Apps Not Loading - Just Spin For Hours
Feb 6, 2013
So My apps start but then they just spin for hours and nothing else happens. I have pretty much narrowed it down to norton.
Heres how:
I backed up my pc. I then refreshed it, then installed all windows updates etc, and the apps were working. I installed norton and boom the apps stopped after system restart.
I really need norton so I was wondering how can I fix the settings in norton to work with the apps??
After uninstalling norton the problem keeps happening. I would have to restore to before I had. Norton.

Ever since skype updated to 6.14, I've been seeing excessive ram use after only a couple hours.
So..I devised a simple test, I closed and then relaunched skype to free the ram and then timed it.. after 3 hours roughly.. heres the ram consumption by skype...
The only things that have business seeing that kind of ram use are games(starwars the old republic can reach a gig and a half's consumption before Windows 8 starts shedding non essential items from the cached memory), flash games, streaming videos, 3d modelling programs, and a few other things I cant think of off the top of my head.
that said..thats grossly excessive use there.
Its not a virus, its not malware or spyware, I've already scanned for that...twice, using extensive scan options.
I cleared my message cache, reset IE as I know skype uses some of those settings, uninstalled and reinstalled skype.. past nuking my current os install I've got nothing left to throw at this.

I am having a strange issue with my Windows 8.1 where every time I click on an app aside from store (games, project spark, Despicable Me etc) it comes up for 3-5 seconds before minimizing with the icons on the desktop. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit Professional, an Nvidia Geforce GT545 with 3GB VRAM, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Core I7 3.2GHZ quad core processor and Intel HD Integrated Audio.

My blue "busy" circle pointer icon no longer spins. It's not really a problem except I suspect that it is a symptom of a deeper problem? I have changed icons, rebooted, changed back, rebooted and still no spinning. I have done sfc and dism / restorehealth, but the circle still wont spin. There is nothing in event viewer that would point to anything related and I haven't changed any settings that would contribute to this.

My computer takes 2-3 hours to start up !
this problem appeared after I restarted my PC, because I'm always keep my PC open for one week or more..
Then, after I saw like this.. I formatted my PC and it is look like good!
but after I restarted again, before startup, it's always doing => CHECKING FOR ALL DRIVES ERRORS After Windows start , also asking me "from notification area" to Restart my PC to check drives errors..
And now its back again to take 2 hours, without checking.

I bought a new laptop with Windows 8, and I was told at the shop to charge it at least 6 hours before the first boot.
Is it really necessary? And if yes, why?

I'm on Windows 8 and want to update to 8.1 but I have tried three times with the same result.
In the store I start the download and it seems to start correctly (just like on two other laptops that I have updated successfully within the last week). However, nothing else happens. The screen says downloading and the thermometer crawls from left to right for a while, indicating that it is, in fact, doing something (I am on a 40/40 line).
After about 30 minutes or so the thermometer start from the left margin Again. No explanation as to why. Same story Again. It sometimes takes 15 minutes before it seems to start allover again, and sometimes considerably more, but the end result is the same: After hours on end it seems to die and nothing happens. The job list indicates that nothing is running.
And Windows 8 does not seem to be influenced by all this. It looks and feels the same.

So a a day ago I woke up, turned on my computer, and was surprised at how long it took to turn on. It took, like, 30 minutes to get to the desktop screen (I have Pokki so it goes to metro for a seconds and then automatically goes to the desktop).
It took its sweet time trying to load steam and I ended up cancelling the load. Nothing loaded except for Launchy, not even the Pokki start button. I was surprised so I turned it on again and it kept going slower each time; I shouldn't have kept restarting, but I was stupid.
Anyways, I left the house and when I got home I restarted it twice before I decided to just let everything load. I was able to close the Steam startup, something I'd been trying to do for some time, but the computer had booted so slowly and the computer had lagged so badly I'd not been able to. I couldn't even open the task manager because when I moved the mouse down to make the taskbar popup it would lag. When I right-clicked it would take a minute or two to open the box and when I clicked on "task manager" it wouldn't open because the program would time out. There would be a Microsoft error pop-up box when it timed out. When I would get it to open it would take a long ass time to load and it crashed a few times.
Anyways, I decided to just let it load, it took 2-3.5 hours to open everything. I opened Advanced System Care Ultimate and ran a virus check and then I went to sleep, when I woke up it said that the check (a full scan) had run for 8 hours and there were no problems according to the program.
Things were still kinda laggy, but the speed of the computer was the same it had been when it as first laggy. So, unusable laggy, but not as bad as it had gotten. Also, it said that Windows 8 hadn't been activated and when I tried to activate it Windows said it couldn't activate it at the time.
The message left (after being there the whole night), but things were still laggy (oh and this is not the first time I have installed Windows 8 so during the night I also left it to delete the old windows.old folders, it would say that it kept finding new items. So, even the deletion of things was sloowwww). I turned on Skype and even though the internet was connected it didn't connect. I turned on the troubleshooter, but it would time-out. I opened Google Chrome and it actually opened! When that happened Skype started to work and, even though things were still laggy, I thought things were getting better. I saw a video.
I left the house, but I left everything on as Advanced System Care Ultimate checked for malware (after having run the antivirus check the previous night). When I got home the internet didn't work, but the computer was almost as fast as it was before (its got 4 years, and it recently fell, but there hadn't been any problems until that day. ACTUALLY, I don't know if this started before or after it fell, it wasn't from a high place, but the loading screen had been lagging for some time).
I ran the troubleshooter and it worked this time, it said that the Diagnostics Policy wasn't working. So, the internet stopped working in the 8-9 hours I was gone. Pokki still hadn't loaded, I went to PC settings and I tried to change the Lock Screen for no reason and it didn't work. I tried changing the account picture and that didn't work either. I'm at a loss, not sure whats happening to my computer, but its almost as fast as it once was.

I have a friend with his broken HDD, ran chkdsk on it , after 120 hours it had gone up to 45% only and I got a bluescreen while playing dota 2 so chkdsk was interupted, when the pc jumped back I could access the HDD but it was super slow and after a restart I couldnt access it anymore, I unplugged the HDD thought it was gone forever and today I got another BSOD while I was on youtube. I got really scared cause I have had tons of trouble with this PC but after I switched out a damaged motherboard it all dissapeared and the PC was finally working 100%.
I deleted the old dumpfiles cause they were from when my motherboard was broken, if you find traces of the old dumpfiles, ignore them cause that problem is solved, its dumpfiles from july (its 2 of them) that are making me scared if I made a big mistake letting chkdsk run for that long on a bad hdd ...

Everything seems to be working fine, except for the battery indicator and some Asus Fn keys..
The battery cannot be charged, it keeps showing 0% charging even after a few hours.
I tried disabling and re-enabling the Microsoft ACPI-compliant battery driver, but to no avail.

I haven't been able to find anything (for example, no issues appear under Device Manager).
Windows 8.1, 64-bit, running two nvidia cards in sli (would not be surprised if the issue is related to either/both graphic cards). I will attach the SF diagnostic file.

I have a ASUS windows 8 system (64-bit) I bought slightly more than a year ago. After 6 months, I got the Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error blue screen (like this image: ) once in 10 days or so. I neglected to address the problem then. Totally regret it! Its frequency slowly started increasing and today I got it almost once every hour.
It does not happen at start-up like I read in some forums but while I am randomly working. The error message appears and the system automatically restarts. I have a major presentation for school coming up in a couple of weeks and would like to fix this at the soonest.
I ran disk check on my C drive and it said there were some problems and I went ahead and requested a repair. Once its complete and I ran the disk check again it still says there are errors and I initiated the repair again. Not sure if its fixed this time. D drive had no problems. I also ran the memory diagnostics tool - no memory errors were found.

I just got a new laptop (Acer Aspire One 756) and keep having an issue with the internet connection not being able to connect after the computer sleeps or hibernates for a few hours. It usually says identifying network... no internet access. I copied and pasted the trouble shooting that I did below. It still works if I restart or the computer sleeps or hibernates for less than an hour or so. The other computer and devices that use this connection work fine when mine isn't working. I can fix this problem by restarting the router and it works fine again.
It's just annoying to have to restart the router a few times a day. It also only does this with my network at home. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter with the most updated driver, power cycling the router and all the devices, changing the network adapter settings to do not turn this device off to save power, and resetting the Winsock like I've seen on other forum posts. None of these has worked so far. The router is a dlink WBR-1310 and it's pretty old. My wireless network adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125.
Issues found:

I have a local network at home with 1 router, 5-6 computers and a few gadgets connected through WiFi.
I have a problem with one of the computers with Windows 8.1, let's call it Computer A. When I boot it, it is connectable from the other computers using its local IP address. But after a few hours it usually disappears from the network, and I'm only able to connect to it using the router's external IP and port forwarding.
By "disappears from the network", I mean that it's still connected to the router and to the internet, but none of the other units on the network is able to connect to it in any way.
Computer A can always connect to the the other computers on the network and to the internet.
The problem is solved if I reboot Computer A, so at the moment I have a scheduled task to reboot it every night. Unfortunately, sometimes it disappears from the local network after only a few hours after boot.
Turning the firewall off on Computer A doesn't work.
Below is the result of ipconfig /all on Computer A:

I was playing Civilizations V on my computer when I wanted to load a savegame. While loading the savegame, Civilizations stopped responding, so I waited a little for the window to respond and come back to its normal state. After waiting for an unusually long time (about 2 or 3 minutes), I decided to whip up the task manager, but I couldn't do that either. After I realized my computer was completely frozen, I pressed the restart button on my computer.
Things went by as usual-the bootup screen and all that good stuff. After the loading screen (with the windows logo and the circling dots) went by normally, the screen blacked out as usual (to transition into the lock screen), but then it stayed like that. I thought there was some trivial, technical error, so I restarted again, but same thing, it was stuck after the loading screen.
The specifications of my gaming computer are:
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GPU
8GB RAM
3.7GHz Processor Speed
I can't exactly check all of the specs because I'm not able to login. If you can tell me how to access the specs from somewhere like the BIOS Screen or use command prompt to find this.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I've done Automatic Repair many times, and have done the chkdsk /f command in the command prompt, but I get a message saying that my disk is write-protected.

I pressed shutdown and install updates. The computer has since been unable to restart. It keeps giving the message that it is repairing the error and going to restart. Which is the message it keeps giving every time it restarts.
I recovered as much as I can by loading Ubuntu through a USB drive. I do not want to send the laptop back to the manufacturer to reinstall Windows because the process is going to take far too long and I really need my laptop.
Is there any way I can either recover the system or format and reinstall Windows? No recovery cd was given or USB produced before the system

I bought a new Toshiba i5 laptop a month ago with Windows 8. The Store worked just fine until about two weeks ago. The apps I have downloaded work but now the store will not load. I get a green screen and the spinning wheel of death (loading). No error message, just constant spinning and the Store logo.
I have ran the app troubleshooter.
I have made sure updates are automatic and up to date.
I have cleared the Store cache.
When I ran the app troubleshooter it took me to a device troubleshooter. It comes up with messages that say:
"hardware changes might not have been detected" "display adapter drivers might be out of date" "windows store configuration might be damaged".
I cannot find anything in my device manager that has the yellow triangle next to it.

When I launch file explorer in Windows 8.1 A Green Bar appears in the address bar and moves from left to right. Depending upon which folder I am in and whether or not I am accessing another disk drive this green bar moves fast or slow. When I am accessing a network drive it moves VERY slow and I have to wait 30 seconds to see the contents of the drive. How do I turn this feature off? Are there other ways of speeding up windows explorer loading?
