have failed before and it was only on update 10. Shutting down and restarting does not work.
I have McAfee and have scanned the computer 3 times and not found anything wrong.

I noticed that the right click was very slow and found out that it was my display drivers that were at fault so I upgraded them also. I then had to reboot and thats where my problems started. Not when I startup everything seems to go okay and I think that it is starting fully but I have a blank screen. I attempted to enter safe mode but was unsuccessful F8, Shift F8 and a combination of both.

Dec 6, 2013the last 3 days I have not been able to shut down my pc, when I press the shutdown/restart button nothing happens. I also get no response from anything if I right click on the start button and try to use any of the options in the menu the device manager, control panel nothing from the right click menu on the start button reacts when I press it. Even when I press power from the right side on the settings menu from the charms, shutdown/restart nothing happens. I have not made any changes to the pc recently. There is nothing in event viewer its just nothing happens the computer keeps working like I never pressed anything...The only way I can shut the PC off is by holding down the power button..

Apr 25, 2013I bought a Sony Vaio E-Series SVE17812BCXB running Windows 8. After the last major windows update that occurred in Feburary '13, the keyboard/mouse stop responding once the fully loaded splash screen is presented (With the time and date, ect).
I know the keyboard and mouse are fully functioning as I can use them when I access the boot menu before the OS is loaded. Also, only the keyboard 'functions' work when the OS is loaded, such as adjusting the brightness of the monitor (fn+F5) and such, but nothing else.
I try to do a system restore and it fails on all available restore points. I try to do a manual repair using a bootable USB drive, and it just loads windows like normal. I'm at a loss on how to get this fixed and as of right now, I purchased an $800 paper-weight.
Maintenance :: Disk Use 100% And Average Response Time Almost 8 Seconds
Jun 27, 2014I have had windows 8.1 for quite some time now and never had any issues with my OS. Until recently, my OS disc use now shows 100% with writing speeds going up to 100mb/sec and average response times of my HD from 4000 to 8000ms...
Nothing has changed on my side and I have it at a repair shop right now. They said hardware is 100% fine and they are running a stress test on my PC but everything looks good so far.

Nov 3, 2013I have performed a clean install of windows 8.1 pro on my desktop with MSDN dreamspark serial and an ISO downloaded from Microsoft site with the serial ... the installation goes OK until I do the first restart, it hangs and the screen freezes at the spinning dots restarting, I left it abot one hour, it never restarts, by pressing the reset button the windows boots then the logo disappear then black screen with no responding, Is that copy is bugged or the windows is not activated.

Windows 8 Very Slow To Access Files - Green Ribbon Of Slow Death
Dec 16, 2012I have just built a new computer and Installed Win8. The motherboard, processor, and system drive are all brand new Intel stuff; the media drive is a new Seagate. Programs get up and running just fine, but I have transferred my files over from my old xp machine, and Win Explorer is very slow to access them.
I'll open a folder, and more often than not the thumbs will not be there; I'll then try to open or preview a file and I'll get the green progress bar over the address bar. This will often take up to a minute or more to run, and if I leave it be then the icons will usually appear and the files will then be accessible. If I try to open or preview a file before it's done things lock up on me.
After navigating away from that folder and allowing some time to pass however, the thumbs dissapear again and I am back to square one. sometimes the thumbs will reappear all on their own. this seems to be an issue whether we're talking large files or small, or folders with 100's of files or as few as 8. The very same files are instantly accessible by the new comp from the original locations on my external USB drive and on my xp machine over the network. Once they are copied to the new machine is when things get bogged down. This seems to be the case both on the system drive and the media drive.
Furthermore, right from the very beginning, I've had icons disappearing and reappearing from my start menu apps page.
I have tried the following to resolve the problem:
- I have optimized the folders in question for both the types of media therein, and back to "General Items" again
- I have disabled indexing both on the drives themselves and in the libraries control panel
- I have run a full system virus scan with Bit Defender
- I have contacted Windows support and they have run a scan that showed Windows itself to be working properly
One thing that occures to me is the problem seems to be with the SATA drives and the SATA drives only, but if there's something wrong with the mother board wouldn't my programs have trouble opening too?

Nov 3, 2013I was trying to configure the WiFi on this laptop when I 'discover' this. You cant configure the network by doing a right click over the net I want to configure. This means that I cant change the password of this WiFi connection and so on.

Win 8.1 Desktop Right Click Takes 15 Seconds?
Oct 17, 2013I upgraded from Win 8 Pro with Media Center to 8.1 Pro with Media Center. Upgrade went smooth (but what's with going completely thru the install BEFORE asking if you accept the new license?)
But now it takes 15 seconds to open the right click menu on the desktop as opposed to probably less than 1/10 of a second before. All other right clicks seem normal. No significant CPU usage during the wait.
If it matters, I'm pretty damn vanilla but I do have Start8 and ModernMix.
Also if its significant, Catalyst Control Panel won't start (I'll reinstall the latest but it was current less than a week ago).
Also my secondary monitor is set to the correct resolution (1920x1080) but its shrunk with a more than half inch black border around it. I'm hoping the Catalyst/driver reinstall fixes this too.

May 4, 2014I have win 8.1 x64 Core installed.The thing is, i want to remove some items from my start screen and right clicking does not bring up any menu (which it used to on my previous win 8.1, this is new installation).
WEe, I deleted some files which were actually looking like shortcuts (had arrow below icons, like shortcuts) in C:Users (and directories in it), thinking that these shortcuts are just useless. And I think this somehow caused the problem. now I want to remove a few thing from my start screen and no option is appearing. Is there any way to manually remove them?
Same thing happens in the "detailed" start screen, the checkmark appears, but no menu to do anything.

Can't Click The Show Desktop Button
