New Laptop - 6 Hours Charging Before Initial Startup?
Sep 24, 2013I bought a new laptop with Windows 8, and I was told at the shop to charge it at least 6 hours before the first boot.
Is it really necessary? And if yes, why?

I just did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro on my 3 years old Asus Laptop.
Everything seems to be working fine, except for the battery indicator and some Asus Fn keys..
The battery cannot be charged, it keeps showing 0% charging even after a few hours.
I tried disabling and re-enabling the Microsoft ACPI-compliant battery driver, but to no avail.
So upon entering desktop from initial startup, all my icons are missing. The loading symbol shows if i move my cursor over the taskbar at the bottom. If I CTRl-ALT-DEL and signout i takes a minute but than i can sign in and it works fine. Im not getting any BSOD and this occurs about 1/3rd of the time. Also resetting does not solve the issue. I couldn't find anything about blank/empty desktop screens via google.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo after using google chrome for about a year and having no problems whatsoever, just today I encountered one where the initial startup takes a very long time about 10-15 minutes, and this is only on initial launch, as when I keep chrome open any new chrome windows I launch load normally which is nearly instantly. I have done every procedure here Google Groups though not separately and it still takes an incredibly long time for chrome to load on initial launch.

I have tried disabling Battery driver from device management, with no luck!
How to stop the battery charging when it is plugged in On my Dell XPS Laptop. Previously in Windows 7 It was easy to to switch between charging when plugged in or not but now with windows 8 I cannot find it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Gateway laptop that's come pre-installed with Windows 8.
I've just gone through the initial setup and before I use it, need to make the initial Windows 8 and system backup incase I need to restore the system should something go wrong.
I want to do this BEFORE anything (I've not even installed any anti-virus yet)...
I just started the Reset process on my laptop about 6 hours ago and now, it is still at 44 percent. How long would you estimate the entire process to take ? I chose the option for making recovrry longer, but didn't know it would take this long..
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have acer aspire v3-571g laptop with windows 8.1 x64 based OS. Processor is Intel Core i5.
To get a faster booting, i selected 2 processor instead of 1 in advanced boot option (msconfig) by mistake and now my laptop become dead slow on booting and startup.
I was scanning my laptop running an AVG Anti-Virus scan last weekend and decided upon my stupid self that I should also download AVG PC Tune-up as well and wanted to repair my driver.
So, I did. Tried and failed.
On the start up of my laptop, the percentage ended up freezing up to 12% two times in a row (it would stay like that for 2 hours tops) and I restarted my laptop two times, only for it to keep on trying to repair my driver.
The stupidest thing that I did was I refreshed my PC, and it ended up erasing all of my precious files, including my drawings, bookmarks on Firefox and a lot of other things that are very dear to me. I had to updated Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 again, thinking that maybe I’ll be able to get my files back somehow.
But it didn’t work.
Now when I open programs that I newly installed, they don’t want to open? And now my laptop is acting very buggy and I’m worried that it might be completely damaged.
All I want is to get all of my files, programs, bookmarks, digital drawings, back. I want my laptop back to the way it used to be before I messed everything up.
My laptop is a Gateway NE56R27u (Windows 8).
Additional information: The weirdest part is that my background stayed the same, Skype pictures stayed (in a hidden file, what the heck?), my drawings managed to stay as well.
Last night chkdsk tried to fix errors on C: on startup after I restarted my laptop. It was taking too long so I went to sleep, but in the morning, I had trouble turning the laptop on. When it did, the Automatic startup repair ran. Now the problem is that my laptop shuts down abruptly while startup repair is running. I'm not really sure if the repair finished running but, it was still saying that it was fixing errors. Everytime I turn it on the same thing happens. I can't use the windows 8 installation ISO in my usb because I can't set it to boot using the usb and I need to change my settings first to access the bios.

I know, if I enable the option, when I do a normal shutdown I can charge, say my mp3 player from my usb 3.0 port.
what I want to know is if I close the lid like I normally do at the end of my day, can I charge my device and not say..wake the computer from what is essentially a hybrid shutdown type sleep mode?
Today I was shutting down my computer because I received the issue of 'plugged in, not charging...' once again. When it was shutting off everything shut down but the power was still on (the blue light on my laptop keyboard was on, it's off when the laptop is off).
I then decided to force-shut down my laptop by holding down the power button. After doing that I tried to turn it back and it refused to go past this screen:

After waiting for a while and returning from a shower it then went to a black screen which only showed my mouse icon. I installed windows 8 about 6 months ago from the official website for a fee; I didn't use a boot disk.
When I connect my DualShock 3 controller to my Windows 8.1 laptop it does not charge. I hear a beep, as in something was connected to the PC, then it seems to charge for a couple of seconds (lights flash on the controller) and then it stops. I am able to charge my phone and tablet so, it's just the DS3. It works fine on my Windows 7 computer, so it's not the controller.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a software on my notebook called Lenovo Energy Management, and there's 2 battery mode available, the one is "Maximum Battery Life" and the other is "Optimized Battery Health" so I choose "Optimized Battery Health" mode, and leaving my notebook while it is charging for about 5 hours.
When I am go back home, I saw that my battery is stay on 60% and it say "Plugged in, not charging". It won't charge the battery higher than 60%, so I guess the battery is limited to 60% from it's full capacity. The question is, is it safe for the battery if I leave the notebook while it is charging for more than 5 hours even the battery capacity is limited?
I just bought an Aloenware 14 with the following specs:
Windows 8.1 Pro
1 tb sata
256 GB ssd
16gb ram
Intel integrated graphics
NVIDIA gforce card
Ubuntu 14.04
While I was testing out the new racing game Assetto Corsa on my computer, I had not noticed that even though my battery was plugged in, it wasn't charging. Then my computer switched off. I reconnected the adapter but then the blue led on the charger went off.
When I take out the adapter, it glows blue, indicating that the charger is ready to charge.
When I plug it in to my laptop, it stops illuminating.
I have Windows 8 pre-installed on an Acer laptop. I have a specific password that I use on start up. However, I turned off the computer without using a proper shutdown and somehow the password has been changed because the computer will not accept the password I have used from the very beginning.
Unfortunately, although I live in Vancouver BC most of the time, I am currently in Basel, Switzerland until the end of May and I believe any record of my Windows 25 character code is in Vancouver; thus, I doubt I'll be able to restore Windows until I get back there.
I've been reading your forums and I gather that getting into safe mode in the Acer in Windows 8 is not easy. I've tried doing it the way the documentation says to no avail. I am able to get to system settings but do not find any way to bypass the startup password code.
With all the fiddling around I have done, now the cursor arrow doesn't show and I have to use <Tab> to move around the screen to restart. I restart with the <Shift> key down and that gets me into a mode where I can troubleshoot.
I will soon be purchasing an Alienware X51, but I am choosing to separately buy a Crucial SSD to install the OS on. I can find videos on YouTube detailing how to physically install the SSD, but exactly how to install the OS on the Crucial SSD upon the initial booting of the computer (without having to first install it on the HDD.)
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy little brother has an 8.1 laptop, and from what I understand, when it prompted him for updates he clicked to restart. Now when the laptop tries to restart he sees his manufacturer logo and the Windows 8 loading circle, but after this the monitor goes black and stays that way. At some point a bluescreen pops up, says something about fixing the PC, goes to 100% after 5 minutes, restarts the PC, and the PC goes back to the manufacturer logo to start the loop again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago, my HP Pavilion g7-2233cl laptop, running Windows 8, started looping at startup. I shot a brief video showing a few loops and posted it on YouTube: [URL] ....
Because of the looping, I am unable to input any commands through my keyboard or mouse once the looping starts. So, for example, I cannot get to Control Panel.
I was, however, able to click on Escape during a startup and run a hardware diagnostic. No hardware problems were found.
Sometimes, after looping for quite a while, the computer freezes up. It stops looping but then won't let me do anything else either.
This problem does NOT seem the same as the "Automatic Repair" issue I have seen described on YouTube. By the way, I also have Windows 8 running on a desktop computer.
My friend put his Lenovo desktop to sleep, and when he woke it up, it was at one of the initial setup screens that you see when you first turn on a new computer, or first install Windows 8 - the screen that asks you to accept the Express Settings or to customize the setup.
We could not get out of it, and restarting the computer brought it right back there. So I accepted the Express Settings, then it asked me to enter the Microsoft account info, or to create one. He had a local account only, so I kept denying that screen and finally somehow I ended up at a screen that said something like "use my existing account" although it showed no indication that there was any account.
It then said it was installing my Apps (there are no Metro Apps in use on this computer, other than what comes with Win 8). This took about 3 or 4 minutes, then it did some more setup, and when it was done it was (surprisingly) back at his desktop screen, with all his files and desktop icons just like they were before.
Win 8 fails to load 2 apps on initial start up. Razr Game Booster and Acronis Scheduler. If I do an immediate Re Start both apps will load correctly. SFC tells me no problems. Event log says Acronis failed to start, nothing listed for Razr app.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my Windows 8 partition this week and reinstalled Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1 beta due to a no sound and unexpected shutdown issue I had been having. All is well now with the new install, I have sound and it is no longer shutting down randomly. However, when the desktop view is first accessed after boot (whether from the desktop tile or by starting "control panel") I get 8 separate instances of Notepad that pop up, each with a dialog box containing a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and proclaiming "Access denied".
All instances of Notepad are blank, and once I dismiss the 8 dialog boxes and close the 8 Notepad windows, I can freely go back and forth between the metro and desktop interfaces without them launching again.
Full disclosure, during the reinstall of Windows 8, the machine still experienced unexpected shutdowns (3 or 4 times) during the early stages of getting updates. Once a certain point was passed in the update process, it has been rock solid, and has run continuously for the past 48 hours. The unexpected shutdowns could have certainly introduced some problems as above, but I don't know where to look.
This is a homebuilt AMD quadcore desktop dual booting Windows 7. No problems whatsoever on the Win 7 side.
I purchased a new dell vostro 5470 computer. During the initial setup is Stuck on the screen of define new wireless network connection and did not respond to anything including attempts to shutdown (from button), I waited until the battery is empty and turned on again, the moment he came directly to Dell's Auto Repair.
It does not allow any system recovery.
My computer takes 2-3 hours to start up !
this problem appeared after I restarted my PC, because I'm always keep my PC open for one week or more..
Then, after I saw like this.. I formatted my PC and it is look like good!
but after I restarted again, before startup, it's always doing => CHECKING FOR ALL DRIVES ERRORS After Windows start , also asking me "from notification area" to Restart my PC to check drives errors..
And now its back again to take 2 hours, without checking.
I have a computer which runs all the time i.e 24x7. Is there any way I can schedule computer to shutdown automatically on Sunday evenings for 3 hours and then restart on it's own?
I want whole shutdown, rest for 3 hours and restart to be automatic.
My computer is stuck on shutting down screen for several hours now and if I do a hard shutdown with the power button and restart it comes on with same screen. I even unplugged for a couple hours but same results. I did no new installs or anything else before this problem and first time this happened. I have anti-virus running all the time for viruses and am very careful about that.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo My apps start but then they just spin for hours and nothing else happens. I have pretty much narrowed it down to norton.
Heres how:
I backed up my pc. I then refreshed it, then installed all windows updates etc, and the apps were working. I installed norton and boom the apps stopped after system restart.
I really need norton so I was wondering how can I fix the settings in norton to work with the apps??
After uninstalling norton the problem keeps happening. I would have to restore to before I had. Norton.
Recently my PC has been getting BSOD while playing games and even once on Boot?

almost all of them happen when i use my hp probook 4520s for a few hours and exactly when i move it even smoothly!
i had hp 3d driveguard but i uninstalled it before last crash and also hp mobile data protection sensor from device manager.
I'm on Windows 8 and want to update to 8.1 but I have tried three times with the same result.
In the store I start the download and it seems to start correctly (just like on two other laptops that I have updated successfully within the last week). However, nothing else happens. The screen says downloading and the thermometer crawls from left to right for a while, indicating that it is, in fact, doing something (I am on a 40/40 line).
After about 30 minutes or so the thermometer start from the left margin Again. No explanation as to why. Same story Again. It sometimes takes 15 minutes before it seems to start allover again, and sometimes considerably more, but the end result is the same: After hours on end it seems to die and nothing happens. The job list indicates that nothing is running.
And Windows 8 does not seem to be influenced by all this. It looks and feels the same.
